Lee Charles and Jane have been and thought it was a fantastic addition to the local scene. Not sure if this is a serious post? If you look at what has opened it is artisan and craft produce which will attract additional custom to the outlets which you mention and which are already in Blackpool.
As for whether anyone has been and spent money yet the pictures from yesterday certainly looked busy.
Or maybe you knew that and this was just another attempt at being negative?
Why will they not be spending money in town? Do you not spend money around where you work?
Meant to be 3k of them I think. It’s open until 10 so an after work tea venue is a possibility
Im one of them and I’ll certainly do a bit of after work shopping and possible eating out after workMeant to be 3k of them I think.
Obviously they all won't be out there splashing cash every day but a small % will.
I imagine places like abdingdon barbecue, Yorkshire fisheries, Stefanis, the new market food hall, subway, local cafes etc will see an increase in trade.
Whilst in town already they may do some shopping too.
So you're one of the ones moving? Will it cost more with the parking side of it? Is that an annoyance?Im one of them and I’ll certainly do a bit of after work shopping and possible eating out after work
I’m coming from the Devonshire Pub area. I currently drive into Peel Park but I will either catch the 7 bus or walk in when we move, weather dependant. So you're one of the ones moving? Will it cost more with the parking side of it? Is that an annoyance?
Surely they should offer some sort of discount, I know there's yearly passes etc but not exactly cheap.
Tbh they should have built an underground car park for the building IMO.
Alright Nostradamus Let's see what stalls open and see how they do before we predict impeding doom.
The stalls are closer to the Abingdon Street entrance so will have plenty of passing traffic.
Once people have eaten they can pass through there, or many will go to the food halls past the stalls once that side opens.
There's also a lot of people who say they want market stalls, so 14 stalls should be enough to meet most needs.
I think it's a good thing they are moving in but it's annoying for those who drive in, being forced to pay the extra.I’m coming from the Devonshire Pub area. I currently drive into Peel Park but I will either catch the 7 bus or walk in when we move, weather dependant.
There are no parking facilities or discounts and I’m not paying a day rate for parking in Blackpool 2 days a week. Most of us are hybrid now so at least it is only 2 days a week.
I’m not annoyed about it at all. To be honest I think it pays to be grateful that we have decent employment and lucky that we’ve had such good free parking facilities for so long. That’s my positive spin and the extra shopping facilities to hand are a bonus
People have it far far worse, and always have
Ye most will be working 2 days a weekI think it's a good thing they are moving in but it's annoying for those who drive in, being forced to pay the extra.
So the 3k moving in is largely only 2 day a week so won't be 3k there in reality most days?
So a good move for the town overall but not good for everyone, but that's life.
Like you say though make the most of it and take the advantages it does bring.
The building looks nice and the area will be nice too. The Multiversity will be right near there so a nice new square will be built.
We'll just have to wait and see what stalls come in, will it be all little shops or will a fishmongers come back for eg. Not sure that smell would compliment the food hall further down. There’ll be no one happier than I, if they make a success of it. Well apart from the market traders, and the landlord. And the families and friends of the stall holders. And the council. And the food merchants cos they’ll get some shoppers who will then decide to eat. And HMRC. But no one apart from all them/they/he/her/Fisherthem.
How many will be in at once? Presume people will be alternating their days?Ye most will be working 2 days a week
If the building was secured prior to the knowledge of hybrid though maybe now some other staff may move from other sites to the building to fill the spaces if it holds 3k. BUT, that’s just me pondering.
I definately think if you can’t control it positive spin it
I’ve heard there is going to be a mayonnaise stall full of complex Mayo flavour combinations and the chance to mix your own. There’ll be no one happier than I, if they make a success of it. I don’t know to be honest. At the moment we can pick our 2 days each week and that works. I really don’t know if or how that may change when we are in the new building. How many will be in at once? Presume people will be alternating their days?
That would be a huge success cos I think almost all Blackpool residents have it as part of their daily diet.I’ve heard there is going to be a mayonnaise stall full of complex Mayo flavour combinations and the chance to mix your own.

