I'd go further than that, actually. It's reached the World Cup as well. The 2018 tournament - what I saw of it anyway - was low on joy, and high on cynicism.
NaturallyIt's funny how people on here are so quick to to criticise but it draws me to that thread following last saturdays match and a Charltons fan reaction to our team last saturday. And then our fans reaction to him. Seems our fans were quite happy with events that went in our favour.
Not one single person has said they prefer Blackpool in the lower reaches. It doesnt mean you have to like the set up higher in the pyramid by aspiring to be there. I want my team to play as high in the pyramid as possible. I despise the manner in which that higher echelon conducts itself and actively seeks to prevent clubs like mine getting there.Phil made two separate statements. You're wrongly connecting them. The inverted snobbery comment has nothing to do with bandwagon jumpers etc.
Because there was nothing wrong with any of the referee's decisions. It's funny how people on here are so quick to to criticise but it draws me to that thread following last saturdays match and a Charltons fan reaction to our team last saturday. The Charlton fans said Stockley was onside. That's wrong by about a yard. That's not opinion, that's fact. The second penalty saw Watson kick Yates on the shin. Again, correct decision, not opinion. How he then goes to ground is completely irrelevant. Not in your opinion but clearly there was in the Charltons fan opinion. And it wasn't particularly about the ref but more the easy way Yates went down for the second penalty.
‘Slowly started’ - I quite soon began to think the whole league was a conspiracy when I was 6/7 years of age in 70-71 and when we returned there 10 years ago I was convinced - certainly away from home you played against 12 (or more) every week - remember Coward Webb at Blackburn and the lead up to their ‘equaliser’ - joke league, closed shop, management skill levels dubious (totally relies on out spending all opposition) or hovering up all the available talent a la Man City (@ adult level) or Moan Utd (@ junior level) so you can to stop your opponents having them like a game of chess - bring in transfer budgets, salary caps (I don’t care if they leave ) .......... look at how much those who don’t play get paid, local talent should stay local until 16 years of age (within 45 mins of facilities by public transport) & sensible all budget groundsWithout even going into the absurd money involved at that level, in the last few weeks I’ve started to hate watching premier league football.
I’m not sure whether it’s the frequency in which games are being played, the lack of fans, or something else, but I’m really struggling to enjoy most of the games I watch.
The Southampton vs Chelsea game yesterday was probably one of the worst games I’ve watched all season. Lack of quality in final third, pointless, aimless passing side to side, and neither side really trying to win in the final 20 minutes.
There seem to have been lots of games like this so far as well. Man United have drawn 0-0 with Arsenal, City and Liverpool despite having one of the best attacking set ups in the division imo.
It all just seems so tirelessly technical, to the point where it becomes frustrating to watch.
One of my mates is a blades fan, and he can’t wait to be back in the championship, and I can genuinely understand why. The only sides I’ve consistently enjoyed watching at that level are Leeds, Villa and Leicester. The rest are either forced to play dreadful football as a result of the huge financial gulf that exists between the top/bottom sides in the division, and most of the games I’ve watched between the the big boys seem to follow a pattern of ‘let’s completely out pass each other while it’s 0-0, and then depending on who scores first we’ll decide our style of play from there’.
Maybe I’ve just been watching too much football because there’s nothing else to do, or perhaps the game is suffering more than I realise without supporters, but atm most games at the top level in this country are absolutely dire to watch.
Again you're missing my point. I'm not interested in the refs decisions and whether they were right or wrong. My point was about the Charltons fan perception of us as a team and our antics and our reaction to them. And like i said also, re-visit the Portsmouth match day thread and see our fans commenting on their players diving, falling over easily, trying to con the ref etc. In other words these antics happen in L1 too, but they perhaps forget about that when it comes to having a dig at PL players. The Charlton fans said Stockley was onside. As for the sendings off, even Bowyer didnt mention the Pratley one. How's the appeal going for Aneke?
Unless you think we robbed them in which case you know nothing about football, which isnt the case.
It's double standards and sheer hypocrisy.Come off it Wiz thats a poor argument
We play the dark arts that you apparently hate so much in the EPL
Virtue and the reaction of Gabriel got Pratley sent off, Gabriel make the challenge for a start
And if an opposition player had of gone down like Yates did you would be the first to moan
Its football it happens and always has done, Charlie Adam, Keigan Parker, Wes etc etc all have dived for pens in recent seasons
I wish people would be honest and say they hate the EPL because they are jealous that we aren't in it

I find it rather disappointing that some members of the board seem unwilling to recognise and appreciate the skills of one half of the population.
Nope seriously Phil I hate it because it is so rigid and players are coached to within an inch. Maybe its me but I just don't find it exciting. Obviously if Pool were in it I would have a personal interest in it but not for another couple of years :DCome off it Wiz thats a poor argument

Not really Phil. When we made it to the prem I found the experience of being surrounded by an instant army of newbie happy clappers (where are they now?) a bit tedious to say the least, but not half as tedious as the antics of some of the opposition players and managers. The latter has become even worse since and I've just come to the conclusion that it's not for me. If we do somehow ever make it back of course I'll be as pleased as the next loyal fan, but for a matchday experience for all sorts of reasons I'd personally rather go to Bolton or Rochdale than the Emirates.Come off it Wiz thats a poor argument

Made a clean tackle and had his throat grabbed by the opposition player. Dark arts? What were you watching?Come off it Wiz thats a poor argument
