Flew back to Blighty last night to make sure my 81 year old Mum is taking this serious. I have never taken a health scare like this so worrying before, I was brushing it off as the usual, wont affect me, nonsense, a week back. I know one friend diagnosed Yesterday & 7 contacts of her now in isolation. Never in my life have I seen anything like this.

Told my Mum to limit going out, scary shit for me now, hope it isn't going to get off the scale crazy bad, I'm 45, never seen this before.

Stay safe people, take this serious Please

As long as everyone does take it seriously - stay hygienic, self isolate first sign of symptoms and don't be stupid with hoarding and panic buying, it'll pass.

1% ish of premier league workers have been diagnosed, presume they were just tested for healthcare and insurance purposes being valuable assets, imagine 1% of the general population in the UK, thats Scary

My friend has it, and her partner and other people they had contact with..

She is really bad. Really struggling to breath and not even 30. Said she can't compare it to flu, and said I should stay home before I come into contact with it, its that bad.

I am bloody scared!

We should all be worried and following the advice given.
Whereabouts are you and your friends?

I haven't been in contact with them in person.. they live in Manchester.

It's all good saying to follow the advice, but some idiots aren't taking it serious. Some people are laughing at it like it's a joke, some people are still leaving the house with colds, and coughs etc.. !

Really worried for my parents. Both about 80, mum just recovering from heart surgery and on oxygen at home, dad diabetic. They're isolating themselves with my sister (ex nurse) as sole point of contact. The problem for me is that it's 10-14 weeks til the peak, and most people catch it 10 weeks either side of peak (according to the medical/science guys with Boris yesterday). That's a danger period of 24 weeks - how can those at serious risk self isolate for that long?

I TOLD MY MUM, TO JUST STAY INDOORS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, THINKING OF STAYING OVER HERE TO KEEP AN EYE ON HER

Me and my wife always go out for a drink on a Friday after work . We didn’t go to our usual as it’s always rammed and the number of blokes I see leaving the toilet without washing their hands I didn’t think it was worth the risk

My mother is an active, healthy nonagenarian. We have a family party on Sunday and she shouldn't really attend but she is pretty insistent. 'We've all got to die sometime' is her attitude. Not sure if this is a good or bad attitude for her to have.

She is kinda right, compus mentis at that age, still has it all clued up, nobody wants to loose a loved one, does not matter what age, losing loved ones just beats the fuck out of you.

WHO MADE THIS WORLD UP, JUST CRUEL

Extremely worried for parents. The reason why this should be taken far more seriously is that unlike Flu, the human population has no immunity and there is no medication. Literally if you're body can't fight it off on its own, you will die. Sorry to be so blunt about it but that's the truth of it.

If it really takes hold, the number of deaths this year doesn't bear thinking about. The best thing people can do in my opinion is to stop visiting elderly relatives, try and get them to isolate themselves as much as possible. Once this is over, the likelihood of another outbreak in this country will be relatively low precisely because the government is delaying lock down. More immunity built up now means it's less likely to come back. That means if you're elderly relatives can isolate themselves and avoid catching it this time, they're unlikely to have any problems in the future.

Been out at Wetherspoons Cleveleys tonight - just for a few pints to celebrate my birthday...
Expected it to be quiet but it was packed. Not sure whether to be pleased or dismayed at that.
But you need to live your life. Please remember that you are still far more likely to die in a car crash/heart attack/ of "normal" flu this weekend.
People hibernating isn't a long time policy. Be careful but not over the top in your reaction.

It's pointless worrying, just carry on and follow the advice that is given. I like others on here can remember TB, Polio, Asian Flu to name but three ghosts from the past. My mother had Diptheria in her teens and almost died, had she, of course, I wouldn't be here.

In my family, I have a son with Asthma, a Daughter who has reduced lung capacity due to a severe case of Pneumonia which almost killed her, a grandson with Cronic Asthma and my wife and I who are both over seventy. I'm concerned but have a plan in place for all the members of the family should any of us succomb to the virus.

Through out all this my family and I are determined to live a normal life as possible,
Take all the necessary precautions and CARRY ON.

This is simply NOT true - you are an idiot if they are your true thoughts on this. This virus is killing people of all ages many hundreds of them get your head out of the sand and open your eyes to what is happening right NOW !
And it’s just been confirmed that a new born baby has the virus!

We had a couple of guys round to fix our boiler yesterday. I guess they would have been in their mid forties. They were laughing it off as being just like flu and overhyped.
They were totally adamant that no one in the world had so far died of the disease who was not old or without underlying health issues.
I tried to put them straight, but they would not be told. Quite a worrying encounter all round really. They did manage to get the boiler going though.

The Chinese done it... made in a lab, to release in Hong Kong quell the unease/uprising

gone quiet in HK, or do we have other news?

Scared no, very cautious yes. For many years I've watched weather men wash their hands after using public loos and I'd say only 1 in 5 do, even if they've been in a cubicle (number 2's). I hope these 'unclean' ones are taking this seriously and have started being more hygienic! For clarity: I'm not a willy watcher and always use an end urinal!!

This kind of ignorance will be the main reason why it will continue to spread. There are still people believing you're more likely to die in a car crash and carrying on as normal.
Until it affects a friend or loved one, they'll carry on spreading it through their own uninformed pig headed beliefs.

On a positive note I see that 64,000 Chinese who contracted Coronavirus have recovered.
These kind of figures (and the deaths) are often bandied about on social media and seen as insignificant.
I'm sure the relatives of the thousands who have died have taken solace in the 64000 that have recovered.

Theres some clueless people around. Hopefully for lots it will be mild flu like symptoms which is where people say ahh its basically flu then.

No its not.

As seen from accounts on this thread of which im personally aware.

It's a much higher death rate than flu and can cause severe breathing issues for many more who are not just old or with health issues.

The issue is as more and more get it and overwhelm hospitals those wily mild cases who need attention and would have been fine may not be seen and get worse.

The issue is how contagious it is and it overwhelming us.

Plus the fact it's so dangerous for high risk groups which we all know someone. Only if it happens to them will some of these morons listen.

I don't think those with such views are "idiots" or have their heads up their arris's, they are simply not fully aware of the facts. And in fairness, there's a lot of confusing and contradictory information being put out (schools still open, some events allowed to continue etc). Now that public events, flights etc are being cancelled, they will realise the severity of the situation.

It’s in the newspapers. We’ll all probably get a form of it at some stage but I’d rather be a pint half full person than half empty like you

It's very scary, I'm 84 and MrsDP is 75 so we are listening to what is said and trying to be sensible about it.
We are both in pretty good health for our ages, but with the usual complaints which come with age. 😟

Was Fred Talbot one of them? 💋

They are Plumbers doing a job for you. Why did you feel the need to “put them right”?

To be fair Blood they were a couple of good lads, and we were putting the world to rights generally.
I don’t know where they had got their information from on the virus though because it was bollox and dangerous as well I would argue at the moment?
