APPLETON has killed our atmosphere

He looks clueless and players seem to be going backwards under him.
Fans have turned, and most I speak to have to admit his time is up.
Why is our best goalkeeper on the bench.
Crowd, and one of the best last season are now flat like the team.
If the board want an engaged fan base then MA has to go.

Problem is Mansford has become the bad guy because he has made some appalling decisions and errors which has deflected from how poor Appleton has been. Another poor decision from Mansford was not getting shut of him before the break.

He definitely killed any positivity after the break yesterday with his comments.

I’m not wanting to be negative but he’s making us.
I'm struggling with it at the moment. I've been clinging to the good bits where we looked like a good attacking football team, but the longer we go on looking like a formless thing with no real plan, the more fleeting and distant those moments seem.

I think as a fanbase, we're basically just struggling with the realisation that we're actually Rotherham and that being Rotherham means you cannot fuck up a transfer window and get away with it.

Meh.

Never wanted Appleton back, but…Would a new manager suddenly heal all of our injured players?
He has clearly lost the inspiration of the players and a new manager with impetus will instil some confidence.

So many things wrong. Lightweight midfield three against four in the middle. Forwards always looking backwards, never leaving someone up from corners etc….

If the board want a successful team, they need to invest money.

Swings and roundabouts.

Chatted with various fans coming in work this week, all excited to be back at the game. That was completely deflated yesterday by MA. Just a lack of awareness saying it’s “worse than before the break”. Negative snd depressing.

I’ve tried to defend him as much as possible, found his honesty refreshing but the situation we’re in, he’s not that guy to inspire the team out of it. Nobody wanted him and it shows.

Rightly or wrongly this is reflected in the atmosphere. Dead as.

I know he’s not popular but you cant deny the players aren’t still playing for him. We got better the longer the game went on so this isn’t on the manager it’s the namby pamby modern football fan who doesn’t support his team when it’s most needed. SS must feel like packing it in the whining that goes on. Birmingham are a big city club with a huge fan base and they couldn’t beat us today.

Forget that it’s Birmingham though. We are shite every week.

You’re definitely describing our players lack of confidence. No one wants to make a mistake, nor take responsibility. We do need a change.

It’s perfectly fine to not turn up if you disagree with how things are at the moment.

It’s not exactly exciting is it?

I renewed my season ticket on the basis of watching the team fight for every point and on the basis of having a manager that has a slim connection with the fans.

And then Appleton turned up as manager…

I’m not forcing myself to watch the crap that is dished up every week with a manager that has the personality of a shovel (which is harsh on shovels as they’re actually useful at their job) who for once has taken his hands out of his pockets for the first time this season to drink some coffee.

Yep, that thought did cross my mind but if it was it wasn’t the right time and negated the fact it depleted the majority of the fanbase by saying it.
I think what he's probably trying to do is keep fans off the players backs in a way. I.e. he knows he's got a threadbare squad of kids and a poorly Gaz - so if he talks up the game, then the backlash is more likely that if he talks it down. That's the best I can do to explain it in my own head as it was a weird thing to say. He's trying to manage the expectation, but he's succeeded in damping down that atmosphere to a point where it's just muted grumbling and sighing...

I think his position is untenable, the supporters are now almost completely against him, the injuries aren't improving and he was completely shafted by the 2 people who employed him. He never had a chance and in hindsight it was a ridiculous, inexperienced and arrogant appointment by Sadler. I can't see MA being here by the end of next week but his replacement has to be someone a bit decent, someone the supporters can get behind and believe in and if it means poaching a manager from another club then he needs to do that.

I would love Ollie back but sadly it would be too divisive again with the supporters, but someone like Evo and Thommo (Thommo HAS to be part of the coaching staff and then someone like Keith Southern, that would galvanise the supporters. But, Sadler then has to stop pissing about and pay the players the manager wants the going wages for a Championship team. If you want to play with the big boys then you need to be able to compete with them, otherwise fuck off and sell the club to someone who will. We haven't got time for a vanity project. He didn't save us, Belokon and the legal system saved us. Sadler bought us for a bargain price, and he said at the time he was mad for doing so. I thank him for what he has done, but he isn't the super hero so many are brainwashed into thinking.

He needs to act now, we need a manager that will unite the supporters and the players and he needs to get the players in that the new manager wants. Bridcutt and Ward FFS!! If he can do that or is willing to do that then that may change my mind, but as it stands I remain underwhelmed.

Damping Matt? he is using a wrecking ball.....

I for one don't blame anyone for not going at the moment. I still go but I have no enthusiasm at all.
Plenty of St holders didn't turn up today 4 in my row, other things become more attractive than watching a clueless manager and a team without a shot on target.
As a manager you need to inspire your team and those around you and quite plainly MA doesn't.
A few of the fans above are long standing fans who are allowed to vote with their feet if they don't like the football on offer
