There is NO such thing as woke. It is a construct of the right wing media and far-right political parties and groups. Where it came from? It came from the idea that people should be AWAKE to inclusiveness. There is nothing wrong with that. The concept of WOKE is a caricature dreamt up by the far right...and their media sycophants.

Whatever you call it, it’s a thing. Virtue signalling. A scramble to be seen to be saying and doing the ‘right thing’ around minorities.
Which on the face of it is fine. But they take it too far and start pushing age inappropriate sexualised content to kids, and try to influence kids by pushing them LGBTQ+ products from an early age. Like the kids swimming costumes with a ‘tuck sack’. It’s to help tuck away their their meat and two veg if they’re a male but want to be a girl at the age of 8 or something ridiculous like that.

Adidas having men modelling a woman’s swim suit or Nike having a male marketing their women’s sports bras is twisted and wrong. You can object to the label this sort of nonsense is given. Don’t use the word woke if you don’t want. But it does exist. Silencing the word used to describe it achieves nothing.

But who are 'they'? I've never done it. I doubt most ordinary people have done it. So, who are these horrible virtue signallers? I'll tell you what they are, they are made up villains. Made up by the Sun and the Heil, to encourage their customers to get annoyed.

The answer to who has done it is in the o/p and my post. Corporations such as Target and Nike and Bud Light. And the followers who align with them.

This is the problem. Rational people are shocked by the extremists, but only on the opposite side. No one is calling rational left-leaning people woke but they defend themselves instead of moving out the way. There are lunatics on the extreme left and right causing all sorts of trouble but there is willful blindness on both sides.

Elon Musk took over at Twitter, peered behind the curtain and concluded that there is a "woke mind virus". Instead of paying attention, it's easier to accuse a lifelong democrat of being another alt-right Nazi and bury our heads in the sand.

On the one hand, it shows how deeply divided American society is, where absolutely everything and everyone is pushed into taking a side in an increasingly binary, increasingly bad faith culture war.
On the other, it's possible that social media is just amplifying the voices of the lunatic extremes (on both sides), and the vast majority of Americans in the middle don't get involved/heard in this debate because they don't care.

What's hilariously ironic is these corporations getting fucked over. Target, Adidas, McDonald's et al didn't start putting pride flags up because they felt morally compelled, or developed an ethical conscious. They did it to make more money. Now they're doubly fucked, because the MAGA nutters boycott them at first, then when they withdraw some pride products the lesbians feel betrayed and boycott too. 🤣
 
Yes it’s all changing in America even the the Duke and Duchess of Woke are now floundering due to this pushback and have even stated that they are now ceasing their constant ridicule and bashing of the Royal Family, well until the dollars start drying up that is!

The Daily Mail "earned" the nickname of the Daily Heil as a result of its support for the Nazi regime in Germany in the 1930s. It has been pursuing a right wing (your words) agenda ever since.

If you think that questioning the Mail's brand of hate-filled, shrill and extremist political posturing is "extremist woke" behaviour, it says more about you than it does about anyone else. I just think it is common decency - you can have strong political views without losing your sense of humanity and fairness.
 
I’ve no problem with explaining that some people are different to kids. I’m not going to create a make believe land for my children so they find out about homosexuality when they turn 16.

I certainly wouldn’t want them to feel like they had to hide feelings from me and they can be proud of who they are however they feel.

Indeed you can Robbie, I just don't see much of it on here. And there are plenty of leftie posters on here who show very little in the sense of balance. More a case of incessant hatred. The guardian and the daily Mail are two opposite sides of the political coin.

Both are well established newspapers with a long history and they have sufficient readership to stay in business.

I very much doubt they’d stay in business if their readership were mainly the extremists. The extremists by definition tend to be those on the extremes, not merely right of centre or left of centre.

I don’t know too much about the history of either paper. But citing something from the 1930s isn’t very relevant to today. Nor does the Guardian’s historical links to the slave trade have much to do with their current editorial offerings.

There are some today who want to apologise for things the country did, and its values, long long ago. But back then the values differed to todays values.

We will be doing things now as a generation, which will be frowned upon in the future. That doesn’t make it wrong in today’s society. Nor would I expect future generations to be hung up on what we did in 2023 and have to apologise for it. Eg will our future generations be working a two day week and shaming today’s society for the 5 day working week?

I agree with looking forwards not backwards and not judging the past on today’s values. Yeah there’s history to be taught. But we can’t get too hung up on the past nor be selective about the things we want to dredge up. Not many of the woke like to mention that the British were playing pivotal in ending the slave trade. We fought battles over it and many lives were sacrificed.

They write the same hate filled stuff for the same reasons today.

For that reason its vital that their position on the nazis all that time ago is brought up.
