That was obliviously our poorer half, hopefully we'll improve in the second half, although that said, WBA have been playing a lot of crab football, plenty of huffing and puffing but not testing us.

But we looked like a side who could pass the ball, create chances, tonight were just pushed back, no idea what to do when we get it, long punts up field for them to go again mostly.
 
Maybe they can wipe the butter off their boots :)

A few have said we're missing patino, agreed obviously, he's one of the better players in the division.
I think this game is crying out for Bridcutt too, just need his steel and nouse in midfield.
Goodness knows what he can do to change this up at half time, midfield has been poor.

Different performance completely Sat first half.
 
Charlie not playing seems to mean CJ doesn’t either. No one seems capable of playing the balls he needs to run onto. *

* only saying that in the hope that Ecky plays a 50 yard, cross field, wonder pass to make me eat my words.
 
Flat first half with the ball not sticking in midfield. Too many wayward diagonal passes from the back (Marvin 2/3) however we are still in the game and haven’t really struggled. Limited regarding subs but surely Lavery must be chomping at the bit and can get stuck in and pick up a few lose balls to win us back possession
 
It’s a plan, look like we’re playing for a draw, lull them into a false sense of superiority, they come out hung ho in the second half and we take them, balloon burst and we stuff them. Utmp.
 
Yep midfield struggling to get on the ball, but we are well outnumbered in there, MA will make some tactical tweaks at HF and hopefully get us more of the ball higher up the pitch, but for me not bad at all, we are well organised and doing our jobs.
 
Midfield is the issue as everyone knows.
Maybe MA can tweak it tactically with what’s on the pitch now and get a better second half performance?

Failing that as many have said, we either switch to 4-2-4 or stick a winger on in that 8 role that Wright and Carey seem to have vacated tonight.

Tactically. Best option would have been a second defensive midfielder and block the massive gaps in midfield but our cupboard is empty.

No it’s not been pretty, but in key areas we are at bare bones. We will have our time in the game, and to me it looked a planned approach to get behind the ball and frustrate them. MA will be pleased it’s going to plan.
 
Why isn't Corbeneau playing? He's a far better option than Wright who just looks like a headless chicken (hopefully that should make him score at least)
 
Wright needs to come off for the restart. He's had a chance to make his mark on the team and has blown it. But there isn't a midfielder on the bench. What's up with Grant Ward?

Maybe Thompson at RB - no idea if he can play there (usually backs can switch) - and move Connolly to midfield. Desperate measures for desperate times.
 
A bit of a nondescript first half from both teams.

Plenty of improvements we can make, let's see how we go about the second half.
 
Thought we did quite well, expected a tough game new manager good players, restricted them to nowt really. We do however have to transform into an attacking side 2nd half, once Appy has worked them out
 
As a minimum we need to keep a clean sheet then hope for a break.
I'd swap CJ for Lavery but I don't think we can afford to take Madine off because we need his defensive qualities.
 
Very poor first half from us, and West Brom aren't much better. But we're making them look like play off contenders (well almost).

CJ badly missing Charlie's passes to run on to. He's getting the ball to feet and of course it's bouncing off him and back to one of their 5 midfielders. Wright and Carey not getting into the game because the ball is going over their heads to their keeper or CB's. Wright will continue because we haven't a cm replacement, but he looks way off the pace.

Lavery for CJ please. Shayne gives them less time on the ball. We need a better press, they've got so much time on the ball.

Husband our stand out player of the half, well played fella (could have been 1 or 2 down but for his clearances virtually from under his own crossbar.

We’re being overrun in midfield so need to tweak the formation and try and get Carey into the game so he can make some surging runs. Wright looks completely lost at the moment and chasing shadows, I’m sure Appy will sort it but we need to get more possession in midfield.
 
not a great half of football, Brom look good coming forward up to the final third, we are sitting way too deep for my liking, but we look fairly solid. No ones really got into the game yet, but Carey has looked lively a few times, too many wayward long balls bypassing the midfield though. wouldn't change anything yet, give it ten minutes, need to stop their midfield from starting stuff from deeper positions.
 
It does seem a bit unprofessional to have not travelled with cover. We are clearly way off in midfield, assume Ward has been alf at home to train but we could really use him here if he's anything like. Think in the circumstances we need for find a way to bring in Lavery for Wright - who looks totally lost - and maybe Corbs for Hamilton after 65 or so. 442ish

Corbeanu isnt a swap for Wright. He has some qualities but he's a wide player.
Lavery is coming on.
 
Not enough energy tonight, we've been poor in possession and they've found it way too easy to get at our defence. A step too far for Wright who struggled to get into the game. Hopefully Lavery can inject a bit more pace.
 
Baggies have packed midfield so are having most of the ball but having only 1 up front they are struggling to create as they are unable to get it forward quick enough. They have plenty of decent players but I can see why they are struggling as they haven't got enough up front.

We just need to hang on in and try and nick one. We ain't going to out football them.
 
Who are these bozos on the commentary. Makes Chizzy & Brett look world class. We were just taking it easy in the first half. Come on up it now. I feel if we can score the crowd will get on their backs.
