Happy Valley

The Trades Club is a great venue for small gigs. I get the train up there once in a while, eat, beers, see a gig.

Well the day has finally arrived…..less than 4 hours to go. Everyone I’ve seen in the last couple of days has been talking of nothing else and working through all the possible scenarios 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️. Enjoy everyone & see you on the other side.

Presumably “Happy Valley” is an ironic title? Is there any character in it who is not as miserable as sin? It’s the most depressing thing I have seen in quite a while. Not my cup of tea at all.

I hope it doesn't end with a predictable outcome. Ryan killing his Tommy whilst he's beating up Catherine would be one.

I’ve not looked through the messages on this thread. It’s too long! 🤣
But I have to say i love happy valley. It’s gritty and believable. The acting is great.
The guy who plays Sarah Lancashire’s sisters partner is in the drama on itv called Without Sin. In happy valley he plays a wet submissive part, but in without sin he’s a crime gang leader and his character is the total opposite. Yet he’s equally effective and believable in both roles. Amazing.

I heard they’ve filmed more than one ending. But if this is to be the last series then I’d want her to walk away knowing they’re safe and that the escapee is dead. She’s probably the one to kill him. In the line of duty of course.

What's everyone's guess for the ending??

I've been thinking Ryan kills Tommy after Tommy batters Catherine to within an ace of her life...then they both ride off into the sunset after she recovers
But I think Tommy might kill Catherine now.

I'd be interested to know what we're all thinking might happen??!!

I think Clare might kill Tommy but I like Johnno’s theory that it could be Alison.

Not something I would normally think of watching, but did so because of this thread. Halfway through series 2 and find it very compelling. A great recommendation!

Definitely a good ending for me.

Not what most of us guessed. Gives Catherine some more closure without anyone carrying the burden of murdering Tommy.

Also found it ironic that his petrol scene took us right back to where we met Catherine in the very first episode facing a lad, a petrol can and a lighter.

I‘m sad it‘s over, but it’s the right decision I think, timing wise.

I thought the story about the pharmacist was very rushed at the end, but other than that it was very very good.
The last episode didn't disappoint. Sarah Lancashire and James Norton were excellent in the kitchen scene.

Agreed that, timing wise, it was the right time to conclude the 3 series

"I think I might’ve singed one of your crochet blankets" 😁

And the sheriff donned her shades and walked away 👍

I thought the ending was very good. Tommy came across as human in the end, which is something I'd never thought I'd say.
Said the same to my daughter. Didn’t think Tommy would have forgiveness or tears for lost love in him.

I think the lesson was that life and his experiences formed what Tommy was and maybe he wasn’t born a psychopath, and the same for Ryan, where his upbringing formed him and he was nothing like his dad.

Is it worth a visit
It’s ok to walk around….. it’s Hippyish, alternative etc, you know the script
Largest percentage of lesbians per head of population in the UK.

Also most sightings of UFOs.

Make of that what you will.
Aliens are causing Lesbian activity?…it’s an interesting proposition Wiz …and it seems plausible
I think they could have strung out another episode. It would have been nice to see the teacher and Chemists demise!

some fantastic acting and I’ve loved it, but I did find the final episode rushed a little….. I think we all need to see the other 4 endings 😄
agreed but I ain’t grumbling…thoroughly enjoyed it Kirky 👍

It was bloody good…. I’m probably a bit pissed off it’s finished! 😁 nowt to do on a Sunday now

I felt a tad disappointed while watching it by the rushed feel of it, the dropping of story lines that had been given a lot of time previously, and also feeling for the first time in this series that things got stretched too far from the believable. Tommy looking at photo albums and having a humane conversation with Cathy. Cathy entering the building alone. Etc.

But having reflected on it, those things are small in the context of how good the whole thing was, and it's not real life, it's a tv drama, and it did many good things well. I texted my slight disappointment to a female friend who left a controlling relationship with her young son and brought him up alone and she just replied that it was the ultimate vindication for every woman out there who brought up a boy without the support of a man.

Which put me straight really. Sally Wainwright has taught us a lot via the medium of tv drama. Thete was even a piece in the Guardian yesterday by an ex chief superintendent of the Met saying that if Sally Wainwright and Sarah Lancashire understand what good policing looks like, why doesnt the leadership of the Met?!

I think it also gives a sense of how strong capable women, and grandparents, often clear up after hopeless men and feckless boys, and hold families together. With men in pretty much all the senior positions in the HV police force, a female sergeant who is a mother of a dead rape victim is constantly teaching them how the job is actually done. While also bringing up the child produced by the rape to be a balanced sorted lad who is identified as a good candidate for the police force. Is that not Sally Wainwright's purpose? Do not underestimate or under appreciate women?

The whole thing is a female perspective, but not an unreasonable one I think.
