Bowler

Let's see whether a daft offer comes in.

No idea what his current value is but if we've just paid £500k for a League 2, player, he's got to be worth at least 10 times that.

I reckon £7.5m and we'd sell and use some for team strengthening and others for stuff like the training ground.

We will see

I wouldn't be too surprised if we took the money if an offer north of 1.5m came in. To help finance other stuff, like Brannagan, perhaps. Coukd play out up to deadline day.

ATM that would be suicide Voy as he is our only outlet and almost every time he goes off we are worse generally, the same when he doesn't start.
I agree. But if we are getting interest/offers maybe we will look for alternatives during January. And rejig the front 4 players, cos Keshi is a bigger loss in my opinion and the front 4 hasn't worked very well all season. Needs some surgery.

He's got to be worth more than that surely?
In theory yes but he only signed a 1+1 and may want to go if he's offered a big wage rise.

But the downside is when other teams know you have money in the bank from a sale they then try to screw you.😢

standout? not for me - even on Saturday against supposedly lesser opposition they double up on him which nullifies him and slows the attack down as he tries to beat them both. doesn't track back when he invariably loses the ball leaving Jordan Gabriel/sterling exposed, he's an impact player to bring on off the bench (if we ever used our subs properly)

I don't see Rovers getting him - they'll have a job hanging onto Brereton-Diaz and a few other players due top contracts ending and their wage bill being way over.

From their March 2021 accounts: One alarming figure from Rovers' accounts is their wage to turnover ratio of 200 per cent, an increase of 42% from 2019/20 and has been continually increasing year-on-year. Reading, who were charged by the EFL for breaching Profit & Sustainability rules, posted a wage to turnover ratio of 198 per cent in their latest set of accounts.
Wages and salaries in total rose to £25.4m, an increase from the previous year and offers further insight as to why the club needed to part ways with several senior first-team figures during the summer, including the likes of Lewis Holtby and Corry Evans, as they looked to alleviate pressure on their wage structure. Those subtractions will be published in the next set of accounts leading to March 2022.
Inevitably turnover fell by £3.1m to a grand total of £12.7m in a year where Rovers played all of their Championship matches behind closed doors. Matchday income was down to £764,711 from just over £3m and in a period where there was a greater demand for televised fixtures, Rovers received £0.2m loss from television money in this set of accounts compared to the previous year, coming in at £7.7m.

Without question Bowler is our most skilful player and from that point of view he will be very difficult to replace. He's good at taking the ball in his own half and getting us quickly down to the other end of the pitch and we don't have many others than can do that.
But that's where it all falls down. His decision making is dreadful and whilst we shouldn't necessarily judge him on his defensive qualities he is very weak in the tackle.
The other thing I commented on at the weekend is his frequent moaning. Now that could be frustration with himself but I just get the impression he might not fit in.
All in all if we get offered anything over £500k I'd let him go.

Of course he's our most skilful player.
The amount of criticism Bowler gets on here is ridiculous. That's four managers of higher placed clubs than us now reputedly interested in him yet some on here think they know better than them.
They probably just watch his highlights 😉
Actually I'm sure I will have seen more of Bowler than them.

Bowler is probably our best player when on form. There have been games this season when he has been on another level to the opposition and those include games against Fulham, Bournemouth and Rovers, who are some of the better teams. We'd be mad to sell unless it was a huge offer, anything less than £4M would be false economy.

I’ve said this plenty times his final ball has been pretty poor, however at Huddersfield and against Hull he was much better at this.

I think it would weaken the team if he left however I also wouldn’t say we would be guaranteed relegation if he left. Totally depends on whatever fees are offered, and as he effectively has 18 months left on his contract, these would need to be pretty significant.

I'm amazed there's not more concern about this and that some are so apathetic about him leaving. We're a team that struggles to score goals, and we're talking about losing the second of our only two creative outlets, having already lost the first to injury.

I'd be amazed if we sold him considering the injury crisis we have and the fact that we're trying to consolidate in our first season back in the championship. Between now and season end, Bowler will have given us another 7-8 points at least. If the aforementioned teams are interested, that's a sure sign that he's an effective championship player.

IF we have to sell him, do it in the summer. And even then try and do everything we can to persuade him to stay first.

He’s been a pleasure to watch on many occasions this season.would love it if we could tie him down for another few years but money talks and the clubs mentioned could easily double or even treble his wages.if his head is turned then as touched on above hopefully there’s a bidding war between clubs and we can get a nice sum for him.at least we know it’ll be reinvested back into the team.

We certainly offer more of threat with him in the side and Id like to see him stay at least until we get an offer from an EPL club. He can be frustrating but on his day is unplayable. Might be able to agree a decent wedge and a loan back until the end of the season.

I’d be sad to see Bowler leave, but presently I’m more concerned about Keshi and the fact that Jerry isn’t being played. He is exciting and frustrating, but I don’t see him as a player who defines our team and success. This is borne out by his stats.

His value, who knows, but has to be a minimum of £2m, if other clubs think he’s going to help them to the EPL.

I would describe Josh Bowler as a Championship-level Jack Grealish, he looks classy on the ball, has tons of skill and can take on players with ease.

However, like many Blackpool midfield players his decision making and final ball need to improve if he want to be a top player.

As one of the best players at a Championship club, with potential to improve the going rate must be at least £4m surely??

I've seen pretty much every Blackpool player more than a scout of any other club. So your point is what exactly?
All I said was I'd seen him more than the Managers that are after him. You read something into it.
Now answer my question. If you were a Fulham scout would you recommend Bowler to them?

If Bowler leaves we will drop like a stone , I was looking at the fixtures earlier and we have some massively tough games, 2nd part of the season is gonna be harder and for me the Boro defeat at home was devastating and you don't just shake them results off.

In 26 league games for us, he's scored 1 goal and had 3 assists

he's as equally exciting as he is frustrating.

We are not a rich club but a well run club. The model is to source players like Bowler, improve them and sell them on.
The one thing you can now guarantee is that the money we receive for Bowler will be re-invested

I think this is a difficult one and obviously depends on the offer we get.
Do I think as an individual player we could get someone in who is as skilful and good running at defenders.. No.
Do I think we could get a player in who whilst less individually exciting contributes more to the team... Yeh I actually think so.
I'd want a good slog of dosh though for doing it mid season though

He’s clearly not the finished article at the moment some games he’s brilliant others he’s hit and miss but let’s not forget this is his first season so will only get better with game time.
Any decent championship player of this age in todays market has to be worth £3M minimum but that said Critchley simply has to keep hold of him we simply don’t sell him to one of our rivals at all costs.

And very recently, several on AVFTT gave Josh dogs abuse 🤣 . He's by far our most skillful player and most valuable asset and I really hope he stays and prospers.
He didn’t get dogs abuse - his very obvious areas for improvement were commented on. As Critch later said, Josh had made some adjustments and has since delivered better all-round performance.

Your opinion about him being our most skilful player, others will have a different view. I hope he stays, but value to the club / team is about more than what another club is willing to pay. For me there are others that have greater value.

One goal and 3 assists suggest we will not drop by a stone. The loss of Keshi is massively more significant.

Unless it's 4 million or more then tell them all to get fucked! We are down to 18 players as it is. Lose him and Gretarrson we are down to 16!!!

He can be brilliant and frustrating, but there are few players like him and if he wasn't our player we would be licking our lips at the prospect of signing him.

We need to be getting rid of the deadwood and making sure we get 3 or 4 in, whether they be signed or loans, we have to strengthen, any more injuries and we'll be playing the kids.
