2nd Ashes Test

Tongue ? No spinner , No Woods, No Foakes , Really not sure about selection . Could be goodbye Ashes .
Very happy with that selection. Ali out with injury and Ahmed too inexperienced hence no spinners. Either Wood or Tongue for the fourth choice and Baz likes his rough diamonds clearly.

Also despite Bairstows howlers in the first test, he is a match winner. I'm very optimistic :)

I would have gone for Liam Dawson as a spin option. He can certainly hold a bat as well.
There looks to be a lack of variety. I guess we have to hope for 5 days of cloud.
Depends on the pitch. If it will take spin then I'd include an established spinner, perhaps Dawson.

Not having Wood is a gamble. I know he can be expensive but he can be hostile.

Just stop Oil dickheads at it again.

Seriously what do these jobsworth security stewards actually do around the ground? It’s a complete and utter farce employing them.

Good old Johnny Bairstow doing the job the stewards should be doing. 👍

Edit
Off for rain now. 🤨

There was an interview with Barry Hearn at the snooker when they disrupted there. He was asking anyone who had a ticket for that session to contact him as he was going to take the protestors to court for reimbursement. While he sympathised with their views, this wasn't the platform for them, and I thought he spoke brilliantly. I'd be interested to hear the outcome of it.

If they're reimbursing 100 or so snooker fans at £50 a time, how much would be due to an Ashes crowd? Even if it didn't disrupt play for very long, the intent was there.

27 without now.

I know it was cloudy at the start, but there's an old adage about winning the toss, thinking about having a bowl and still having a bat. But it's also pretty simple; drop catches and you're going to pay for it.

Aussies already dominating this.
Indeed they are Mac.
Warner just knocked an easy 50 Khawaja looking like his normal self in that he’ll be there all day.
Very slow progress from our bowlers so far on what looked a great wicket for bowling.

Edit
Wicket I’ll have to post again straight after lunch now. 🤣

Aussies scoring freely now the England bowlers are being hit for boundaries far too easily sun coming out as well it’s going to be a long afternoon in the field methinks.

154/2.

This is mediocre stuff from England. Why are we so often rubbish at Lords? They shouldn't be relying on the crowd to get their energy up.

Garbage from England. With dropped catches and bang average bowling, we've basically thrown away good conditions. I know things can change quickly but barring Tongue, we've been poor.

Far too sloppy and we don't have enough pace. Robinson is far too slow, Anderson is a shadow of his former self, Broad is doing okay and Tongue is doing best and he's the quickest. Poor catching and worse of all Stokes is nowhere near fit and shouldn't be playing, no matter how good a captain he is, we could have an all rounder who can bowl plenty of overs and score some runs. Baseball looks great when it's working, it looks shoddy and disorganised when it doesn't.

If we had Archer and Wood fit it would be a different proposition but the bowlers and the fielders have wasted a great opportunity in perfect swing bowling conditions to have the Aussies reeling.

The other thing is that for any movement we are getting, Australia will get the same with more menace. We need three wickets fast.

The number of extras is embarrassing. Needs to be sorted out. I reckon get them all out for 350ish and we're still in it. If they go over 400 it's hard to see a way back in.

There's a palpable lack of bounce about England. Not helped by the egg and bacon tie and corporate hospitality brigade but we need to conjure up some energy or this is gone.

Australia have batted well and benefitted from a couple of drops and some bang average bowling. As it stands we need to find at least 2 wickets before close or this one is looking ominous. England just look flat, which really isn't like them at all. Stokes and McCullum need to get right into them and put a little more fire in their belly.

Smith and Head are really showing us how it’s done looks so so easy taking runs off our bowlers.

Head already on 50 from just 48 balls.

Australia 274/3 and cruising. 🤨

100 partnership up already and 303/3.

Our bowling is just shocking but credit to these batsmen they’ve doubled the run rate since they’ve been in.

We’re going to be chasing a very big score here.

Great choice to win the toss and field. 😕

600 runs by close tomorrow?

…or maybe not….. ha ha ha Travis! Deary me! Done by the Root big time!
