Annoyed because of clueless Appleton

I wonder what those who warmed to Appleton after his first interview on radio Lancs think now.
I have supported the pool for 56 years and have seen managers come and go; some very good, some good, some average, some poor and some very poor. IMO Appleton falls in the last 2 categories and I am not saying that based on tonight’s debacle.
I said I didn’t like the appointment from the off but was willing to give him a chance.
We are very fortunate not to be in the relegation zone which is only due to the battling performances from our team.
Sadly even this seems to be fading (it certainly was tonight).
Another away trip on Saturday doesn’t bode well at all.
Not my usual outlook but at the moment I cannot see anything to be optimistic about.

Appleton gets credit when it’s due, and we’ve done ok so far this season.
By the same token he has to own that performance tonight. It was genuinely shocking
"We've done ok so far this season" do you really believe that?
We have been terrible all season, we were fortunate against Reading, QPR, Bristol and Huddersfield and absolutely shocking Vs Stoke, Blackburn and now Rotherham. This team is only going in one direction. Knee jerk reaction after 9 games BUT our football is not of Championship quality and neither is this team.

And neither is the team.

True enough. But we do have better in the squad.

I'd say we've done okay so far this season, yes today was shite, but I trust Appleton will realise that kind of performance and defending is not acceptable.

I'll put my neck on the line and say MA gives Williams a rest. The longer he is played the more people will question his judgement.

We've been poor at times but you can't just discount the wins and results.

Tonight was shite but we did have limited options with players returning not able to play the 90 yet.

We looked at least better on the ball with better players on later on.

But it's not Appleton fault Dougall was passing 5 yard passes to no-one.

Yep, and I was one of those. I got behind him, the team and the club…. But I’m a little nervous regards to performances , the loan list and lack of getting players in/over the line. of course we’re going to have poor performances, but just look at Rotherham- newly promoted, very similar gates to ours, bringing players in and moulding L1 players into decent Championship players - fair play, they’re well organised from top to bottom and they’ll do well. us on the other hand, jury is out.

Yeah prior to tonight I thought we’ve done ok. Not terrible, not great. Some good passages of play, some not so good. Considering what he’s working with budget wise, in comparison to most clubs in this division.
But tonight was so so bad. Can’t remember leaving a game and being so shocked at what I’d just seen

It’s simple fans
is it Appleton, most on here including me never wanted , but will support him , or is it the board not backing appleton
I thought something was up in the summer , but we just don’t know what it is , maybe covid catching up on pool , like other clubs are struggling 🤷 maybe

I think we need PAULCO on this thread..lol

For me he needs to get rid of Williams... theo needs to come off bench and take from there.

Answer is defo not rid of manager.. look at udders and others.

I think appy has done OK.. just need midfield back (last patino came back).. and see where we go... we will be fine.. but tonight was disappointing

Rotherham played well tonight, we did'nt, so until the manager solves 2/3 issues these results will happen again.
A mobile striker who can hold the ball up is a big miss, Madine would have improved things tonight but the 3 places in
the squad needs to be looked at now and filled, get 3/4 free agents in to be looked at in training. Williams is not the answer
which means Appleton has a big problem and that needs to be sorted with another Keogh type player otherwise we will be in trouble,
The striker situation again has got to be looked at urgently, no good waiting for Beesley or Stewart it will be to late, just dont see a goal scorer in this team. Midfield we should have enough if we can find the right experienced player.

Udders have got rid, we need to.follow suit.

Apples focus is too heavy on the strengths of the opponent's and the negative approach is weighing heavily on our squad. We're already sh1tting our pants about going to Millwall. He's already said after our defeat tonight, he's worried.

Blackpool boss Michael Appleton:

"It wasn't great. As a coach and a manager for a number of years, all I want to do when I lose a game of football is lose it in a certain way and for my team to show character regardless of who they are up against in terms of ability or physical presence.

"Just show a bit of personality and I thought we lacked that tonight. It is hard for me to take because I just want to get on the pitch myself and show the players what I mean by personality.

"We were a little bit reactive. If you look at the three goals, Rotherham got first contact in the box and you are going to struggle.

"We just made it far too easy for them and it is difficult to take."

