That’s great walking territoryNo overnight stays anywhere but done some lovely walks. Did a lovely seven miler yesterday along the River Ribble and around Stoneyhurst College and then some nice food in the Shireburn Arms at Hurst Green.
Thanks, I'll look it up. Seem to have a 1001 walking books so I'm sure there'll be walk around there in one of the books. Did have an eight miler planned for tomorrow but we've put that off til Friday. Just a short walk thru the two woods and along the "Green" of Lytham for tomorrow now. That’s great walking territory
I’ve visited the Shireburn Arms a few times. If you’re that way again the Aspinall Arms near Whalley is fab, massive outdoor space next to the river too.
I’m off this week and intend to up the steps with sone relaxing walks
Brilliant! So good for the mind and bodyThanks, I'll look it up. Seem to have a 1001 walking books so I'm sure there'll be walk around there in one of the books. Got the coming week off. Playing golf tomorrow (Cavendish, Buxton)and Friday (Harrogate) and probably over to Blackpool at some stage to catch up with family.Even mini break or day out since lockdown?
I’m off to Manchester by train on Tuesday, mask at the ready testing the waters.
Anyone else had a trip just for pleasure and leisure yet?
I bet you bloody are! EnjoyGot the coming week off. Playing golf tomorrow and Friday and probably over to Blackpool at some stage to catch up with family.
More than ready for a break from work.
They probably assume we will be desperate to get away after this year and they will be desperate to make up losses.Priced holidays up for next year ( abroad ) , and can’t believe how much the prices have been hiked up.
I thought with all this carry on holiday resorts would be desperate to encourage holiday makers back.
i can’t justify paying in excess of 3k for a week in Spain.....we’ll save our money and treat the kids to Disneyland Florida when they are a little older, which they’ll remember forever for the equivalent of 3 beach holidays instead
In the meantime spend the next few years in our fabulous little Island
It’s having a 6 and 4 year old in tow that escalates our price, as it’s advantageous for all inclusive packages for them. They probably assume we will be desperate to get away after this year and they will be desperate to make up losses.
Many nations didn’t have a furlough package or financial support as generous as the UK and their tourism industry will be shouldering massive losses and hardship.
I’ve priced up my own little Shirley Valentine trip to Crete for next year. Small deposit, reasonable monthly payments.Packing already
Totally get that! It’s having a 6 and 4 year old in tow that escalates our price, as it’s advantageous for all inclusive packages for them.
As much as I miss holidaying at any given time when it was just the two of us ,(and not be restricted to term times) and happily going room only ( rather than all inclusive ) , I wouldn’t change our situation for the world.
On top of that , Jet2 have now pulled all planes out of Newcastle airport ( our nearest ), so bang goes any chance of relative cheap flights.
But the bucket and spade trips will make their day, so all’s good.Totally get that!
It all seems dead cheap to me now travelling alone and no longer paying for 2 kids aswell.
I feel your pain
I did the same and then looked into Cornwall, Devon , Wales and Scarborough and the prices for a cottage were ridiculous so going to give it a miss this year and save the money for another time.Priced holidays up for next year ( abroad ) , and can’t believe how much the prices have been hiked up.

Just got back from three days hiking with mates in the Cotswolds based in Winchcombe
Stayed in a pub there
Splendid it was - though after 60m I am feeling it today
A rather more sedate week cruising the Thames with family beckons in the first week in August
Not sure I am going to get down that far - starting in Benson just south of OxfordWe'll look out for you on the Kingston stretch TAM...

Sounds goodNo summer holiday for us this year. Instead hiking Hadrian's Wall path with my lads 15 August Bowness on Solway to Wallsend over 6 days.
Trying to find accommodation en route has been painful with the uncertainties around the lockdown but we're sorted now.
Hoping for dry weather and Westerly winds.
Overnights in Carlisle, Gilsland, Once Brewed, Wall and Heddon on the Wall.
We did the Tolkein trail in February, it was like The Somme.Sorry not used to this site. We did Tolkien walk a couple weeks ago. Beautiful scenic walk.
It varies TAM. I've tried to book accommodation near the path, don't want to be walking for 15 miles then trudge another 4 miles to a remote B&B and 4 miles back to the path in the morning.Sounds good
How many miles are you planning per day ?
Best start saving up for travel insurance. It'll be through the roofThey probably assume we will be desperate to get away after this year and they will be desperate to make up losses.

Think you are right not to do more than 14m per dayIt varies TAM. I've tried to book accommodation near the path, don't want to be walking for 15 miles then trudge another 4 miles to a remote B&B and 4 miles back to the path in the morning.
Bowness to Carlisle is 14.5 on the flat. Day 2 is the killer,18 miles to Gilsland, last 6 miles mainly uphill.
Rest of the walk is 12 miles a day. Always wanted to do this but never got round to it so 2020 provides the ideal opportunity.
If it stays dry should be great fun.
First now in 2 weeks is darn sarf see all family, youngest getting married at the tiniest wedding ever, their local council still being very awkward.
Week booked in a cottage on Skye end Sept.
In the meantime, if anyone wants a holiday in the Highlands, we are totally open from this week, scenery beautiful, weather great (), whisky awesome, seafood to die for and we need your money

Absolutely not, just the usual publicity seeking nobs you find anywhereAnd here’s me thinking Nippy’s Blueshirt foot soldiers anti Anglo racists didn’t want visitors crossing border!
Aviemore, jewel of the CairngormsWhere are you Moss?
