Bartons court case starts tomorrow

Must be one of the longest running ,' trials about to happen' I can think of

Was just thinking about it being in a Crown court-was it a crown that was allegedly knocked out during the incident?

Don't be totally surprised if he gets sent down if he gets found guilty, his form doesn't make pretty reading.

It makes me wonder what verdict Bristol Rovers want? A guilty verdict will probably mean they can get rid of the irritating little toad without compensation having failed to have any sort of impact in their relegation fight.

The jury was sworn in earlier. Amongst the questions they had to clear was whether they had watched the match or supported either of the teams!

Ex-footballer Joey Barton caused serious facial injuries when he pushed over a rival manager after a tense 4-2 defeat, a court has heard.
Mr Barton, 38, boss of League One side Fleetwood at the time, is accused of chasing Daniel Stendel into the tunnel at Barnsley's Oakwell Stadium.
Once inside, Sheffield Crown Court heard, the defendant shoved the German in the back and caused him to tumble into the structure.
Mr Barton denies a charge of assault.
Prosecutor Ian Goldsack told jurors there had been tensions between the two sides when they met earlier in the season at Fleetwood, including a handshake that Mr Stendel "took to be an intimidatory gesture".

'Provocative celebrations'

These tensions carried on into the match at Barnsley seven months later, the prosecutor said, and the defendant had confronted Mr Stendel both during the match and after the final whistle.
After the defeat, Mr Goldsack said, Mr Barton was "still very worked up" and used some foul language towards Mr Stendel, which he "did not fully understand but realised he was being insulted". As players and staff left the pitch, Mr Goldsack said, the defendant ran past a number of people and entered the tunnel behind Mr Stendel.
"Mr Stendel felt a push from behind and fell forward, hitting his face against that tunnel structure. He was knocked to the ground and when he looked up he saw the defendant passing him," he said.
"He believed him to be responsible for what happened."

He suggested the defendant's mood "was perhaps not helped" by the previous defeat, a player being sent off "just after it looked as though Fleetwood might get back in the game" and "provocative celebrations" upon Barnsley's third goal by first team coach Christopher Stern.
Jurors were shown photographs of Mr Stendel's injuries, the most serious of which included a dislodged upper right incisor and associated nerve damage.
They were also shown video footage of Mr Barton running into the tunnel behind Mr Stendel, followed by the structure shaking. Further footage showed a bloodied Mr Stendel being helped back to the changing room.
Mr Goldsack said jurors must decide "whether Mr Stendel fell forwards in that tunnel area, colliding with the tunnel structure and thereby sustaining those injuries, as the result of an unlawful assault and, if he did, whether it was Mr Barton who is responsible for that assault".

Daniel Stendel, pictured in September 2019, felt Mr Barton had behaved in an "intimidatory" manner at a previous fixture
Earlier, 12 jurors were selected after being asked questions including "have you heard of Joey Barton?" and "do you have any opinions about Joey Barton?"
Potential jurors were also asked whether they were at the match or watched it on TV and also whether they were Barnsley or Fleetwood Town supporters.
The jury has been told that Mr Stendel will give evidence by videolink from Germany on Tuesday.

Interesting to read they asked jurors if they were Barnsley or Fleetwood fans.

Could be a few amongst the Blades supporters and of course the 70 million Sheff Weds fans living in the city 😁

He may get off if there aren’t any actual eye witnesses. The CCTV cameras don’t seem to have recorded the actual incident. JB will claim it was an accident even if seen. Not proven beyond reasonable doubt etc.

I’m sure there was eye witnesses reported at the time as he ran down the tunnel past players and pushed stendel

He has an excellent defence barrister representing him.
In addition despite his record this is a push from behind in a tunnel allegedly that caused the injuries.
We are not talking a kick punch or headbutt which would make it very different

Think it was more a knock from behind as he ran past rather than a direct push. The only Fleetwood witness was the physio and he backed Joey up on this as well 👍🏼

My money is on not guilty. If there is no cctv and no witnesses to the push, even the victim didn't see who pushed him, then I can't see how they can convict however much we'd like him to be guilty.

I suggest you watch again or go to specsavers, yes Will ( nice lad, don’t know why you have to be rude about him) was doing his job, but pilley did not come out of the ground or get in the car with joey.
The Fleetwood physio backed Barton up ??? Come on ..... For a time there he could behave however he wanted and they all rallied round until it started to cost money. Horrible thug.

So JB just 'rushed past' Stendel, but accidentally brushed him against the wall (or whatever it was).
Ahem, 'Just rushed past him'? A likely story. 😉

On some old thread on here, many months ago, I did say that this was likely to be a Not Guilty. the only real evidence against him is that nobody likes him; and that is not going to be enough-

but he shook his hand very firmly in the season before - won't that be enough? - not really. But Stendel knew that somebody had pushed him, and JB was quite close by - won't that be enough? not really. But JB went into the tunnel after Stendel went in - doesn't that prove it? Prove what?

In the unlikely event of being found Guilty he will probably get no more than some hours of community service, but it now already looks far more likely that British justice will prevail and JB will leave the hearing as an innocent man without a stain on his character.

I still don’t understand the hatred towards Barton .

He’s made mistakes . Not the only one in this world .

When JB was sacked by Pilley, Pilley came onto TV to say that they were parting company as good friends and did so WITH A FIRM HANDSHAKE - [which Stendel says was aggressive behaviour by Barton when he shook Barton's hand].

Will Mr. Pilley be asked to give evidence?

Why doesn't Stendel come over here to give evidence and be grilled in the box? instead of keeping out of the way in Germany? Doesn't he fancy it?

Unfortunately these days if you say what you think you get criticised.

He spoke out against Oyston I cant recall him saying anything bad about our club at any time.

Not a cat in hells chance of any conviction unless there were any witnesses or CCTV evidence and if there was neither, it should never have even got to court!

Not a bad forecast Waddington, 5 months ago.