Tbf MA ain’t had much help in the transfer window …Brannigan /drinkwater ..neither seemed likely really ..? Lots of injuries also not helping …? Best player sold etc…

Understandable words, though he also needs to think about taking the players with him. i.e. waht will make them clock on not clock off. I think we need our proper characters back in the side.

We were ** woeful.

And what makes it worse is that we were playing a very ordinary Rotherham team that will be lucky to stay up. Aside from the first 3 minutes their keeper was a spectator.

It's not just the manner of the defeat; it's the fact we don't have a shape, we are tactically inept and completely ineffectual without Bowler. That has to go down as one of the worst displays in the past ten years if not more.

We have been linked with a plethora of players who have been trained and developed under Appleton - yet not one has decided to sign for us. So it's either the board or the manager, either way we are in for a long depressing season as things stand.

Its not a question of it being either the board or Appleton's fault but a combination of the two.

We had a shit summer highlighted by some embarrassing episodes like Brannagan but the board aren't responsible for sending a disinterested team out.

None of those players were playing for the manager last night and that's the ultimate concern, most clubs can complain about transfer windows.

It's not overly worrying yet unless we don't see a response very very soon.

Did you go tonight? It was the worst performance I think I’ve ever seen by a Blackpool side. There was no formation and the only tactic was to hoof it up to Jerry who was being marked by guy about a foot taller than him. It was absolutely tragic.
No I didn't go tonight why because I hate the place, we never win there 1996 last league win and didn't want to take time off work did you go?
You don't for home games I watched on TV(don't know what difference that makes).

We where poor tactics where wrong it happens it's the usual shotgun approach on here after a defeat which is pathetic Rotherham where better than us but after 40 years of watching the pool to say that was the worst performance from a Blackpool side is the biggest over dramatic bullshit ever.

Actually if you look at the stats I believe of all the matches we have played against Rotherham they have won 21 and we have won 19 and obviously the rest were draws.

Best post so far Lytham
A managers first and foremost priority is to motivate his players and instil some passion.
Appleton said he wanted to go onto the pitch himself and show them what he means.
I’m afraid if he can’t do it as a manager then is he really the man for the job?
I don’t think I have seen such a disjointed performance as last night for a long time

It will take time.
The players will have to get used to his style and his tactics. Some will probably have to leave, some new ones will come in.
Give him a chance. We have been unlucky with injuries and suspensions, we are not playing our best team atm.
The two games I have been to we have done OK and come away with lucky wins (QPR, Hudds). We have had an Ok start in a tough division.
The out of sorts Dougall is a worry and the defence is leaky atm. It's early days in his second term here. Critchley was on the verge of the sack after 10 games.

MA is not clueless .

The players are young and talented.

They need someone with them on the pitch who is a natural leader who can sort them out and who they are answerable to.

I’m not sure we’ve got that .

However it’s one game and if we get a performance at Millwall all be well again

That’s football

I would imagine he has got that ability to motivate as he's been around and has had success, so you'd hope he's got it in hand and isn't just a PowerPoint display manager.

Since the injuries and the sale of Bowler I've expected a draw at best from the last few games.

Get the other players off the treatment table and we can start doing something.

Also, after the 3 shipped against Burnley I would have dropped Grimmy for Maxi to send a message. Because need someone to organise the back four, talking to them and what have you.

What did Bowler offer anyway......😂

I did go. I usually work Tuesdays and Saturdays so it makes it difficult to get to games, hence me going to a game on a Wednesday night.

I’m usually with you about the doom and gloom after a defeat but last night was different. Myself and many others sat around me couldn’t even work out what formation we were supposed to be playing and by the looks of it, the players didn’t know either. It was poor after the third minute.

MA can’t do anything about the three goals, the defending was utterly abject. What he can do something about is work with the players and coach them to make them better players. That’s his job. If we were gash but walked away with a point we would still be bouncing.

He's still finding his feet here, trying to find the right balance with a disjointed team due to our shite transfer window and injuries.
I didn't want him from the start, but because of that, surprisingly, I think we've actually performed better than I was expecting, we've certainly got more points than what I had envisaged us having.

We'll have a few more performances like last night I imagine, but there will also be better ones too where we pick up 3 points.

Whether we'll be consistent enough to stay up remains to be seen. I certainly have zero faith in anyone at the club having whatever it takes to get some decent deals over the line in January should we need (we will) signings to strengthen what we currently have if we're struggling down the wrong end of the table.
