A couple of Wolves assessments published earlier this month.
Their under-23 coach really talks him up, while Nuno said he still had some way to go (unsurprising, as he was only 18 when he made his first team debut)….
Corbeanu has the chance to impress Lage in the coming weeks, and there’s no doubt he will catch the eye. A unique ability to change pace without it being noticeable, equally brilliant technique with either foot which makes you question which is the stronger, and a chiselled frame that belies his tender years are just three of Corbeanu’s stand-out features.
Under-23s boss James Collins can name a lot more: “He’s athletic, tall, can head it, can defend, can dribble past people and score, he can shoot, he can pass, he’s both footed, he’s got a bit of everything. Theo can be anything he wants to be. He’s an outstanding prospect.”
Corbeanu, who is capable of playing right across the front line, was the stand-out player in Wolves’ under-23 set-up in 2020/21. First team manager at the time, Nuno Espirito Santo, wasn’t totally taken by the unpredictable forward though.
Speaking after handing Corbeanu his Premier League debut in a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in May 2021, Nuno said: “You can see the way he approaches his duels, he has to become stronger because these are the high standards in the Premier League that we require. The talent is there but it requires a lot of other aspects in his game so he can become a better player.
“He has a good one-v-one offensively, he’s fast, but needs to improve. He’s one of the ones we want to develop and take him further for our future.”
