Whilst in town the other day saw Mamma's was reopening. An institution back in the day! Like old girlfriends they say you should never go back but has anybody been since it reopened?
Just looked and doesn't seem much choice....No, but the menu looks a bit naff.
Yeah but to me basic items missing, there's small and then there's this...Smaller menu usually better quality. Might be worth a try.
Yes, good side in the 80s.Did they used to have a football team? Remember knocking them out of the north west champions cup on our way to becoming the only cheshire team to ever win it….
Are you singing.Going next week prior to Tony Hadley concert. Will report back.
I believe they have moved on but if anyone knows better I would love to know more .Is it the old guard running it? Or have they moved on? I know Nunzio opened his own restaurant but there was also Pierro and Ignacio?
Think it was towards the end of the last century, tried to swop shirts after the game!!Yes, good side in the 80s.
Second best after carriages under the old Yates’s,! same owners of guys court, rollmops, garlic bread with cheese, mussels in white wine and cream sauce, pate before it was common, you couldn’t go wrong with any of thoseI loved Mamma’s back in the day . Best mushrooms in town !
My kids used to like it especially the ice cream, it was a stampede to choose the flavours & bit's on top.Mammas 2 in St Annes was the business
La Fontana was my 'entertaining a lady friend' venue of choice.Never got the fascination with mammas, Ill Casaro was my choice. Think the old guy and his wife at mammas retired. Quite a few to choose from in the 80's 90's, Da vincis, la piazza, la fontana, capri, carriages, queen st one and one on king st, cant remember names but was good for late drinks.
Nooo, really? My kids used to like it especially the ice cream, it was a stampede to choose the flavours & bit's on top.
Nice in there, not been for a year or so, very tasty, thought the portions were on the smaller side though compared to some Italians.La Fontana was my 'entertaining a lady friend' venue of choice.
Didn't they get a massive fine for the food hygiene?Mammas 2 in St Annes was the business
Not been for 20 plus years.Nice in there, not been for a year or so, very tasty, thought the portions were on the smaller side though compared to some Italians.
But great place.
Not sure.Didn't they get a massive fine for the food hygiene?

Me too. Only because it was way cheaper than the others on the streetLa Fontana was my 'entertaining a lady friend' venue of choice.
Loved that place. Open until 4am most nights.Casa romana King St.
Tell me more Shootz, I managed the team as we dominated the local Sunday league in the nineties winning back to back Lancashire Cups and numerous titles locally as well as touring Italy and coming back undefeated against three semi pro Italian teams one of which was on Sky Sports playing Inter Milan not that long ago, we had a top side back then.Did they used to have a football team? I played for IAS in Bollington , think we beat you 4-3 or 5-4 with Peter Band getting a hat trick. He went on to have a great career in Non League with Alty, Hyde and Northwich and is now assistant manager at Macclesfield FC. Managed to bag one myself but to be fair we might of been a little fortunate to advance. We beat Grey Horse? or similar in the final in about 1998 i would say.Tell me more Shootz, I managed the team as we dominated the local Sunday league in the nineties winning back to back Lancashire Cups and numerous titles locally as well as touring Italy and coming back undefeated against three semi pro Italian teams one of which was on Sky Sports playing Inter Milan not that long ago, we had a top side back then.
'Nowt from the right hand side of the menu love...'Me too. Only because it was way cheaper than the others on the street
They were but that dish they came in was a burner .I loved Mamma’s back in the day . Best mushrooms in town !
No he is still around town and living in North Shore last I heard pal.Guilliano original owner was a ref in the Sunday Alliance. Think he's moved back to Italy. The place had a good atmosphere back in the day. Hope they have got rid of the red and white table cloths.
Thanks for the update, I do recall the name of your team, I'll check back in the records we hold to find out a bit more about the game and the year etc. We may well be the only local side who ever entered the Champion of Champions cup as it was mainly contested by Manchester teams and we managed to do very well in it too including a couple of semi final appearances, however having to play a semi final on a Good Friday was a difficult ask as we never managed to put out anything like our best team on the day, and I recall on both occasions our opponents were loaded with good semi pro players who "guested" for them and made the difference against our somewhat weakened team.I played for IAS in Bollington , think we beat you 4-3 or 5-4 with Peter Band getting a hat trick. i can say nobody in my team was semi - pro. Bandy was spotted playing in the final by Mike Mckenzie and went to him at Hyde United. I do know that the team we played in the final were stocked with semi pro players and it was quite a surprise we won , i was especially pleased on a personal level as i bagged the winner in a 3-0 victory..Thanks for the update, I do recall the name of your team, I'll check back in the records we hold to find out a bit more about the game and the year etc. We may well be the only local side who ever entered the Champion of Champions cup as it was mainly contested by Manchester teams and we managed to do very well in it too including a couple of semi final appearances, however having to play a semi final on a Good Friday was a difficult ask as we never managed to put out anything like our best team on the day, and I recall on both occasions our opponents were loaded with good semi pro players who "guested" for them and made the difference against our somewhat weakened team.
