Blackburn v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 21.02.23

Blackburn rovers are placed in fourth place in the league, and they from memory created only two clear chances. We created only half chances,
I didn't think there was much between the two teams tonight, and a draw would probably have been a fair result. Our fate will not be decided by how we play against the teams at the top trying for promotion, it will be about how we play against the teams in the middle especially when they have nothing to play for. Mick is obviously rotating the available players but the team is not lacking in effort, and hopefully the result will start to improve.

Well you must have watched a completely different game to the one I have just got back from - we were shite and Blackburn, although not a great side were superior in every single department. As Stoke were on Saturday although we managed to get the 3 points on that occasion.

Don’t forget that Rovers had their 3 best players missing tonight — Brereton-Diaz, Bradley Dack and Scott Wharton plus their best defender Ayala had to come off at half time.
We were relegated as soon as they failed to sack Appleton after the Wigan match.

Or maybe we were relegated as soon as Appleton was appointed manager
Appleton never lost 3 consecutive away Championship games, McCarthy achieved it in his first three away games,

Between West Brom away and Wigan away 4 consecutive defeats.🤷

Just back and that was worse than dreadful, I exclude Nelson from any criticism and possibly Gabriel. Maxwell's distribution, ffs leathering it in the general direction of Poveda for some inexplicable reason. In fact thinking about he was probably aiming for Gabriel but missing.
Carey looks absolutely knackered and frankly not good enough, Patino might as well go back to Arsenal right now. Thompson and CJ, words fail me,I've defended CJ at times but the pair of them, 3 touches to control a ball.
I could go on but it's pointless, there's a way to go down and it's not by playing like this Mr McCarthy.
Give Apter and Holmes a chance, they couldn't do any worse.

I’d rather support and encourage permanent players than a bunch of kids playing on loan learning their trade and nowhere near good enough.
what are you on about? I don't care if they are on loan from barca or from the youth team, if you're not good enough you're not good enough!!

We’re you actually at the game ? That was abysmal ,I’m actually speechless as to how bad we were .
Yes I was and I have been at some this season equally as bad, that was my whole point. However saying that I won’t see any more games as bad, away at least, as the furthest I will be going this season is Bloomfield Road.

I'd agree it's not looking very good ATM. We need a fit Stewart or Bridcutt back & Trybull but I think he's out for a long while, these may come too late if at all. I was dreading Yates picking up an injury as he seems to be the only one who may get back to scoring, he seemed subdued from the off for me. Tonight Blackburn had the better of a few chances & they managed to stifle us going forward also we probably could have used Madine tonight. We looked a little better when Fiorini played on Saturday & I'm not sure he was rested or a reoccurrence of an injury or even a new one. We all know what's wrong & the longer we go without picking up a few wins the harder it gets. I've not given up yet though.

Yes and our loan players are not good enough. My point is why single out Thompson when for example Patino, Carey, etc were 10 times worse. The performance was that embarrassing, the whole team collectively should be slated.

And nor should we give up, way too many people writing the season off. Fair enough we have been poor and the odds are against us, but to give in, is quite frankly pathetic. We are never going to win every game, we just have to keep trying to win as many as we can. I've already forgotten about the Rovers game and focusing on Reading hoping Yates and Fiorini are available. I'm certain we need Madine to play the way McCarthy wants. We're Blackpool we never do things the easy way and quite often best when written off.

Maybe we should keep our strongest team for the potentially winnable games and when we come up against the top teams or teams in form just literally park the bus.

When the team was playing well Yates was scoring.
Jerry Yates has only scored goal(s) in 6 Championship games so far this season, he scored 7 of his 9 Championship goals in the month of October and has not scored a Championship goal for 4 months. Under McCarthy, Yates has run himself into the ground and has had a few chances but these days he never looks like he is going to score a goal.

it was you that singled him out originally saying he is good and you don't know why people give him shit. He's not good. I agree though, no one can come out of last night with any plaudits except maybe Nelson for his endeavor. The center midfielders are not good enough and due to recruitment/injuries etc we are left with two young lads there that should be fringe players if we are being honest.

I was livid that Yates was left on for the full 90 against Stoke. He was clearly knackered & Lavery could have pressed them just the same for the last 30.

McCarthy has converted Yates from a striker who should get 15 goals a season in the Championship to a workhouse who runs around often on his own trying to close down defenders and the goalkeeper. There was talk of £5M offers for Yates in October & November but he is probably only worth a 10th of that today. I also think that the energy Yates is expending every match affects his composure when a chance to score a goal comes late in the game e.g. Rotherham at home in that mad 3 minutes at the end of the match. This is yet another example of how McCarthy is not using our players’ strengths e.g. Yates main contribution to the team should be both scoring and assisting goals, he is the best we have got in the squad.

Good part of that is he might stay next season :)

Appleton played him as a striker come right wing back

Rotherham? Hull? Wigan? Huddersfield Haven't we lost or drawn to all of these teams recently? Lol.

Can't gain points on sides around you.

Jerry must have done very well then from right wing back to score 10 goals under Appleton in the first half the season. At the end of October under Appleton, Jerry was top goal scorer in the Championship. How many goals do you think Jerry will score under McCarthy, no goals in 7 games so far with 13 games to go?
