West Brom v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 01.11.22

Not sure we deserved to lose that, but we certainly didn’t deserve to win it. Not with zero shots on target.
Seemed a bit flat from the off. Not our usual high tempo.
That blöödy WBA hoodoo continues. Another late goal conceded in this fixture.
Not much point Maxwell complaining about the legitimacy of their goal without the benefit of VAR. He needs to be stronger. Clatter the WBA player of you have to, but don’t let it dribble over the line.
Need to regain their focus for the weekend.
I thought we deserved to lose by more than 1,absolutely awful performance

Rubbish. Good players still need good players around them. What hope have you got when you’ve got a kid running around chasing shadows in the first half. Second half we just continued to get outnumbered in midfield. Dougall isn’t that good to make a difference on his own but he shouldn’t be singled out for it.
international players stand out Dougall doesn't only for the wrong reasons.

What the fuck is up with this team??? Same team bar patino played like Brazil on Saturday, tonight they play like Bromsgrove. Why??? Is it fitness, is it mental, is it the manager? Gutted about tonight, they were there for the taking and I expected us to tear into them from the off. Instead we are just passive and weak. Arghhhhhhhhh
A weeks a long time in football

Or a more sinister view would be our poor recruitment policy. How much did we pay for Wright? A club like ours can’t afford to waste that amount of money
Not sure how much we paid but he's only 22 and played about 30 first team games.

Our policy is to bring young talent in, give them a platform to grow, train, play, and then hopefully sell for a profit (whilst maintaining Championship status). So far so good, but we won't get every signing right, who does? I know we love a scapegoat on here but 22yr olds learning on the job aren't the ones to point the finger at. We should probably look at the internationals like Dougall and the sick note Stewart stealing a Championship living.

I think you would at least hope to see potential. I just can’t see it. Hope I’m wrong.

Could have bought Ronan for less.
Just saying….

Yes... but life is a roller coaster, you've just got to ride it.

He certainly won’t have enjoyed being brought off at half time and hopefully takes his chance next time. He did however hit a perfect cross in the box today so there’s talent in there. Certainly has a point to prove

WBA started as badly as us but eventually the penny dropped and they gained confidence from our incompetence and started to realise that we were there for the taking. It`s hard to imagine how we could play worse than that. We did nothing whatsoever in a constructive positive way. Just terrible ,embarrassing.

I don't blame Appleton for not changing the side as we have been doing well but I think now we know for certain that we cannot play a tough game at the weekend and then play the same side mid-week. Both tonight and against Hull they lacked any intensity and just looked very flat.

That’s what happens when the board doesn’t back the manager. Play same team all the time team gets knackered lose their edge. Not Appletons or players fault.

For every Coventry there’s a West Brom. We need more consistency.
There’s no outstanding teams in the Championship but the ones at the top have found a way to be more consistent, more often.

You could understand one or two having off games now and again, however we occasionally seem to suffer from a bout of collective apathy. It’s very odd.

The problem with the inconsistency is if we find ourselves being consistently bad we are in substantial trouble. We don't have the quality to be consistently good and Appleton clearly can't get consistent results. I'll let last night slide with injuries etc etc.

I agree there are no outstanding teams this season Blackburn are brilliant at home but have lost sobmany away games. Would like us to put an unbeaten run together

Very poor performance.

The better team, on the night, won, and when I say better, they were rubbish aswell.

The only good thing that came from last night was, I wasn't unfortunate enough to travel all that way to watch them, I was in front of my computer cursing at the poor performance, but warm and dry. I wonder how many of those who bet, lost their money?

Probably would have to go back to the Colin Hendry days where Bournemouth beat us 5-0 at Bloomfield. The game where Brian Stock ran the show.
Been so impressed with CJ In recent weeks. Seemed to have improved a lot. Just didn’t seem up to it today
He was clearly up for it. Simply nobody played to his strengths. He had nothing to run onto all night. If you cannot play to his strengths you might as well take him off.

Just watched hi-lights (which doesn’t last long!!) and looks a poor game but West Brom looked more up for it. We looked flat footed so let’s hope for much better on Saturday

Yes, we are 3 points above Wigan in 22nd place, having played a game more. And Wigan play Stoke (21st place) tonight.
What are you on about?
I'm on about you thinking it'll take a couple of results.
In fact it could take only one to have us same points as Wigan.
Make no mistake the Boro and Wigan matches are massive even at this early stage of the season and imo need 6 points out of our remaining 3 games before the WC

Patino, Fiorini, Bridcut, Stewart, Ward, Virtue, Andersen......perm any two of those and we would have played better. Corboran is a good coach and I think if they get Daryl Dike back fit they are going to climb up the table. There is something about mid-week games either home or away that we lack energy and we were a shadow of the team that played so well at Coventry. There are at least two players Connolly and Madine who are carrying injuries and in a way hope some of the team may have picked up the virus because the lack of energy and movement was alarming.

I wouldnt have been any more inspired by Ward and Virtue playing

Well, today we are 16th and still 3 points above 22nd place with a better GD. So I was right, it will take another 2 matches to reverse those positions. Let’s hope not, of course. I agree, our next few matches before the WC are crucial.
