just reading the comments on The Ashes thread. So whats the best sporting event you have attended not inc football ?
For me the 2016 Masters. Was lucky to attend both the Sat and Sunday. The whole place is simply stunning and unforgettable. To see Willett win was the icing on the cake. If ever you get the chance, go.

I went on a company freebie to Headingley for that match on that day, was it 15 wickets? Totally jammy and an amazing day

Le Mans. Brilliant event. Went twice in the 80s. Great camerardarie in the campsites, every tent seemed to have a classic car outside. Exciting watching the cars come down the Mulsanne straight in the night and take the exit turn. Especially when one Mazda went on fire right in front of us and the driver had to leap out fast. Then we all climbed over the wall and ran down the track to the finish line at 4 pm. The winning car only just made it over before being surrounded..I seem to recall it was the year Jaguar returned. 30,000 Brits were there.

Good shout Loco. You will remember my brother Chris. He did Le Mans a couple of years back. Stayed up all night and loved it. Gets his vote.

Ashes 1st test at Trent Bridge a few years back. Went to the final day and England ended up winning by 20 odd runs when it looked like Australia were gonna chase it down

Also the 2012 world snooker championship where Ronnie O’Sullivan beat Ali Carter at The Crucible

Obviously led a very sheltered life. Can't think of any really. All being mainly football.
Went to a few one day Lancashire matches at Old Trafford in the seventies but nothing stands out.
In a way I feel that apart from football I'm prepared to sacrifice the atmosphere of "being there" for the up close view and analysis that you get from tv. Golf and cricket being obvious examples.

I won corporate hospitality for the 2007 Tour De France Prologue in London in 2007, didn't really have a clue what was going on but the free, unlimited Lanson Black label champagne and other alcoholic beverages all day and two nights in a very nice hotel made it memorable..............up to a point anyway 🤣

I've been to several Lancashire finals at Lords but probably watching Lancs win the T20 Finals day at Edgbaston in 2015.

Took my dad to see Ricky Hatton fight at the M.E.N for his 70th birthday. He’s a big boxing fan and was a cop in central Manchester in the late 60’s - some of his old drinking haunts afterwards were a bit tasty!!!!

I'm not a big boxing fan but went to the Tyson fight at the MEN in 2000 which was a great night. The Tyson fight was a joke but both Ricky Hatton & Joe Calzaghe were on the undercard.

Golf for me. Mens and Womens Opens at Lytham and Birkdale.

Tour de France

Commonwealth games Manchester.

Lame compared to some of AVFTT's globe trotters.

Was only 11 at the time but Seve winning the Open at Royal Lytham.

£2 entry on the Monday on the first day of summer holidays. Sat in the stand on the 18th all day before his chip to within a foot to win the trophy.

Was in Chicago for Christmas two years ago and met up with an old schoolmate for drinks and dinner with a Blackhawks ice hockey game thrown in. He is the squash pro at a country club and one of his clients let us have his tickets on the half way line. I went with low expectations but was blown away by the whole experience, it was absolutely brilliant! The highlight was a player called Kane getting a hat trick and loads of fans threw their caps onto the ice and the game stopped whilst they were swept of the ice!

Cheltenham a few times, Aintree for the Grand National, plus a few Grand Finals in Rugby League.

All great sporting occasions.

The 2015 Rugby League Grand Final in Sydney. Best game I've ever seen. North Queensland Cowboys v Brisbane Broncos. We (Cowboys) won it 17-16 in extra time with z golden point field goal by Johnathan Thurston. Sublime.

I several times enjoyed the boxing at the Winter Gardens in the early sixties, most had Brian London on the card.
I have also enjoyed a couple of AFL games at the MCG. Over ninety thousand at one game.

Missed out on a ticket for the cricket World Cup Final last year. Had it in my basket when a limited few went on sale on the Barmy Army site, even got to checkout but on payment it hung and crashed.

Aside from that, probably being at the Cape Town test to see Stokes 250 in 2016. Not the greatest Test in itself but up there with the best innings I'll ever see.

1975 Lancashire v Gloucestershire. Gillette Cup Semifinal at Old Trafford. I'm certain that Peter Lever bowled a maiden in their final over. There was a major groan when Clive Lloyd only scored a single before getting caught on the boundary trying to hit a 'six.' It all looked lost until a brilliant stand by King David Hughes and Flat Jack Simmons turned the game around in our favour during the late evening gloom of yet another rain affected match.
