Summer transfer rumours thread.

Not sure about Epo and offers- if one comes in it won't be a mindblowing no brainer, it'll will be modest. At the top of his game he is immense, but there is that lurking mistake in the background, not that always leds to a goal but enough to sow seeds of a buyer.

imo

Husband also got a hamstring injury last home game , not heard how bad that injury was , suspect he may miss the start of pre season training .

It doesn't surprise me tbh. We could do with a better regular partner for Marv if we want to progress.

For all we know it may even be progression planning in case Marv leaves. We might get an offer we can't refuse.
Definitely need two centre backs playing for the majority of the season together.

If I’m honest, I thought that would be Marv and Casey. Casey at the back end of the season reminded me of Marv when he first came in, raw physical potential but very ‘wobbly’. I thought we may groom him through this year with Tharm as a bit of an understudy.

This Gills lad maybe ahead of Casey and you can’t not purse that. But as you’ve mentioned Hull could go on a bit of a spending spree this summer.

Personally I think we’ll look to sell Marvin in 12 months with one year left on his contract I think. Better to get someone young bedded in for a year before that happens.

Anyway I waffle on. Time to watch the PO final.

Wonder if we re moving towards a three at the back?

To be honest if Thorniley goes in a couple of weeks that’ll leave us with Marv, Casey and Keogh.

That’s one nailed on and two players at opposite ends of the career spectrum. Hmmm doesn’t mean we’re gonna get this lad but the fact we’ve been linked with him and Gibson in the past two weeks suggest there’s more movement at CB than we all originally though at the close of the season.
We’ve also got Connolly who’s a better CB than a RB and DM.

I don’t believe that. He’s contracted until 2023 as Bowler is and what are we looking at for Bowler? 4/5 mil? Bowler is only a year older also.
Brennan Johnson is also contracted until 2023 , they are talking in terms of £20 million + for him too, although he may sign a new contract after today’s result. The point I’m making is any player is worth what another club is willing to pay.

Aye I get your point. Just Johnson has probably been the leagues stand out performer, or one of them, this season whereas Bowler and KLP have probably performed comparably and are worth a lot less than 20 million.

Don't forget Tharme who is 6' 4" , but also right sided.

To be honest I though the played his best games for us down the stretch in central midfield.

He can fill in completely for a game or so at CB, but for me he’s perfect as a defensive anchor with a couple of creative players around him.
Also if you discount Keshi, who is more of a forward, was he our highest scoring midfielder?

Did he get two? Think so, Kenny got one. I could see him at the base of a midfield three with two ahead of him in a variety of formations.

To be honest I think we’d need to buy these creative players this summer, as Keshi as much as I like him is far to inconsistent to fire us up the league.

Didn’t quiet realise he was that tall. I’ve said before it’s an interesting one given he’s going to be 23 when the season starts. He basically needs to play for us this year to prove his worth. I don’t think a loan is going to be right for him.

It's when you read posts like this it sinks in how much the club has changed. Long may it continue!

I hear what you're saying but John Stones has that more than Marv does. Marv was our player of the season according to everybody. I can't see a 10m offer but I can imagine 5 or 6m cos there are clubs that routinely spend that on distinctly average players. In our division. If I was Marv I'd do another season with us and then maybe a Prem club will take a chance, if he has a really good season. He's already done well in his first season at this level. He keeps adapting upwards, and he has a great temperament too.

You'd snap 5m. However I can't see more than 1-1.25.

He's better than that. How many CBs were better than him in the Championship last season? Not that many. Tosin had mistakes in him at Fulham. I doubt he'll leave this summer though. Doesn't appear to be on the radar of other clubs, but you never know who might have spotted him. He's nearly 27 though. I think next summer will likely be his moment. If all goes well.

I must admit I thought there was interest in him (Grimmy and Bowler), but as you say unless a no brainer offer comes in he'll stay.

Time will tell.......

I personally can’t see Ekpiteta leaving. He’s absolutely brilliant for us but at 27/28, with little experience of league football (let alone Championshion football) relative to his age and also with a pedigree of non-league football as a semi-pro up until his early 20’s I reckon that will put any club who could afford to make us sell off of making such a bid.
A real shame for Marv no doubt but great for us.

The fact that he has battled to be undoubtably one of the best defenders in the Championship, means there will be a few managers in the Prem who would prefer to have him than a molly coddled and entitled defender who does not realise there is life outside the Prem.

He's 26. I can see him leaving next summer, if he has a solid season.

I think we’ll want £3 million plus. It’s a tiny sum for Premier League clubs but even still I’m not so sure they’ll stump it up because he’s not a ‘name’ nor does he have the ‘pedigree’ - it’s absolute rubbish and I disagree with it whole heartedly and believe if a player is good enough then they’re good enough but football is a funny game and often common sense and good reason goes out of the window. The same clubs will pay millions for a 17 year old who’s never played mens football and quite possibly never will though just in the hope they prove themselves good enough. Yet Marv is without doubt good enough and could step up right away.

The newly promoted teams will want Premier League pedigree, the teams who had a poor season will want proven quality players and will likely look abroad, the top teams will want young gems for the future or top players from European leagues or the best from other PL clubs. I can’t see where Marv fits in.

My biggest worry is a Championship club with money to spend… and all of a sudden Sunderland, Hull and Boro spring to mind.

I wouldn't sell for 3m cos he's worth more than that to us. And another good season would see him get more noticed and push his value up.

Pretty much the same for me, I think I'm right in saying he'll be entering the +1 year then, 27 y/o that's had a hopefully solid season for us, I can see that getting us £3/4 M. If we're in the Championship still that pays for around 1/4 of the playing budget for the following season.

It seems to be the model we're following at the minute.

If Maxi goes we've still got No 1 Grimmy and Moore - plus a younger one too no doubt. Why pay for another? Spend money on areas needed - like centre mid. We can always pull in an emergency loan keeper too, in the unlikely event we need one.

The younger keeper needs to be good enough to play, and is Moore good enough to be no.2 as well?

You can't just bring in an emergency loan just because your named keepers are s***.

We need to bring in better than we have, or there is no point. In Bowlers case it's a little different, a big fee would massively help strengthen our squad with 3 or 4 good signings.

If Moore isn’t good enough then get rid. I’m sure the club aren’t paying him out of the goodness of their hearts.

Grimmy is - and is there's any reason to doubt Moore?

Only that he's 27, has played fewer than 30 league games, and much of his playing experience is non-league.

The club renewed his contract, so they certainly think there's a player there, but for me there's a big difference between being a number 2 keeper and a number 3.

The club actually offered him another 1+1 which he has rejected.

3 of the 25 man squad have to be goalkeepers, its the rules. Maybe the youth GK isnt ready to step up yet

He’s also the tallest of the three, those extra couple of inches make all the difference in a keeper.
My ST is in the South, so I was right behind the ball which was looping into the top corner against Blackburn.
Think SM is around 6 foot 4, and he needed to stretch every inch of it to make an excellent save to earn us 3 points rather than 1.

That's the only game I've seen play in, and he played very well. I think at 27 he's probably looking to be more than a number 2/3. From the little I've seen, he looks a decent keeper.
