4th Test England v Australia Official Thread

Warks 212 all out

Lancs have a 115 first innings lead. Thanks to that 145 8th wicket stand between Balderson and Bailey. And some good bowling. Two wickets for young spinner Morley and 2 for Balderson.
The CC game taking back seat but Lancs should hopefully win at Edgbaston. 👍🌹

Gutted for Bairstow but what a knock that is. No sulking either, just runs off to get ready for the Aussies 2nd innings. OT needs to be bouncing for when Anderson, Broad, Woakes and Wood come roaring in. Come on England!!!

Well done Jimmy for preventing Bairstow getting his 100. That'll teach whoever draped a Yorkshire flag from the hotel window at the ground.

Broad at Warner. If only we could coordinate the ground in an impression of Lucien from the Liver Birds in the 70s.

"Its me rabbit".

The wicket hasn't offered much so far. Hopefully as it wears, with the lacquer now off the new ball, we'll nick a couple out. As I type we so nearly get a wicket off a grubber.

Worst thing about the series is it's going to be over by the time August starts.

And then a void. No Eng cricket until a T20 30/8, which is not the ideal..

Headingley and Old Trafford have provided fantastic cricket wickets suited to our bowlers and intimidating atmospheres.

The two teams are very evenly matched but the superior northern grounds have given England the edge.

The ECB should hang their heads in shame that that advantage won’t be there in the next home Ashes.

The Aussie mentality is to seek every single bit of advantage in order to win.

The English mentality is to try and seek every opportunity to make as much money as possible . . I blame Thatcher 😀

The forecast has turned worse for Sunday.

There's little or no chance of play tomorrow and if I had a ticket I wouldn't even travel. Sunday may see some play, but enough? Just depends whether the rain comes and then goes or comes, goes, fine then comes and goes again.

Not Brexit?

He even took two catches . . It must be Ben Foakes in his ginger Sumo fancy dress?
He appears to have had a 'tidy' game behind the stumps, although I haven't seen much but did see a fumble from a straightforward take. He laughed. The benefit of 99 in the bank.

Behind the stump he is a disaster waiting to happen. He doesn't have the physique to do it consistently.

cheers. Because of the train strike we've shelled out over 200 quid for a minibus. No real option other than to go and hope we see something.

He let two boundaries through his legs on Wednesday.

.... the aussies are going 2 win because of the weather.... there might not be another ball bowled ...but if they lose a day 2 the weather why can't they reschedule it ?... surely these ground whi lose so much money if it rains would be all 4 it ..

I've given it a lot of thought and I'm pretty pissed off tonight. This England team is brilliant but self indulgent. Australia's wits are scattered but they are playing the odds as they always do. We're playing to the ego of the likes of Baz and Bairstow, who was indulged by Stokes to try to get his ton, and then had the total lack of self awareness to have a pop at all and sundry for criticising his shite wicketkeeping. His justification was that it takes time to recover from a major injury. Of course it does! That's why we needed a fit keeper in from day one, rather than being the JB recuperation programme while we're trying to win the Ashes. FFS.

Sermon over, let's knock them over this weekend

Spot on pal, sadly it looks like the weather is going to spoil what would have been a landslide England victory setting up a glorious shootout for the Ashes at the Oval, such a crying shame but as you mentioned when we do the post-mortem on why we didn't win the Ashes a lot of criticism will be aimed at team selection and Jonny Bairstow who was unfit and under cooked due to his injury, selecting him for the first two Tests will be under the microscope because Ben Foakes should have been (and still should) be selected as wicket keeper, JB is good enough to be selected as a batter alone as he proved yesterday and proved all last summer when he was our best batsman, but the gloves is a specialist trade and in Ben Foakes we have one of the very best in the world and you pick someone with less ability at your peril, especially when they've been out injured for so long. JB's performance with the gloves was a big part why we went 2-0 down in this series when worse case scenario we would have been at least level in the series now and more likely 2-1 up and not bothered about this weekend awful weather forecast.

Looks highly likely the Aussies will retain the Ashes due to rain unless somehow we get some play and manage to clean up six wickets, but it will be a damp way to retain them sat in the pavilion with rain teeming down outside and knowing that all the momentum is with England and the rain will have saved their bacon.😩

Just watched the hi lights of yesterday and those pool fans who went yesterday must have had an amazing day. Such a shame about the weather but at least we can draw the series at the Oval. We should have at least won one of the first two tests.

A lot of similarities to the ladies Ashes where England were the better side but a poor start gave them too much to do to and a draw was enough for the Aussies to retain them.

Live not far from OT - heavy rain all morning but just stopped.
It will start again, but is due to stop later for a while. Won't be long enough to get the ground fit for play at any time today.

Just a question of how long they get tomorrow. They might only need 15 overs, but 40 is more realistically the minimum. Forecast is rain easing later with a 50% chance. Won't be play before lunch, maybe 3, then a case of the ground and luck.
