BBC Sports Personality of the Year

For me

1. Stokes
2. O'Sullivan
3. Mead

On BBC radio this morning they announced the line up and then played a clip from Jake Wightman, who happened to be a woman. The presenter Rachel Burden said nowt until her co-presenter questioned whether that was Jake speaking. Overall a mediocre line up. So Ben Stokes is a clear winner.

Crap format these days being told who to vote for. But of the list Stokes and Lionesses to win team of the year.

Stokes for me too for the transformation in cricket but would think any of the women's England team too.

Mead was top scorer at the euros. Muirhead won an Olympic gold medal. The gymnast, the athlete & O’Sullivan are world champs. Stokes has changed cricket so a decent list. Agree Fitzpatrick should be on the shortlist but then the US Open wasn’t on the BBC.

The BBC gave me my love of golf and have now completely abandoned it. Fitzpatrick should be on that list and there's also a case for Mcllroy.

McIroy won 2 majors in the same year in 2014 and still didn't win SPOTY.

Westwood said at the time, "You'll just have to win 3 next year, it's not hard".

I hadn't heard of two of them, to be honest.

I'm pretty sure Stokes will win it, but it would be nice if Mead or Muirhead did.

I'm genuinely amazed that you haven't heard of two of them Robbie.

I won't pretend I've heard of the gymnast but I thought you were in to your track and field ?

Agreed, but rugby league never wins anything.

The Sports Personality of the Year for me would be Kevin Sinfield. A real personality and a brilliant sportsman.

Wiz

I couldn't give a chite about the team of the year award and apologies for my sarcastic posts on this thread.

On Kevin Sinfield, I couldn't agree with you more.

He won't win SPOTY but I wouldn't be surprised to see him or Rob Burrow or both of them win the Helen Rollason award, although it's not really about that award.

It would have been easy for Burrow to feel sorry for himself after falling victim to such a terrible disease but he has remained positive throughout and continued to raise funds and awareness as his condition has deteriorated.

Sinfield has been amazing in his support of his pals fight.

Only the other week on his latest challenge, a relative of another MND sufferer asked him if he could meet the sufferer on route, he explained that he wouldn't be able to stop for long and he arranged to meet the sufferer.

The sufferer met him on route him and told Sinfield that he couldn't thank him enough, Sinfield gave him a big hug and told him, "You owe me nothing, keep fighting", before having to run off and his support team helped the sufferer.

I do feel that they throw knighthoods out to sports stars like confetti these days but I wouldn't have any problem with them knighting Sinfield for his selfless efforts.

I'll get back to you if I can be arsed googling them.

I'm with you all the way Razzle, apologies for my sarcasm.

I agree with you that he should have been shortlisted.

Saying that, you have to be honest about golfs profile these days, I would imagine most folk wouldn't recognise Fitzpatrick if he slapped them on the face in the middle of the high street.

Personally, I'd shortlist anybody who wins the US Open golf in any year and thirty years ago anybody who did so would have been automatically shortlisted - the SPOTY format has changed since then and there was no shortlisting in those days but you know what I mean - but nowadays that's clearly not the case.

Agreed. The fact that all of the top golf events, majors/ryder cup etc are on Sky doesn't help raise the profile either.

SPOTY was once a must watch but I've not bothered last few years tbh.

I didn't think it was too bad this year to be fair.

The young gymnast came across as a pleasant young lass and all the disabled rugby league guys seemed good eggs.

Rob Burrow is a warrior and Sinfield is a gentleman.

First time I've watched for years. Only just read this thread or I could have told you all the winners this morning.
On the tear jerking stuff with Rob Burrows what an awful disease and what a hero Kevin Sinfield is.
