Blackpool Doesn't Want You?

Seen a few of these doing the rounds on Social Media...Not very Social lol

What are peoples thoughts about individuals deciding to take it upon themselves to essentially make Blackpool a No Go Zone?

Maybe these folk should move to the Moon or Mars and then nobody would bother them, rather than living in a Town that relies on Tourism for the economy.

It's a tough question. Not sure there's a right or wrong answer. Effectively we've more than enough space for people to come to Blackpool and still "stay alert" and be socially aware of what is going on around them. I certainly don't expect 50,000 people to be descending on Blackpool that's for sure. And why would you want to travel a fair distance if many of the things you come to Blackpool for aren't open.

Your last sentence beggars belief.
At this moment in time there are NO clubs open, there are NO shops open, NO bars/pubs open, Pleasure beach NOT open.
Really what I'm trying to say is Blackpool is SHUT!!
How the hell will the tourist industry of Blackpool thrive when all these grockles are going to do are walk on the prom and possibly go to Stanley park.

When the virus is under control by all means welcome everyone back to the town as I've actually missed all the litter festooned streets in the town centre garnished with smashed bottles and sick.

If it's sunny this weekend there will be a lot more than 50,000 heading over. Guaranteed. Government advice recommends exercise and now you can have a change of scenery. Luckily all the locals will be on the Lakeland hills if this board is representative.

Blackpool isn't shut...We have beautiful beaches, miles of coastline and an endless supply of fresh air.

The government have said that people are free to travel for exercise, not that anyone really needs their permission, so who are these self syled little hitlers to start dictating where other human beings are allowed to go?

I did initially type 100,000 but thought that too high so downgraded it. 😁

I would love to go up to the lakes but being a responsible person, I will not be going just yet.

Please tell me how the beautiful beaches, the miles of coastline and the endless supply of fresh air is going to help the tourist industry? It isn't, is it?
Also, the fact that the north west of England is now the worst place to be in the midst of this pandemic , I think it both crass and foolhardy to suggest more people come to Blackpool to either contract or spread the disease.
Its busy enough on our beaches we don't need to encourage more cases of covid-19 in Blackpool. If there was a tiger walking down your street would you open your front door and welcome it in?

It helps the Tourist Industry by ensuring Blackpool remains a welcoming resort, instead of some kind of no go zeone patrolled by banjo weilding vigilantes.

You think they'll get it under control?
Not a trick question btw

I certainly hope so, if not, what's the point of what we're doing.
Honest answer Donk
There isn't any point....We panicked and bought ourselves a bit of thinking time maybe, but we've totally failed to protect the most vulnerable, in fact most probably killed many of them, due to lock-down and isolation.

We now need to revert back to plan 'A' and continue to try and develop immunity to ensure the virus runs out of steam....

Maybe the descendents of those who burnt 'witches'. Maybe wise to avoid Pendle Hill for a while yet.

So you think that a bunch of piss heads that come on stag and hen parties are going to be offended by telling them they cant come at the moment because, guess what? The bars and clubs aren't open.
The reason that not only Blackpool but the lakes don't want visitors is that both areas are, in the main an elderly population.

The fact I'm trying to explain this to a person who thinks its perfectly ok for gangs of lads going round as it'll help us in the future means I'm just banging my head against a brick wall!!😞

Initially it was to make sure the NHS and Morgues were not overrun, as they were in Italy.
Now achieved 👍🏻

I don't think any country had an exit plan other than wait for a vaccine which will be at least two years if ever. Anyway, I can't imagine the whole world would be vaccinated.

At best I think they may be able to control the symptoms with drugs, which will be available long before any vaccine, and provide a safer form herd immunity.

Unless there's a big break though with the vaccine development, I don't reckon it ever will be controlled, but the risk of hospitalisation or death will be reduced certainly in the short to medium term.

Why not? In theory, if the relatively few who have it now got over it and were no longer transmitters, then the rest of us don't have to have immunity as it would have been eradicated. That's what New Zealand have done. Initial swift draconian lockdown and now they have 90 cases and everyone else gets on with life.

Until they reopen their borders!

Not sure it's our decision to make

The gov't has said it's fine to travel to exercise ( indeed they have been very specific on this ) so why do individuals think they have the right to go vigilante if someone out of town wants a walk on the prom
Totally agree 👍

It's not that though is it? It's people using a slack Govt announcement to interpret as they want, so next thing it's 'hey lads, hey!'

Not true Boris was specifically asked on Monday in the open question section and confirmed ( in response to someone from the Lakes ) that you could travel there on your own or with family members from the same household and also meet one other person if you maintained social distancing

As I said above I can't see that it's up to self-appointed vigilantes to get the agenda - the guidance is perfectly clear

I'm not saying go vigilante. I'm saying town will be packed at the weekend if the weather holds. As the North West is the current epicentre of infection, you decide if that's a good thing.

Although other Ministers have said 'reasonable travel' and Boris has been known to not be in command of his brief.

And that's just today.

Whenever I see a local in, say, the Lakes vein bulging and shouting “we don’t want these people here infecting us!!” In get quite cross and think “well fuck you then once we’re through this”.

Which I suppose was the point of the op.

Nothing is open for your usual daytripper to Blackpool. I don't understand why anyone would travel even a moderate distance. Each to their own I suppose but my gut reaction is come when we're open.

I'm all for it being open as long as the go by the Govt rules, then there will be little problems, just say if 20,000 came, how many would need hosp treatment, how many will get locked up. I think we would cope.

OK, I understand your point but there will be a marked difference between what the Govt say and what many will actually do. The police have already said it's going to be difficult to manage. Honestly, I hope it doesn't go the way I'm suggesting but I think there's a reasonable risk.

I’m just waiting for a post along the lines of...

Just got back from a brilliant day’s walking in the Lakes, only marred by one of the ignorant locals shouting at me “go home and take your covid19 with you, you fucker”.

But then my whole day was ruined. The roads round Blackpool were so busy! 😡

And there were all these ignorant fuckers walking on the promenade 😡 😤 😡

Selfish bunch of barstewards if you ask me!!!! Spreading their covid19 filth everywhere!!! Have they no respect for the NHS?!!!

Yeah Facebook will be full of stuff like that this weekend

I’m staying away from the Fells for now but I’m not going to criticise anyone who does go or anyone who comes to Blackpool for some sea air

As if anyone has the right to tell anybody else where they can and cant go in their own country.

Personally I wouldn't travel outside of the Fylde coast at the minute, I wouldn't want to travel somewhere and potentially transport the virus back to Blackpool.