LOL, I knew that where there was booze and food our Jane would be there
I think it was mostly locals who attended the other day.LOL, I knew that where there was booze and food our Jane would be there
I see it as a real opportunity to be something for the locals not the holiday makers, if they can get the right people in selling produce, like an Asian Greengrocer, if anyone was at Luton the shops on the High Street were amazing, you want stuff you can't get at the Supermarkets, Artisan Bakers, Cheese, Deli, record stall, Fresh Fish stall, Butcher, traditional sweets etc., we have that here in Cambridge and it is so busy and popular with the locals, it's such a great opportunity.
Blackpool could also do with a cafe culture for locals so away from the front and the holiday makers, Whitegate Drive would be ideal, great restaurants, Street food, Bars, tables on the pavement, live music, make it somewhere for locals and the more discerning holiday maker to go and enjoy. Blackpool is ripe for regeneration and if it is done properly including the front, particularly the front then it could be a great place to visit for an English holiday and also for locals. I'd love to get involved in that and I know there are several on here who would be great at making it happen too. Blackpool is my home, it's in my heart and is part of me.
It's difficult when you're an exile but I absolutely love the Fylde coast and can't wait to move back there (sorry mum!! ) I just think it is probably the best place in the country for regeneration, as I said for locals and tourists. I'm sure a change in the town centre could see more boutique guest houses being available alongside the more affordable places Blackpool is so famous for. Stags and Hens can be catered for but it doesn't have to be the only thing people come to Blackpool for. I'g love to hear Michelle's thoughts on this as she is right on it.I think it was mostly locals who attended the other day.
We'll see what stalls come to it soon.
As for the other regeneration mentioned that would be welcome, Whitegate Drive has seen some of those type of improvements over the last maybe decade or so.
For eg no 10 ale House which has the nice outside bit for the summer or any nice weather.
Or here, where there's been a pizzeria (sotto pizzeria BTW, looks decent, gets good reviews) with a nice outside area.

Also to the right there's another extended outside area, but not sure what it's become, the Google maps images are many months old now. But you can see the obvious improvements as well as the nice street trees now.
Yeah Whitegate Drive isn't a bad shout.
If you haven't already, nip over to my Blackpool improvements thread. The street food on the front was given the go ahead, for near the sandcastle, shipping containers and all sorts of different food.
That a bit like this market foodhall, another decent place offering good choice to look forward to.
It was an example of some small scale improvements.Whenever I go past no10 alehouse, its shut. A couple oof new bars aint regeneration.
It's going for more of the family appeal these days and trying to move away from the more rowdy element. It's difficult when you're an exile but I absolutely love the Fylde coast and can't wait to move back there (sorry mum!! ) I just think it is probably the best place in the country for regeneration, as I said for locals and tourists. Whitegate Drive, all the way from the Saddle to the number 3 is ripe for improvement, it's a lovely area anyway and if it could get the right businesses there it could be a massive hit with locals and holidaymakers. Think Brighton for example. That has far more for everyone and it was in the doldrums 25 years ago. and it's a great place to go now. There is just so much potential to encompass everything from the kiss me quick through to a cafe culture and music theatre and the arts should feature heavily.
My lad’s at the Warbreck site, and I’m pretty sure they’re all ending up at the town centre building, after a temporary move to Fleetwood!Ye most will be working 2 days a week

Yeah Highfield Road is doing well.Highfield Road, an old haunt of mine from the 60’s, is a great example of regeneration over the last few years. It’s now worthy of a city high street, bars, eateries of different types of international food, as well as local food outlets and shops.

Yeh, Lytham exists in its own overpriced little bubble, re housing, aerospace workers, wealthy retirees, and new money. No area in Blackpool could ever compete with that, but hopefully each ward if you like, can progress in the future with more internal investment. I would love to see Bond Street and surrounding area rise again into the shopping district of the past, but it will take time.Yeah Highfield Road is doing well.
Boom time in the go-to destination dubbed Lancashire's 'new Lytham'
"It's the new Lytham'www.lancs.live
Whilst I think someone got a little carried away with the new Lytham comment, clearly the area is doing well which is good to see and in terms of amount of shops, restaurants, bars etc it's doing pretty well.
Correct 2020, My wife had a children’s nursery on Dunes Ave. for 20 years until recently so we’ve always had a connection with the area. Also our daughter and family moved to Bournemouth Road last year, and love the nightlife and shops, next time you’re down there stop and have a slurp at one of the hostelries.Yes Levi, I still can't say that I've ever been "out out" on Highfield Road or even "out" but whenever I'm walking down there on a Friday or Saturday night, there seems to be plenty going on and I've everybody seems to be enjoying themselves, the terrace thing at Winston's seems very popular.

