Summer transfer rumours thread.

Glad he's potentially going. Don't get me wrong, he's served us well and I wish him all the very best, but this is about BFC and what's best for us.

This news possibly means Grimmy is going nowhere, which is obviously great and hopefully will give a young keeper the chance to get the No 3 spot. Grimmy, Moore and Spotty kid looks adequate to me.

I assume there would be no fee, just goodwill.

I’d have assumed there would be a fee as he’s under contract and even if he is no.2, he is still an asset to the club.

Like you say, it’s what’s best for the club and to me that doesn’t mean giving up one of our assets for free to a mega rich club like Everton just because it’s a good opportunity for Maxwell.

I imagine he's one of the better paid players at the club, so as a number 2 they might be happy just to get his wages off the books, they could also possibly use that to fund a new contract for Grimy.

The fee could be in goodwill. Simms back on loan perhaps at good rates? Others?

Good point! I just think if Everton want one of our players we should make them pay. £200k for instance is a drop in the ocean to them, but it’s a decent chunk of money for us.

FC, you're writing that as if he's actually gone? Is that the case?
Sorry, not trying to be funny or anything, just from the article it reads as he was due to go, didn't but now with the other Everton backups possibly reaching their end, it's back on.
Fully agree, I'd be happy with Grim/Moore as the main two. Best wishes to Maxi if it does turn out to be the case.

If Max goes, that leaves us with Grimmy as No1 - with more (realistic) bids expected to come in for him, and young Moore as No2.
I haven't seen a lot of Moore - if Grimmy gets injured, is Moore currently good / experienced enough to play regularly in the Championship?
If not Banksy would have to get his gloves & shinpads on 😉
The spine of the team starts with a great keeper & we need him from day 1 of the season.

I was assuming from the tone of posters. however, I'm not going back and changing my posts to satrt with IF. 😉

I think you might need to apologise to Maxi cos there's a good chance he won't leave. 😆

They've retained Begovic so there's only one place left and Lonergan or Joao Virginia might get that. Acc to SeanMc.

Grimshaw is the best keeper we've had since loanee Joe Hart and prior to that although Steve Banks was steady Budgie was only as good as Grimmy now but this boy could go to the top. Saves, speed, agility and distribution in spades.
He will save us 15 pts a season
I agree. He's very good. What I like most about him is the efficiency of his movement. He can make spectacular saves but he never dives further than he needs to or looks in a rush as his anticipation is really, really good. He sees what is going to happen really quickly and the backs himself. In that respect, he reminds me of Southall.

Virtue might be good enough, I don't know, but it's a big fitness gamble, it would seem. Sterling won't be back, I'd be very surprised anyway. I got criticised earlier in the season for saying he's better than Gabriel, very few seemed to rate Sterling then, but I said I'd snap Chelsea's hand off if they suggested a swap. They won't! Good lad though Gabriel, and still improving. Good potential and attitude and energy.

I would like us to go to 433 or a version of it. Re-model our attacking play. And I think the thing we need for that is a central striker who can play in that system. Beesley is the right type but is probably a budget attempt at that. He's mobile, can hold the ball up and win it in the air, and score goals. Can he do it consistently at this level though? He showed it against Brum but that was the softest game of the season. Can we invest in someone, a Gyokeres or Piroe, who both cost around a million? A Sam Surridge home nation bred type maybe?
Let me think. A big, clever home grown striker with skills? 🤔

Yes, with some pace to get in behind, and a striker's instinct for finding the back of the net. 👍

Any ideas?
Give Super Gaz ten to fifteen cans of Red Bull?

Gaz on rocket roller boots?

Gaz with some Stella and a packet of tabs on a string hanging from a stick in front of him?

Maybe one of those. Gaz with a rocket up his arse maybe? 🤣

Was he another Grayson signing? Thank the Lord we got Critch in
31 January 2020, about 2 weeks before Grayson was potted, just over a month before the season ended due to Covid.

The other signings in January 2020 included:
  • Ward;
  • Thorniley;
  • Madine;
  • Maxwell;
  • Husband;
  • Dewsbury-Hall (loan);
so only Howe didn't work out, and some of that could be down to Covid.

For me, Grayson gets a pass for the summer 2019 signings because of the chaotic situation he inherited.

Howe and Nuttall give him a fail from me, the rest are experienced pros

Nutall, I'm inclined to say that Grayson came in on 6 July with the club in chaos and it's the kind of mistake that gets made in the circumstances.

Howe, it wasn't a lot of money, and I think Covid might've been a factor there.

Nuttall is his sons mate, whats covid to do with Howe being poop

I'm not sure what his living arrangements were at the time, but lockdown hit just over a month after he moved up here, so potentially he's stuck on his own in a hotel room for weeks on end and that could well have affected him badly.

Just a possibility.

maybe the London smog put him off his game at Barnet

Jack Tucker, Gillingham- LINKED.

Defender, won YPOTY for them for 3 seasons. been the subject of a rejected c/ship bid previously.

Swansea have joined the Seasiders as an interested party according to the Sun, whilst Yorkshire Live suggest Sheffield Wednesday are also interested in the defender. Hull City have been long-standing admirers of Tucker having had 'big' bids turned down for him in the January transfer window.

Hull have a lot more money to throw around than us I suspect.

Out of contract, although due to his age he still commands a fee, but probably not a very large one.

Quite why we need another CB and where does he fit in with Casey is another question.

Wage offers will vary though.

Are you happy with our current CV options? Is Critch?

Is Tucker seen as a player to sell on at a profit, pay a chunk of the training ground?

Thorniley isn't rated for whatever reason by the manager and is likely to leave imo, and Keogh is going to be 36 next season so it's debatable how much he'll play. That leaves us with Ekpiteta, Husband and Casey. Possibly Connolly and Tharme. Casey and Tharme have virtually no league experience. So Ekpiteta, Husband and Connolly could be the only three with any league experience that are regularly available.

Tucker is 22 and yet already has 116 league appearances to his name, plus three straight YPOTY awards. If we're talking about improving the squad I'd say it makes a lot of sense. Yes, there are other areas of the pitch that need more attention, but that doesn't mean we can't improve the squad in this area while we're at it and if the opportunity arises.

Keogh and Marv are good enough, Thorniley is a capable deputy, we haven't seen enough of Casey to make a decision, Connolly and Husband can cover, and there's also Tharme at Southport.

Maybe if Thorniley wants to move on then we can get a bit of a fee for him, free up his wages and perhaps effectively swap him for Tucker, but otherwise it's not an area where I think we need to strengthen.

My concern about sell on is that we already have Casey, who's presumably in a similar position, so bringing in another could cause problems.

I'd say Keogh won't be a regular starter, neither will Casey, and I think Critch sees Thorniley as expensive back up, and would trade him out to bring a prospect like Tucker in.

And, checking out a few Gills line ups from second half of last season, Tucker played right side of a back 3, LCB, and as a holding midfielder. Sounds very Critch.

Wonder if we re moving towards a three at the back?

To be honest if Thorniley goes in a couple of weeks that’ll leave us with Marv, Casey and Keogh.

That’s one nailed on and two players at opposite ends of the career spectrum. Hmmm doesn’t mean we’re gonna get this lad but the fact we’ve been linked with him and Gibson in the past two weeks suggest there’s more movement at CB than we all originally though at the close of the season.

It doesn't surprise me tbh. We could do with a better regular partner for Marv if we want to progress.

For all we know it may even be progression planning in case Marv leaves. We might get an offer we can't refuse.
