Theo Corbeanu (Confirmed)

Have you seen much of Thompson?

Had anyone seen Sterling play at LB, before he played at LB?
Nope. Which is why I would play him in his actual position.

I hadn’t seen any of Sterling at left back, but when I did I thought this guy is alright there. Which explains the post you went looking for, Miss Marple. I’ll say someone is good in a different position when I’ve seen them play there, till then you pick players where they play.

It’s really not hard to grasp.

I'd expect any decent full back to be able to fill and "do a job" on the opposite flank if needed, it's not ideal, but it's an option.

You never posted your XI for Saturday BTW, what is it?

I'm not sure he'll be missed quite as much as you think TBH... He was pretty ineffective for a big part of last season and finished the season feigning injury..

There's always a risk that individual players might not work out, just like there's a risk that any player can be injured, which is why it's wise not to have too much stock in any one individual.

Whichever way you look at it, it seems we need to plan for life after Bowler.... I'm pretty sure we can survive and improve without him.... I mean let's face it... We've lost plenty of much better players than Bowler and improved afterwards.
From what I've read on here it was said that Bowler stated he was fit to play at the end of the season but Critchley didn't pick him. Instead he tinkered as per usual, picked some very poor teams and allowed the nobbers to come above us.

Then ‘what was said on here’ would appear to have been wide of the mark.

Well I trust the poster on here who stated it but maybe Bowler was being economical with the truth to him.. Or maybe Critch didn't want to pick him. Who knows?

I suspect people just manufactured a story to fit and then it grew legs.

Fact is we’ll move on and beyond Bowler… ultimately every player is only passing through in any case.

As far as I can see the Club is trying to progress and improve the squad and that will inevitably mean that star players will have to be sold in order that we can develop overall.

Agree with your last two paras but just to be clear I implicitly trust the poster on here who said that he was told by Bowler that he was fit and available to play.

On joining Blackpool, Theo Corbeanu said:

“This is a Club with a lot of history and big ambitions. I’m really excited to get started here. I spoke to Connor Ronan, a team-mate of mine at Wolves, about making this move and he had only good things to say about the Club.

“I’m now looking forward to playing here in front of all the fans, trying to make a name for myself and helping Blackpool get in a good position for the season.”

Head Coach Michael Appleton added:

“We are delighted to have Theo on board. He’s a player that I’ve personally tried to sign a couple of times over the last 18 months or so. He’s got clear quality and he can play on either side, so he gives us options. Theo’s also got aspirations of playing in the World Cup with Canada and doing well with them. He’s very direct, sees a pass and has an eye for goal. We’re all looking forward to working with him.”

Matt Jackson, Wolves’ strategic player marketing manager, says….

“He’s been with Bruno and the first-team throughout the whole of this pre-season and it’s the first time the coaches have seen him. They’ve had a long time to assess him and the contribution that he can make, but they just feel that he needs the challenge of Championship football – the same way that so many have done over recent years.

By making that step up to the Championship, Theo needs to round off the things that he does very well with power and his pace, and his direct quality in terms of crossing and shooting. But he’s also seen the other qualities that are required to be a Wolves player in the formation that Bruno is currently playing, so he can work on those parts of his game as well.

He’s being put into a coaching environment at Blackpool with a manager in Michael Appleton who coveted him during both transfer windows last season while at Lincoln City. He knows Theo’s qualities well, so we believe he can develop very nicely with Blackpool and we’re hoping that he can have success there.”

You aren’t really understanding though.

If Bowler doesn’t agree a new deal then he’s effectively on loan for the season for about £2m or whatever we’ve been offered?

Any money made will be reinvested whereas under Oyston nothing was ever reinvested.

It isn’t anything to do with being stuck in a ‘timewharp’ - it’s having trust that they’ll do the right thing for the club.

I’d say your doubts over the east stand and training ground never coming to fruition because ‘they’re just plans’ is a better example of someone still being stuck in an Oyston ‘timewharp’ and not having that trust.👍
Of course I'm understanding

To me keeping Bowler for a 2 million loan (if you want to call it that) is well worth it considering staying in this league is worth around 7 million

Without Bowler we are pretty impotent as the end of last season proved

As for the training ground it's years away I would rather focus on what happens on the pitch

But we have a different head coach this season and he’s come out and said he wants to play a different style of play.

Last season we didn’t have anyone else other than Bowler who looked remotely threatening, hopefully that changes with the players we’ve brought (and bringing) in.

£2m goes a long way to improving a squad like ours, if we could get that for him and being in this fella from wolves, Rogers (permanent has been mentioned) and Brannagan, I’d be fairly pleased with that.

If Bowler leaves and no money is spent, I’d start to worry.

Saw him only yesterday at Wolves open training session - certainly a nice guy with my son for photo etc. Don’t know much about him playing wise - though we’ve just given him new 4 year contract. Looked decent for MK Dons on TV - step up in Championship - hopefully he will prosper.

Why do you think Appleton wants a different formation? We've started all the pre season games with a front 3 of which two were wide men.i And in the big games against Rangers and Everon he's done the same with Madine starting down the middle. Pretty much just like Critch did for most of last season. The only noticeable difference between Critch last and Appleton this is that the latter has gone with two central attacking midfielders as opposed to the former who went with just the one.

To be fair ‘formation’ was the wrong word, tactics is probably better.

What I mean is more playing it on the floor most the time and being aggressive with our press. I think our press under Critchley in League One was fairly decent but he seemed to abandon that last season but still got results. Last season it was either pass it around the back for a bit then lump it up to Madine and hope it bounces off him to someone in tangerine.

The only time we looked threatening with the ball on the deck was when bowler had it to run with.

Hoping with the signings of Fiorini and HOPEFULLY Brannagan, we will get the ball down and play a little more between the lines.

You'd hope with this guy, and Brannigan to follow, we won't be as reliant on Bowler creating something out of nothing to give us a spark.
Which may then allow Bowler more time and space. We were crap at times last season even with Bowler.
What is worrying me is that, pre season or not, I haven't seen much more so far that makes me think we're gonna be any more threatening in our opponents half.

yep agree, hopefully when attacking we are able to keep the ball on the deck a bit more but thats about pass and move. However as long as there is a static Madinte in the team- and i like Madine - then not only is there the temptation to go long but also the lack of options to play it in and around the edge of the box. In other words if we have a wide two players and two central attacking midfield players then the no 9 needs to be mobile and makug runs not only behind the defence but accross the box too.

Yeah, I think with the attacking signings he’s looking at that he’s wanting to play a fluid front 3 that can possibly interchange.

I was thinking the other day, when was the last time we scored a goal where we played a through ball and our striker ran off the shoulder through 1 on 1?

I'm sure you're not talking about me because you don't believe or agree with anything I say.
However I spoke to Josh Bowler on 5 May and he told me he was available to play against Peterborough.
I can't speak for the 5/6 games prior to that.
PS.
I've got a selfie with him if you want me to print and sign it for you. A small contribution to charity will be sufficient. 😉
PPS
I'll throw in the one with Quitch for free 😂

Oh ye of little faith. Of course I was talking about you and why I paid you the compliment of saying I trusted you implicitly.

To those commenting on his goal involvements, he played LWB for MK regularly.
Are you sure? I had a quick look through his stats on FotMob. He certainly started his spell there in a front 3 but very quickly lost his place in the starting line-up however he was brought on most games on about 70 minutes.
