Blackpool are preparing a ‘significant’ offer for Embleton

A tough one. He's certainly not totally convinced me that he's good enough. But that's it with a lot of young players, they take time to develop and sometimes not all of them do. But when it comes down to it, we have to rightly trust Critchley and if he wants him and he considers him good enough then that's fine. What he's worth now and what he may be worth in a couple of years could be a big difference.

I think this covers it for me. The lad is clearly a good player, but he is still learning.

I do think we all have to trust our manager and his coaching / recruitment staff a bit more. There is a LITTLE bit of evidence to hand that suggests that they know what they doing.

I think the solution is staring us in the face. First we need to take up Turt's contract extension.

It is common knowledge that Sunderland were keen on taking Turt's a couple of season ago so for £200k and Embleton we will reluctantly sell him to the Black Cats. Nice signing on fee for Turt's and a good pay rise. Everybody's happy.

There is no guarantee he will fit the way Sunderland play. It was clearly thought he didn't last season so they offloaded him.

I'm with others. Quite like the lad but we should not be held to ransom for him. He's not irreplaceable and we were doing ok without him. £100k max and to do them a wage bill favour.

Sign him up yes by all means but I’d be disappointed if we paid anywhere near 500,000 for him like some have suggested on here.
Let’s not forget we’re a championship club now dealing with a league one club and they’ll over inflate his value for that reason.

Broke?
They were taken over by a billionaire a few months ago.

But does he want to get their finances onto a proper footing or pour more money into a sinking ship? This article, discussed in another thread, shows what dire straits they are in:

I don't know what price he will go for. I just think some people are under rating him, and some are stuck in the 80s with regards to prices. It's £4.80 a pint around where I live now.
£4.80- I can get 4 tins of karpackie for £6 at one stop & its 9%
350k seems low but with very good add on’s I reckon it’s worth Sunderland selling due to him only having a year left on his contract- if he had 3 years left I could understand us paying 600k

They just don't want to be paying bang average past it players 30 -40 k a week like they are, pretty understandable but they are far from broke.

All depends on what Sunderland demand versus what else there is in the market. Apparently, Lewis Wing did really well on loan to Rotherham in the Championship this season and Middlesbrough might be willing to offload him for less than Sunderland want for Embleton. You'd probably go for the player who had proven himself in the Championship rather than League One especially if that player came cheaper.

If we can get him for 350 plus add ons, great. Good point about him only having a year on his contract. We are in quite a strong bargaining position. We don't need to sign him, we can make an offer and walk away etc. The price will sort itself out. I can see why Critch wants him, if the reports are true.

People saying it's a risk to pay a lot of money for him, but I say it's not if you have a manager who clearly has the ability to improve players. This is the mistake most big clubs make, they want to buy the finished article and thats the risk. I suspect Sadler will be happy to fork out some decent sums this summer because he knows the outlay in transfer fees will be recouped several times over eventually.

Hopefully Sunderland staff feel the same as their fans. On their board, the consensus seems to be he's not good enough for them and if we pay any kind of fee we can have him! I think anything less than £500k would be worth consideration, he has some really good attributes and it wouldn't take much to make him a top player I don't think. He's hard to mark and carries the ball really well, definitely gave our attacking play an extra dimension, just needs to be more consistent with final pass/shot. I like two footed players too, they're so rare and it makes them hard to play against as you cant just show them one way and hope they screw it up. Only really Danny Coid I can think of in my time with 2 properly good feet.

£250k + add ons would be my maximum. I don't think he's set the world on fire as yet although there is potential to improve. There may well be better available so we don't want or need to be paying silly money for him.

Anyone else feel slightly uncomfortable about how players become commodities? First and foremost the player should be asked what he wants and where he wants to play. If that is at Blackpool then let fair negotiations begin. I can't help with Embo, it's like the person who cast aside something, found out it's valuable and suddenly wants an inflated view for him.
Unfortunately that's exactly what it is. But that's life, and no matter what your moral compass is, football and other big money making financial business doesn't work on a fair or proper moral compass. ** hell! We had the Oystons for years.. 😂😂😂

I'm not sure we have seen him in his best position. He could turn into that awesome ball playing central midfielder that becomes invaluable. Sunderland are in no real position to demand anything. I'd say 500k tops and am much happier with Ben Mansfield negotiating than I was with clown face!

But Danny had a twisted sock.

Not gonna get into the debate over fees and ability (I trust the club, it feels great).

But this is exciting news to me, we are a proper club!!

Pay the £500k. And do a deal with Sunderland that any future profit on resale to another club is split 50-50. But no time limit and no bonus payments triggered by appearances for us. We will get him for quite a few years before any transfer occurs. Win-Win, imho.

Not really. It’s our money. Revenue from about 1500 buyers of season tickets. Or aren’t you contributing?
Everyone has a right to an opinion however bonkers they might be sometimes. I think you have to trust the custodians of the money to do their best to strike the right deals. If you are unable to do that, as was the case with the Oystons, then you withdraw your funding.

It's not our money, you are paying to watch a form of entertainment. You wouldn't go to the cinema and.exoect to have a say in how they ran it just because you bought a ticket to watch a movie.
And if people don’t like the plans then they won’t spend the money so the customers DO have an implicit say in how things are run. Yes, we trust the pros but they listen too. That’s the wonderful thing about the new lease of life for our club. It’s much more collaborative between owner and fans than it was under the Stains when they just took, never gave, and could not give a sh1t what the supporters thought. As Koko repeatedly told us to our faces.

A lot of clubs are struggling financially and a lot of good players will be released.
I understand where you are coming from but market forces dictate price
How many clubs are after him?
Is he likely to leave on a free next summer
What other good young players are available.
Play hardball

All true. Be interesting to see what fee is agreed. I think 350 is probably a bit optimistic though. There may well be other interested clubs, his play off appearances have raised his profile, and his goal in the semi! That must've added 100k!

He's been good, at times brilliant. I don't think I would have put him in the category of "sign at all costs" though, if I'm honest. I haven't yet seen him play and thought that he should really be playing in the league above, unlike others like Dougall and Yates. There have been games where he has been quite anonymous and that makes me wonder whether he will immediately be able to consistently impose himself on better quality defences. I'm not saying he doesn't have the ability to develop into a Championship player in time, but if we're paying a large fee I would definitely wonder whether he's the best value we can get.
i agree with you BUT I think Critch see's things that mere mortals like us dont and has the ability to bring these to fruition

1) Critchley knows more about football than everyone on here put together, so if he thinks an offer is worthwhile that's how the club proceeds.

2) I'd like to think we're not a club who takes advantage of other's plight, even if it is Sunderland.

You must not have watched many games then because you’re talking out of your hoop if you think he’s that inconsistent. He isn’t. He provides so much to this squad. Almost like you don’t watch the game?
I dare you to go on iFollow and watch the 15 games he started and man watch him.
He is absolutely abysmal at times.
I would also say you have clearly do not watch the games.

Please no no no.
We can do far better than a one good game in every ten😕
True Simo but its the potential we would be buying not the guy as he is now. I imagine Critch is as good a judge of potential as there is around at our level so if he wants him I would be happy with that.

I agree he has potential but at what price? some of the figures on here that people would be happy to pay are eye-watering.
If he was to come it would have to be the smallest gamble possible and offer Sunderland a high % of a sell on.

He was that abysmal that the manager kept playing him up to and including the final. Think I will trust his judgment over yours

Yes, there is always a point where at this or that price we can find even better. So, its down to the negotiators now, and none of them are posting here.