Yeh worn 501’s since 1969, not same pair btw! 71 this year in old git years!I'm always scruffy when walking past but I'll make an effort to stop sometime.
I forgot to say when you mentioned the 60s before, I always thought 501 was your jeans, I'd never realised it was your age !!!!!!
Yeh worn 501’s since 1969, not same pair btw! 71 this year in old git years!
I’m blushing! Age really is just a number, think young without being a wally, never succumb to being “in my era” always have a discerning ear to new genres of music. Imo natch.lol - I don't know why but I always thought you were much younger.

14 stalls so probably mostly standard market things but could be a couple of curveballs.
Abingdon BBQ doesn't need an increase in trade, the place is permanently rammed!Meant to be 3k of them I think.
Obviously they all won't be out there splashing cash every day but a small % will.

It'll be interesting to see what route they go, as if they have cheap market retailer selling cold drinks fir a quid, where they are 2 quid in the hall.. it might undermine it.The type of stalls will be key. In my opinion they need to pitch themselves towards middle/higher end fashion and accessories including bags and watches.
This ain’t gonna work if they have a bread seller, a fishmonger and a butcher. Or by selling cheap tat.
Although a strapline such as ‘Abingdon Street Market - the new home of Mr Wriggly’ - might just work.
No it’s never going to be the traditional market of old. It’s attracting different clientele. So perhaps go in, eat and drink, treat yourself or loved one to a vanity/luxury purchase or a fashion item. But get the cob loaf and the piece of hake, pet food, and ball of wool from somewhere else.
By the way, there’s already many establishments who are the unofficial home of Mr Wriggly. However they’re on Dickson Road, not Abingdon Street.
Yep seen it, from quite a few oldies etc.Go on FB and read the moaning comments …it’s hilarious
Fair enough but you get the point, an increase in trade for places in the area can make it thrive, places expand if necessary, new places pop up etc.Abingdon BBQ doesn't need an increase in trade, the place is permanently rammed!
Lunch times the queue can go almost to the old post office. I work in town and queue for quite a long time whe I go there. It is quality though
That area -The Horseshoe- would not be accessible when there is a big event on in the Winter GardensI dont know why they dont put all the old market stalls into the Winter Gardens. There are vast areas of that bulding never being used it would be ideal.Central location, good footfall for Winter Gardens, potential tea and lunch customers for the cafe's and bars.
Like this area that inst really useable for events due to its shape but would work perfectly for a walk through market for local traders and you could plenty of traders in maximising rental opportunities.

It is still there, and also at the front of the building (on Abingdon St) there is still the sign above the door saying "Police Station".Did you know that Police Street, Blackpool is on the left as you go out of Abingdon St. Market?
It is/was between the Market and the GPO rear, just a very short St. I think it's still there.
There's 3 very short streets there.Did you know that Police Street, Blackpool is on the left as you go out of Abingdon St. Market?

Police street.
Queen Vera's Rd. In between the Market and the Old sorting office.
St johns walk. Which was another entrance to the market in between the church and the Old Yorkshire Bank building.
No one said you had to live there.Worked in the sorting office for thirty odd years till they got rid of me for nothing more than getting ILL. ABINGDON st had NO attracytion foe me. departing to Lyytham st annes next week. to many bad memories .

Who owns the old GPO now.No one said you had to live there.
Or you could enjoy the facts that's it's no more. Going to be a hotel soon.
Should have quite a nice little square inside that'll be landscaped etc.
They should get you in five days a week or whatever days you work, help the growth of the town centre. Afterall the tax payers have sorted new offices for you.I don’t know to be honest. At the moment we can pick our 2 days each week and that works. I really don’t know if or how that may change when we are in the new building.
