How would you use him?We have the joint 2nd top scorer in the division being used all wrong .
As has been said before the core of the squad is good the way they are being played isn't.
You can't buy confidence, our squad has had it drained out of them.
The games he's been doing well in and scored in he's not been sat as deep and him and madine as a partnership in a 4-4-2 look good .How would you use him?
He's already surpassed last year's total before Xmas, not sure you could argue he's being used incorrectly.......he's capable of playing other roles, absolutely but given his numbers so far it's be tough to say yes being used incorrectly, and he has looked full of confidence playing in that roll, his goal against Watford and his 2 at Sheff U being good examples, he looked devoid of confidence last year in a system that nullified his attributes but i don't think that's the case this season.
For me, Yates is being played too much as a winger. He's staying out wide too much which although it helps the team defensively doesn't do much for us as an attacking force. Think he's given that role because of his energy levels to track back. I think he's best suited playing much closer to MadineHow would you use him?

Absolutely spot onFor me, Yates is being played too much as a winger. He's staying out wide too much which although it helps the team defensively doesn't do much for us as an attacking force. I'll eat my Season Ticket if we bring 6 quality players in January to fill those roles.Yes striker, midfielder 2 wingers, cover at right back and experience in central defence
Basically the same as we needed 4 months ago
We haven't played a 4-4-2 all season except for Saturday 2ndnhalfnwhen Yates was substituted, he played in a 4-4-2 last season but was completely nullified, Yates doesn't drop deep through choice he's playing in the front 3, but often he doesn't have an option depending who's playing behind him, playing off the right he's never had a proper Right Back behind him, let's be honest we've struggled in midfield all season he that for quality or personnel, with a proper full back and a better midfield behind he'd be able to play further up the pitch more often. The games he's been doing well in and scored in he's not been sat as deep and him and madine as a partnership in a 4-4-2 look good .
If it's a case of survival playing Yates too deep is not going to keep us up.
I certainly recall making enough comments last season about our failure to create chances and our forwards having to feed off scraps. I think in that respect it's been slightly better than last season. If we were missing a hat full of chances every game then yes we would.
Issue is our strikers are currently feeding off scraps because our midfield is way below par - and has been for over two years.
Plus - does anyone else think our back 4 sits too deep, inviting attacks, and making passing through the middle risky due to the distances?
We've got to put the squeeze on opponents and back our speedy defenders - and that means you Marv, and erm ...
The last two games the players have looked like they've never seen each other on a training ground which is unacceptable as they've just had 3 or 4 weeks to sort things out!For me it's about movement off the ball and the man with the ball anticipating that movement. In other words, taking your training ground stuff onto the pitch.
Yep, fair point - and tactics are all about opinions.I certainly recall making enough comments last season about our failure to create chances and our forwards having to feed off scraps. I think in that respect it's been slightly better than last season.
As for the back four, well we got caught out on saturday by not sitting deep although to be fair it was a wonderful ball from Robinson to give the player a chance to score. My concern is more the opposite to you. By pushing up so much, and at times i think we do, you can allow too much space between your keeper and back four and many times this season opposition midfield players have made a run beyond their own forwards and our back line into that space and created numerous chances to score.
Exactly right. Good midfield general is essentialWe don’t need another striker, we need to supply the ones we’ve got with better opportunities.
So it's too much to ask a so called professional to play 90 minutes.the truth of the matter is he's not good enough. Gary goals who didn't score 1 in 2 years at Cardiff, and has hardly scored any for us . The goal HE scored against them last week was laughable. Never any direction or power in his headers, that's if he ever challenges for the ball instead of trying to foul or simulating he's been fouled. The stamp on their player was a disgrace with no thought of the consequences. True captain material.for me, it's about Madine. He's doing a very good job but he's being asked to do too much by playing ninety minutes or so every game. So the question is is Beesley good enough to play and get goals in the Championship? I expect he'll get a chance to prove himself very soon and then we'll know whether we need another big man up front or not. I don't really see Madine going beyond this season.
From what's been reported he's been carrying a knock for a good while so yep we're doing well to get ninety minutes out of him. And at least he's earning his money whereas others like Bridcutt and Stewart seem to not have any concern about wanting to be fit to play for the club. And, yep there injuries just never seem to be clearing up.So it's too much to ask a so called professional to play 90 minutes.the truth of the matter is he's not good enough. I would give Beezley an extended run in the team to see how he fares. We still require a big man up front , but for me, Madine isn't that man.
I'm sure Bridcutt & Stewart want to be fit, to say they have no concern about wanting to be fit to play for the club is a cheap shot. From what's been reported he's been carrying a knock for a good while so yep we're doing well to get ninety minutes out of him. You incapable of reading properly? Think it's your post that is moronic. Especially when you say he's the most in form striker in the league. I reckon that a striker who hasn't scored in six games is hardly in form.Moronic.
Yates down the middle last year was completely ineffective, now he's on the LW he's arguably the most inform attacker in the league.
How can't people see that.
No.Funny how everyone is hoping in January they get a striker - do we need one?! We're hardly bursting the onion bag on a regular basis. Can we make do with what we've got?
It's a shame Burton's has closed downI'll eat my Season Ticket if we bring 6 quality players in January to fill those roles.
To go after Simms and Bishop who can lead the line in a 4-3-3 and bring fuck all in was criminal so now we're left scattering around in the bargain basement of the next transfer window.
Like I said out of position.
But, he's still producing his best season in his career (given the level he's at) playing in that position, it's not being incorrectly used that's the issue, it's the lack of quality and a specialist full back behind him to enable him to play higher
Sounds good, I’m not quite sure where all this money is going to come from though, if SS was confident that would keep us up maybe he’d go for it regardless of the cost to an extent going of the rewards financially of staying in this division, as it stands I’d expect him to get a couple of good players in, a couple of loans and maybe a couple of players who may come good but are a risk, that’s the six & we will be lucky if that all happensYes striker, midfielder 2 wingers, cover at right back and experience in central defence

