The big difference between USA2020 and UK2016 is that in the latter the eventual winners told a lot of lies and played on people's prejudices to get their victory. So for people to view the two votes as being broadly analogous isn't really all that surprising, is it? Dog whistle populism is exactly what it says on the tin, no matter where it is.

If we held a second referendum every time that occurred you’d never have a final outcome.
The electorate still decide what they choose to believe and what they believe in.
That’s democracy.

I completely disagree. The problem on the Remain side was not that they told lies. It was that they completely failed to articulate the economic argument for staying in the EU. Their sins were almost wholly of omission.

Of course... No lies whatsoever..

It was the liars on the pro side
The failure of remain to adequately convey the message
The stupidity and low education standards of the pro-Brexit voters (not to mention their racist tendencies)

It couldn’t possibly be the fact that we had a vote and rational and irrational decisions were made on either side, in equal measure, resulting in a democratic outcome that we should all respect.

Quite a few actually.
Not as many as Brexiteers but a few good porkies. All added to that heavy brew of misinformation.
