Your first Gig......

Mine was a folk band in the White Heart in Bouth whilst on a school drinking outward bound trip when I was almost 16. Whilst it wasn't what I'd been listening to, or buying records of, it certainly hit a chord. The atmosphere of a live event has stuck with me since. Everyone was singing The Wild Rover (with their own words) the day after. Haven't a clue who the Duo or band were. As for mainstream gigs I was too careful to cough up what were still large sums, so didn't go to many, which I regret somewhat. I've not changed that much though, in the fact I still prefer the smaller more personal gigs. I think the first larger gig was Sassafras at the Mecca as some of my mates were going probably about 1975 ish, I can't remember anything remarkable about it though.

Up top bispham early 70’s horrible sickly experience. B and H 11p for ten
All saints Rd early 80’s 15 quid for a quarter
2021 sorted Layton 😛👍
I thought you said cig

ZZ top . Cant believe i was disappointed cos they played a lot of the old blues stuff which I love so much now.

First gig as a 14 year old mod, Small Faces south pier August 1966, when groups did matinees. We paid for afternoon concert hid in the bogs, and emerged to see the evening one as well, loved that band!
501 WOW you just brought back a lovely memory for me of going to the theatre at the end of South Pier to see Freddie and the Dreamers with my mum in the 60s 😁 so technically that must of been my first gig.

That’s a memory to cherish, music is a great part of our past in one way or another.

Pet Shop Boys late 80's at the Winter Gardens. I was around 12/13 at the time.

Always wished I'd gone to the Stone Roses gig at the Empress. I was just that bit too young for it at the time

OMD, November 1981 @ Lancaster University!

40 years later and tomorrow night I am going to see them again at Manchestah Apollo! 😄

Can't wait!
10cc at Lancaster University when I was about 14. I remember all the audience sat on the floor during the whole gig and when anyone stood up to dance they got shouted at to sit down! Thankfully punk followed very soon after.😁

Oasis, Maine Road. Proper gig, Ocean Colour Scene on before. Also a girl pissed in my pocket, very impressed

Shakin Stevens, took my younger brother, as nobody else would. So that doesn’t count.
Soft Cell , my choice, circa 1982 ar Blackpool Winter Gardens , that counts. Emotional and fantastic.

Best concert, Keane , Manchester Arena , emotional and fantastic again , made me cry 👍

Def Leppard , April ‘88 , Hysteria tour, Whitley Bay Ice rink.
Massive crush at the doors to be first in and get to the front….happy days.

Jesus, this board is so full of oldies! I wasn't even born for any of these gigs!

2009, I was 14 and saw My Chemical Romance, supported by Mindless Self Indulgence, at the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena.

NO SHAME 🤣

I used to go to the Queens Cleveleys every Saturday night in the early 60s. Terry and the Trackers were the resident band and they did mainly Chuck Berry numbers. They were probably my first live band.

There was an Irish band called The Wheels. The lead singer looked like Iggy Pop and used to jump on the piano and cavort around on it, frequently falling off onto the stage or into the crowd. Looking back, I think it was part of the act.

Saw The Pretty Things there in 1964. They were memorable! 😄

Andy Fairweather Lowe and his gang, bending and shaking.
‘69? GPO organised it at the Winter Gardens.
Heavily out-numbered by lasses.

Joy Division 27/07/79 at the Imperial Hotel supported by The Glass Torpedoes/Section 25/Final Solution and OMD. ‘She’s lost control’ is the track that stands out in my memory.
Yep there that night got a free badge on entry only 11 at the time

Something really obscure or cool and definitely nothing embarrassing, those are the AVFTT rules for these threads.
Not just for AVFTT. Back in the day of swap shop and Saturday superstore, you’d get all the pop acts of the day saying stevie wonder was their inspiration when you know they were into the Rollers, Brotherhood of Man or whoever.

My eldest tries to claim his first album was by Usher when it (and his first gig) was actually JLS.

Genesis at Lancaster University on 23 February 1972. I was aged just 13 at the time and next doors older brother was working as an electrician on the gig. Sneaked us in for nothing. Fantastic experience, especially with Gabriel
