Accrington Stanley v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 19.12.20

Really surprised Virtue is in from the start, but more than happy to once again see how it works out. I can't see Virtue letting us down, at the very least he'll provide plenty of energy & movement.

In Critch we trust.

Keshi in Kaikai role hopefully
Virtue and the Aussie Makelele in the engine room.
jeez we’ve got cracking options

The three changes seem to represent a recognition of the need to compete physically. Madine for KK, Ballard in, Virtue instead of Ward.

Squad rotation from Critchley
Two games a week is a big ask and we have done that for about 10 weeks.
Not surprised to see Virtue included, I would guess he is Critchley's first choice in that position.
We do have a strong squad, it's great to see.

I thought ward been doing ok
It’s tactical I think, and feel that like last Saturday, NC is focussing more on the opposition. I hope I’m wrong, but I can’t see us having pace or creativity in midfield, so Dougal is going to have to work twice as hard.

Ward and Robson are 100% better players than Virtue.

Fingers crossed for Virtue, hope he proves me wrong.

Big test for Virtue and he does deserve a chance...I think Ward has been very unlucky as he had his best game and got potted...I am not Virtues biggest fan and I have reservations about him going forward as he is so slow but I hope he shines.

Virtue is a goal scoring box to box midfielder, also captained Liverpool U23s when Critchley was there. I don't think that we have seen the best of him yet
Goal scoring, 5 in 52. I remember a mishit at Sunderland.

Box to Box, but in his own time and often struggles to find a teammate with a pass.

Wish him the best though, hope you are right.

I am very happy to trust Critchley's judgement, everytime he does something that the experts on here don't expect we hear about it on here.
Yet on Tuesday when Madine was dropped the experts knew better. But as soon as we went 4-4-2 in the game we came under a lot of pressure. I'm happy to let Critchley pick the team.
I remember a screamer at Bradford

The more this bunch of players get questioned and written off on here, the more they show what they're capable of.
I'll trust Critch's judgement of what he has seen in training and how he wants us to line up specifically against Accy.

Think Ward is just a bit technically better than Virtue. Virtue will bring the energy but Ward has that cute little pass to release a player. A bit more vision than Virtue. Away from home, no problem with a high energy player though.

I agree, but I'm expecting (hoping) Anderson to provide that spark instead whilst Virtue brings a higher work rate.

Think I am more worried, being out so long , has he had enough games to start , match fit

Timpers is to Virtue as Wiz is to Husband. 😃
I had a lot of hope for Virtue, but I just didn’t see the value of his contribution and the final straw was his performance in the replay v Reading. He was shocking on every level that night, I think playing alongside Callum Guy.

I wish him the very best, hope he’s on the up again.

He's scored a few cracking goals including the one at Sunderland. How many has Dougall scored so far? Virtue isn't a striker.

The pessimist in me has a bad feeling, we might have the "Champions League syndrome" where we put too much into that massive game midweek and we'll be spent on Saturday.

Maybe I'm just trying to not let myself get carried away. If we beat these it'll prove our mental resilience as well as quality in the squad, can't wait for it regardless of my pessimism! COME ON THE POOL 🍊
Its the not getting carried away option, its a safety net to protect your Saturday.

I was responding to the comment that he’s a goal scorer. Comparing Dougall and his contribution isn’t the point, he’s in a different league to Virtue.

Only change for me would of been Ward, he is starting to look the part. He must trust Virtue, brought him straight on as sub and starts him here, his fitness levels must be good after the injury!

Young lad allowed a shocker now and again. I still think he will play for pool in Championship hopefully next season

Interesting team news. Viking not involved, Virtue starting in place of Kaikai and Cole and Yorke up front.
I wonder if Gretarsson isn’t up to it after the Hull game, took a bit of a battering. For me Kai Kai doesn’t deserve a starting berth after midweek.

Isn't it fantastic to have these sort of options to change players in the starting 11, whether we agree with the changes or not we have certainly come a long way since the departure of the odious ones 👍

The Viking had a very good game against Hull on Tuesday but he took a battering off their forwards, so l assume he needed a rest or picked up a slight knock.
