Blackpool are preparing a ‘significant’ offer for Embleton

Yes, there is always a point where at this or that price we can find even better. So, its down to the negotiators now, and none of them are posting here.
I would have him but at minimal cost as I really do think there are better options out there.

I have watched every game on Ifollow except the Pool v Oxford and Wembley so I know you are talking bollox. Rather trust our manager as I think he has more idea than you.
Watch them back and come back and say it.
Watching and analysing is completely different.

Embleton has done himself no harm in putting himself in the shop window. Other clubs will be well aware of his potential and might consider bids, one club might be willing/able to go to £1M for him - but what’s to say having him on loan, paying his wages etc. didn’t have an option built into the negotiation that if he did well and we and Embo were both happy, that we would offer him a contract, pay an already agreed fee, and convert the loan to a full contract. Maybe this is why he was urged to “sign the deal, sign the deal”

How would that benefit Sunderland? We can do all of those things now without it being in a pre-agreed contract. The only way that would work for Sunderland is if they were so desperate to get him off their wage bill in January they had to offer incentives. They actually extended his contract for a year.

As with all transfers, it will inevitably be down to the fee and terms for Embleton. We don't really know how much Sadler has for a transfer budget so we don't really know if £500k+ is a lot or a little.

I think they are going to have to ship players out and quickly tbh Kip - if they don’t want to let some of their main players go then a small fish like Embo going is less likely to cause a fan revolt than Wyke going.

Just speculating really and there are more flexible ways to do deals these days, Sunderland might have agreed a 250K/300K deal depending on us getting promoted and Embleton playing a role in that.

A lot will depend on Embo and what he wants to do. As he’s only tied to a one year contract.

It seems Critch really fancies him, it’s highly likely Embo wants to stay here in that case especially now at Championship level.

Can’t say I’ve been blown away by him but similar to other players he’s shown fantastic flashes of brilliance. Given the way we’re run now he’s the correct kind of gamble we should be making, not sure how I feel about a million quid on the lad but at the age of 22 five years down the line that price could seem a bargain.

I wonder if Sunderland would want a player off us plus a bit of cash. Possibly Robson? As they’ve gutted their midfield. Probably unlikely but maybe.

Regardless of his past success he wasn’t deemed good enough to play in the first team at Sunderland, 350k maximum for me, obviously with add on’s good deal for both clubs

Sun'land still think they are in the Premier League and that an average player is worth £10m. That is the shame that we are dealing with such a deluded club.

I first said on here about fifteen years ago, that I'd like a big part of our policy with regards to recruitment was to pay about 50k each for five or six youngsters and hope that all of them are good enough for us but that maybe two of them or so are good enough for a higher standard and can be sold for big money. In todays times though perhaps we need to be paying about 250k for these players so in some respects it's a bigger gamble. But that's the type of club we need to be. Fact is we'll always be a selling club.

Every single club in the world sells players if the price is right!

I think it is easy to watch the games and dismiss him, but I have watched him closely the past 5 or 6 games and he is instrumental in a lot of our forward play, he looks to get forward all the time and picks a pass. His delivery from set pieces is good too. If you listened to the follow commentary Colin Greenall, Brett, Keith etc waxed lyrical about him every game and at 22 he has untapped potential. I think he will improve and strengthen a lot under Critch, so I hope we get him if they want him.

I think Anderson and Kaikai are going to be players to watch next season too. Kaikai is always going to frustrate at times but his skill and ability is way off the chart and Anderson is going to grow into a really good player if he stays injury free.

I think Stewart and Dougall are our boiler room and will be massive too. If we can get Simms back we either need Madine or anther striker if we can't then we will definitely beed a couple of strikers but I hope Joe Nuttall gets a chance and someone like Piggott would be excellent.

We need to spend some money of a really creative midfielder who can score, like KDH. A right back and we won't be far off.

I like the idea of CJ and Mitchell out wide, that would scare any defence.

I'll be surprised if Madine gets another contract. CJ and Mitchell have the pace to scare defenders but need to improve the end product if goalkeepers are going to be really worried.

yep, I don't see Madine being here either. Even though we've gone up a division they'd probably want to at least halve his rumoured current wage. Would he accept that, maybe but not sure Critch even then would want him. But a forward/target man for me is essential.Yates needs a partner because Championship defences are gonna be much tougher to break down.

You're talking absolute bollocks mate.
I have just picked two random matches he started in and I chose games we won to be fair to him and used the skip forward 10 seconds tab when the ball was nowhere near him.
MK away and Swindon away.

The MK game he might as well have not be on the pitch absolutely woeful.

Swindon he was better and managed to complete more than two passes, but one thing I did notice even though he was not who I was looking out for him was Gabriel.
He should be the player we pay money for in terms of future potential.

Chizzy was raving over him, but he'd mixed him up with Kaikai 😉

Why would anyone pay £1m or more for Embleton when he has only a year left on his contract and has only limited league experience to properly judge him on? And especially in Covid times when clubs are strapped for cash. I would be very surprised if Sunderland got more than £300k to £400k for him, with perhaps a sell on clause. I certainly wouldn't pay more than that as he has been inconsistent for us and whilst he has been good at times he has not been the standout player on the pitch

I think we need better. And different, tbh. I think Simms and Yates is better, and is more what I wanted, and I think it's more what Critch wants too.

we need both options., Yates and a big target man like Madine [but a much younger version] and Yates and some-one like if not Simms, some-one reasonable in the air but also with that pace and skill to run the channels. Four strikers would be ideal.

Yes.

A local Sunderland report via the Football Fancast site reckons Embleton is currently earning £4.3k per week

Interesting words from a Sunderland player...

"Sunderland’s Max Power was full of praise for Embleton back in September 2020, labeling him as “brilliant” and a “nightmare to play against” in training.

“He’s technically one of the best players I’ve seen. A good mark of knowing someone’s technically good is he can take corners with both feet.

“I think Elliot’s at that age now where he knows that he needs to stay fit. I know it must be tough for him because I thought last season, he was brilliant in pre-season and then he done his hamstring away at Sheffield United in the [League] Cup."

“He’s someone who sees that pass that other players don’t. He’s a nightmare to play against in training, because he can go either way, shoot off both feet.”

Said it before.
The lad is class in training but he's yet to demonstrate it in full capacity because he needs game experience for his consistency and confidence to develop.
The way i see it he adapts at a lower rate than the likes of Simms and Thornley, and so there's a bit of a gamble if he will be able to step up to championship level or he'll give up to pressure and stay League 1 material.
Time will tell

Critch appears to rate him, he hasn't a lot of first team experience yet and I reckon he will develop with more games. Time will tell, but he looks to have the skillset.

I'd be up for bringing in Embleton if the price is right. I won't pretend to know the numbers in terms of how much he'll cost, but £350k seems optimistic for a young player Sunderland won't necessarily be in a rush to sell, having seen what he can do in the division they are in.

The price point will fall at a place where we think we can pay it, develop the player and still sell him for a profit. For me he's not a young player with Premier League star potential, so that will cap his value. He's probably not that kind of athlete, not that he can't still be a very good player. For this reason, seven figures scares me a little bit.

If the player wants to come, he and his agent can make the right sort of noises to drive the price down a bit. There's quite a bit to play out. What's fantastic is that I feel I can trust the decision makers at the club. We probably won't get ripped off and I like that we're at least interested in adding a good young player with potential who we know fits us well.

The club got Dougal and Stewart on free transfers and they have been excellent additions to the team
I think it was beacuse they were released by their clubs around the time the season was curtailed, so they had to keep on playing?
and they believed in Critch and SS project.
Same as Garbutt 😅
