Tenuous connections to footballers

I used to work in a posh menswear store in St.Annes square in Manchester back in the 90's where we got a lot of footballers coming in.....
We got half a dozen celebs/sports/footballers to model in a fashion show we set up every year.....

All I will say is....Man Utd starlet........a bag of Disco biscuits......& a not very happy Sir Alex the next day

Gary McAllister, Michael Dawson and David Marshall used to come in a shop I used to work in. Never saw David Marshall again after I mentioned I was a Blackpool fan 😂

Michael Dawson was one of the nicest blokes you could wish to meet.

Alan Suddick opened his van door and nearly knocked me off my bike, he waved a hand of apology to me.
I used to work with Graeme Souness' cousin.
Stanley Mathews went to see my dad about a problem with his ankle.
I started talking to Tony Green at Preston train station and he invited me to travel to London with him and Stan Mortensen. Stan offered me a big cigar.
Ex girlfriends' cousin played for nob end.

my mate got a lift off Owen Oyston at a mutual friend's wedding about 15 years ago. He did me proud by saying "my mate supports Blackpool and he wants to know when you are going to spend some f***ing money"

Two lads I work with in Poland were both pros - one in the Polish 3rd tier and one in the Italian 3rd tier. But they switched to IT to earn more :)

Right....

I went to school with Sir Jimmy Armfield's son (not the same class though).

Bill Perry lived opposite my grandparents and next door to my Great Auntie

Brief encounters with United players:

I once saw George Best on the other side of the street in Manchester city centre with his arms round two scantily clad young ladies. Early 90s pre camera phones unfortunately. Could've sold that to the tabloids.

I saw Denis Law in Chorlton several times. Back in the 90s.

Walking along Deansgate once I kept pace with Ryan Giggs in his orange Lamborghini, stuck in slow moving traffic.

My eldest son once received a certificate from Nobby Stiles.

My youngest son used to work on the checkouts in Altrincham Sainsburys and served Ander Herrera several times. Said he was a charming fella.

One of my best mates put some built in cupboards at Paul Pogbas house a few years ago. Pogbas Mrs told him that he doesn't want to play for united, he wants to play for Real Madrid. A few years ago! Mate has done similar cupboard installations for Steve MacManamanaman. And a reserve United keeper who played occasionally, forgotten his name, Polish I think? Got it, Tomasz Kuszczak.

I used to work (late 1960s/early 70s) in the amusement arcade which was the old Central Station). Stan Mortys wife Jean worked
in the box office. Morty used to some in quite often. What a great guy he was, always had a joke to tell.
Tony green came in with his leg in plaster once, Tommy Hutch was with him. I signed TGs plaster.

Dave Durie had the caravan next to ours at Beetham. I arranged for Stan Mortensen to open the philatelic exhibition we had organised to celebrate the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977. (In Preston!) One of the Kelly's (can't remember which) was staff doorman at the Majestic in the '60s when I worked there.

My Grandad was friends with John Burridge, "ah, budgie... salt of the earth is budgie" he bloody loved him, met him a few times when I was a kid,
"ah, budgie... now there's a man, bloody budgie" think my grandad was in love with him or something.

I once played golf with Paul Gardner at Stanley Park. He was a down to earth bloke but didn't have many good things to say about Allan Brown, the Blackpool manager at the time.

60 years ago Stanley Matthews gave my dad a £1 to open a Post Office Savings Bank account for me. Received a Refresher (sweet) from Mrs M and a red ball from Stan on a visit to their St Annes Rd house a couple of years later.
Dad did some gardening for a player on Arnold Avenue, might have been Bill Perry

Dave Durie did his teacher training at our school

More tenuously, a friend of mine and her boyfriend used to play Bridge with Peter Suddaby and his wife

Steve Harrison presented me with a runners up medal at the cubs cup final on Bispham Gala field when I was about 10, so around 1975.

Just imagine a footballer today having a caravan at Beetham.

Let alone one with such a pleasurable to say name as Dave Durie

This is possibly the most perfect answer ever.

Andy Gouck's ex wife's dog.

I had to type it out myself just because it was such a satisfying statement.
It’s has to be a winner

The Dog of the ‘Ex’ wife of one of Blackpool’s least famous and most instantly forgettable players made a slight physical contact with his bollocks.

👍 Wonderful

When playing out as a kid Richie Wellens almost ran me over in his BMW whilst I was wearing my BFC shirt with his name on the back. I thought that was great at the time.
You reminded me. I almost got knocked off my bike by Dave Whelen in about 1997. I wasn't so thrilled as you were though.

That post was possibly the reason the internet was invented. It's all downhill from here.

We might as well shut down AVFTT as try as we might, we'll never get as pure and simple quality as

"Andy Gouck's ex wife's dog.... (Etc)"

My old footy team, Rawmarsh Star, was managed for a few games by Richie Barker.

I played 5-a-side against Glyn Hodges, beat his team and finished top scorer in the tournament. And if you knew my normal finishing ability you would be amazed too.
