Appleton in or out

Should Appleton be sacked now or allowed to carry on?

As someone else posted elsewhere, I would like to know what the players think.
If they are still behind him then with a bit of strengthening maybe we will stay up, which is all that matters now I would think.
If they don’t then he really needs to be replaced before the window opens, but have we got the time to get someone else in before it is too late?

I have not been calling for Appleton to be sacked but,
What happens if we bring in players and as a team we perform as we did first half?
What then?
I have seen some poor displays but that first half they really looked like they weren't playing for their manager.

was underwhelmed at his appointment, but thought he might have been a slightly left field appointment who could build on the previous seasons successes. but from the moment he came in he seems to have done his best to not build on the past work but rather throw it all out and start again, and im always suspicious of that.

He has taken all of the feel good factor out of the club, and it seems taken anything the players had in terms of confidence and the ability to go toe to toe with opposition teams as well. We are almost always on the back foot. almost every game we start and spend the first 45 mins looking like a team that has just been pulled together at the last minute.

Yes sack him now, weve only got 2 weeks till the transfer window, bring a new man in , tell the the Coventry lads to wait till the new man comes in, he'll want his players wont he,. The Board will just love that, everything will run smoothly cus it does'nt matter who comes in just sack Appleton that will keep the fans happy.

I've been willing to give him a fair chance and was quite happy with his appointment, never understood the reaction to it, but looking back now, I can probably think of 4-5 times this season I have left the game thinking 'That was one of the worst performances I have ever seen from a Blackpool team'

It can't be a coincidence I suppose...

Out immediately for me. Not one player has improved and some are clearly badly regressing. Patino will be recalled at this rate, he is suddenly looking bang average and that tells you everything. Should have been potted after Wigan, we have wasted five weeks in my view, now stop pissing around and get him binned !

That should definitely be the nail in his coffin then, cause even a clown like u can see

The games post the world cup interlude were for many (me included) - a make or break situation.
Come out all guns blazing and take 4 points from 2 games with a refreshed and coached squad - and bingo, corner turned .......OR ........
Get worse, look even less coached and demotivated.
We got the latter - has to go before it's too late.

If anyone thinks that was a good point yesterday are deluded, unbeaten in 2 matches - (2 points out of 6) is relegation material. That tackle from Madine was out of frustration more than anything else. If anyone thinks the players are playing for the manager - give it a rest, that was the most dour first half I have seen from a Pool Team, ok it improved a little but we were lucky to get a point. The manager plays the same formation week after week despite piss poor results. If we don’t change anything we are sleepwalking back to League 1.

Chizzy said he was concerned about the players body language at the end of the first half - looking lost!

I was there yesterday and these are my sentiments too. That first half was woeful and on another day we’d be down 3-0 by HT.

I have supported him and will carry on supporting him while he is in the chair. Do I think he should still be there ,probably not , but he is. So ,if he can turn it round then that's great ,if he can't and he is replaced .I don't think thats good for the club ,but I would support the next guy . I don't support managers ,I support Blackpool.

2 draws & no wins in 6 games - 2 points from 18, reads even more worrying!
Draws won't get us away from the bottom, everyone with a football brain says that.
Also, when you're in the shoi*e something has to change & quickly, either the players or the manager or both!

The vote so far is pretty damming, which reflects our current form
- We have managed 4 shots on target in the last 4 games
- We have scored twice and conceded 8 and only picked up 2 points in our last 6 games
- He has lost the fans, generating negative chanting away and a totally flat atmosphere at home

I never wanted him as our manager, but I was prepared to give him a chance. However, it just hasn't worked and I don't think it ever will. So for me we must cut our losses and move on to a new chapter.

Brilliant post @Tiptree Tangerine and it's where I think we are. It's the fact the football is as bad as the results. Under Critchley, even during that bad run when he first came, you could see the potential .. if anything under Appleton even taking in to considerations the injuries, we look a lot worse!

Sacked.

I just can't see him ever turning fans around, it'll always be relatively flat with him here.

He's had a tough hand, bad injuries, we've been unlucky but also have at times with plenty out there, been completely disorganised and unmotivated, which is on him.

I don't think he will be sacked though as then we have the same issue as last summer, new guy in to assess the squad which takes time but also buy players.

Unless the new recruitment are just recruiting 'a Blackpool player' anyway.

Problem is if he stays and has input on transfers and then is potted, again not ideal.

Also as mentioned, if he stays we're not a club together and being all we can be.

Will we stay up without fans players and staff united? It'll be a lot harder.

Bit of a mess. But this is what happens when the board completely go against fan wishes, get someone in who wasn't wanted or liked, then don't back him well and we have a bad season.

Regardless of who is there we should always back the team fully.

Let’s hope bullshit Ben reads this board and see’s 80% of the fans want him out.
tbh if they read this place they are more likely to keep him. I think players look on here and will have gathered the depth of the Anti- Appleton movement and such a mood is likely to carry forward with them more.

Even a good Christmas say 7/9 won't turn many fans around.

Let’s see how we perform against Hull and Sheffield United.
It will be a toxic atmosphere in front of Sky TV cameras if we lose both.
The board will have little choice but to sack him.

Boxing day is normally horrible for us. Think 2006 was our last win.

Possibly.

People said that about the break and must get something at Wigan or hrs gone and he wasn't.

That's another point, we need to have a good festive period, which never usually happens.

They may have to get rid then but we'd then feel the boat was missed with the wc break.

Just a mess all round, been some poor manager choices 2/3 lacked inspiration and imagination, plus an understanding of what fans want and what would excite people to attend.

Poor summer, poor decision on prices, poor appointment, missing the time to get rid if we were going to after he lost fans.

I'm sorry to say that the board seem to have got a fair bit wrong.

I think he’s a better manager than when he first came here (although, the circumstances are of course, different).

However, I just don’t think it’s working. We need someone who has previously never managed us before. The football is getting more uninspiring and the fans have turned.

In defence of our current form, I have cited injuries and not getting battered in previous results. However, we now just don’t even seem to approach the oppositions penalty box with any intent. I think our players have the ability to keep us up. I don’t think the manager does.

We need a balance between the badge patting of Critchley and the pragmatism of MA…

He should be gone. That much is clear. Poor results, no sign of an identity, no relationship with the fans. With our luck though we will finally get rid of him, be rumoured to be interested in some good up and coming coaches and then go for someone like Paul Ince. 😅

I think he should be given a chance.

He's done quite well so far, considering who we are, and considering how competitive the league is this year.

At half time on Saturday I thought it was such a poor performance that we were in for a comprehensive defeat. That could have well been the end of the road for Appleton but somehow we managed to regroup and get a point. It's difficult to see how things might turn around, the next two games could well decide his future.

Well, he's going to be manager against Hull and that is a big big game. If he plays 4-4-2 with CJ and Poveda and we get a result we're out of the bottom 3. Think we should get behind the team for this one and put this aside for 90 minutes.

Jeez, I've disagreed with you so much recently and I struggle to fathom why you fail to see a manager and a team that is desperately struggling and needs quality players rather than injured players who basically aren't good enough anyway. But you are spot on, we don't support managers, we support Blackpool FC.

Who we are? He's not done well. Only a handful of decent performances, a lot have looked disorganised.

Far too many times we've looked awful in a half, come out like shit or at times the whole game.

It was a joke "considering who we are" and having no idea how "competitive the league would be this year" are both Appleton lines (excuses). It's sad that there isn't a sarcasm button on avftt.