Totally agree John and we could have another prolific scorer with Lavery. Sadly both are being horribly used by an Appleton system which should be consigned to the bin.We have the joint 2nd top scorer in the division being used all wrong .

yep, exactly. Yet some on here think that view is "moronic".Totally agree John and we could have another prolific scorer with Lavery. Sadly both are being horribly used by an Appleton system which should be consigned to the bin.
80 year old man in the family stand, wind it in.You incapable of reading properly? Think it's your post that is moronic. Especially when you say he's the most in form striker in the league. I reckon that a striker who hasn't scored in six games is hardly in form.
Ooh my little stalker is back after he scuttled off like a sewer rat. Who is this 80 year old man in the family stand you refer to? I've no idea, so why don't you address them directly because for obvious reasons it's nowt to do with me? Anyway tell me about how a player who hasn't scored for six games is considered to be the most inform striker in the division? And did you ever get round to reading the posts properly. Now I know you've scuttled off again but when you return could you tell me why every time you seem to post you seem to make a fuck up with what you're saying?80 year old man in the family stand, wind it in.
Bridcutt and Stewart have both got to be ditched and the midfield sorted. Both are living on their reputations of how good they have been in the past, but on the injury table, for as long as they both have been, is of no use to the team. I know they are both still on contract, but we must bite the bullet and exclude them from the 25 man squad in January.I'm sure Bridcutt & Stewart want to be fit, to say they have no concern about wanting to be fit to play for the club is a cheap shot.
Think we have no choice in excluding at least Stewart as he was not in the 25 man squad till Xmas, and I think it is widely agreed we need some fresh blood.Bridcutt and Stewart have both got to be ditched and the midfield sorted. "appauling"? Do you mean "appalling"? Seems you're not able to answer any of my points. If you're going to continue to stalk me you need to step up to the plate a bit more. Not that you're capable of doing that of course!Appauling literacy. I smell universal credit.

Now jog on.Are you capable of writing a comment without editing?
