Blackpool v Blackburn Official Matchnight Thread 31.08.22

Their player that got booked in the area had a good shout for a penalty, contact was made.
If I was a manager of teams we’ve got to play in coming weeks, that’s a dvd to show how to beat us. Pressure us playing out from the back, pass through our midfield on the counter and pick us off.

Bollocks. Saw the replay 4 times. He dived.

We deserved to lose, but that was no pen.

Don’t think ever played as well and lost a game to a more one dimensional team than that. They are not a good side at all. Cannot believe we’ve lost that. They’ll be screwed when brereton diaz gets sold tomorrow.
You didn’t accidentally play the recording of last seasons Blackpool v Blackburn did you? Because we were awful tonight….

One of the worst team performances I can remember. Looked shaky at the back; non-existent midfield and zero attacking threat. A real worry but I still think there are several worse teams than us in the league- that’s as it stands. A couple of additions tomorrow (midfield and a striker) and we could be ok again.

Best team won no doubt, but there were still positives. We played well in patches and Yates looks to be getting back to his old self, same Lavery in many ways, games and a couple more goals and I think they’ll be a real handful again. Thompson just wants it so much, love his attitude. Midfield clearly a problem but we know the reason is injuries. Felt Williams really struggled and after a decent start to the season, I’d certainly have Thorniley in there next game.

Never too high, never too low, on to the next game.

PS, thought Poveda looked good in his cameo too.

MOM 18 year old Adam Wharton, other teams give good youngsters a chance. We send ours on loan to National League sides?
If we had an Adam Wharton of our own he'd already be playing. It's not a case of giving a chance like a raffle winner it will have been recognised at Blackburn that their lad is ahead of his age group and ready to come into the first team now.

One of the biggest problems for me with playing from the back is that Williams has no left foot and at times ran into trouble so he could play the ball on his right foot, I think we would be better off with Thorniley, Thompson was impressive. Unfortunately for me, Madine shouldn't be starting just not quick enough at this level.

If we don’t get a striker in tomorrow we are going to huff and puff and labour this season. Great effort from the boys but Rovers had a clinical striker and we didn’t.

It doesn’t matter if ours are good or not, what are they going to learn at teams like Scunthorpe or Bamber Bridge. The only way to get better at any sport is to play with and against players better than you, not at National League or lower.

And Ekpiteta, who is a good defender tries to play out and loses, or gives away, the ball more times than enough.

It appears that no teams above the national league want our young superstars. Make of that what you want.

lets not stick this all on Rhys Williams.Marvs been caught out with those before That ball that Bradley Dack played right through the middle of our two centre backs has proven in the last two seasons to be a nightmare for us. I cant remember who it was in League one who kept doing that to us all night, mightve been Crewe at home.

Why did we look so poor tonight? I reckon for the first time this season MA got out thought tactically. When the formation isn't working it is usually the case that the players look shite. Blackburn players had more time and space in midfield and when they didn't have the ball they hunted in packs and overran us.
For me, you cannot play Madine and do a high press. If Corbeneau or the new boy from Leeds had started then it may well have been different. MA has got a lot right this season and I like him, but I think he got it wrong tactically tonight and didn't react quickly enough in H2 when it was clearly going t*ts up....

Felt sorry for Jordan Gabriel second half, he was left one on one against Diaz time after time with no help at all from bowler. Thought he did quite well considering. Central defenders were woeful.

Very angry after that. A lot of huffing and puffing does not make us a Championship side. Appleton stood motionless on the sideline like he was disengaged from the whole thing. Bowler's value was plummeting by the minute. Madine wasn't at the races throughout. Lavery - again, no! He can harry and dispossess well but more is needed from a striker. Dougall does something well then plays a woeful pass. Williams, I'm not sure. The whole team just didn't look together. It was never slick and we looked like a 'nearly team throughout.

Not great that was it? We need to remember we've had some good spells this season, and somd bad ones. Very inconsistent. Missing players are a big factor in that.

We can't move the ball around in midfield, we have to sit off and repel their midfield, and lack creativity.

Lavery isnt offering much at all, we can't afford such a small contribution from an individual.

Williams is a bit timid at the back for me. Marv covering for him too much. I'd prefer Thorniley or Husband. I think Hubby improves us, gives us a drive and aggression, psyches everybody up.

We were much better at home to Rovers last season. We look more disorganised now to me. Players less sure of the system and their roles.

Should have had a penalty though and Travis should have walked. Gaz too though.

Poveda the bright spark. Did more in 10 mins than Josh in 90. Tough night for Josh. I hope they both start for us on Sunday. Need Patino back asap.

Don't get too up and don't get too down. We have had a very mixed start but some promising times as well as Stoke and tonight.

Looked like Blackburn had more men on the pitch at all times.

Madine can't maintain the press, nights like tonight when he isn't offering the outlet you're basically playing with 10 men.

I wish we'd stop playing Lavery on the wing as he isn't a winger, he doesn't have the passing ability when he gets himself into a position.

EDIT: that being said about Madine, it was a disgrace when people cheered when he went off. Regardless of your opinion he doesn't deserve that

Positive is it should of been 1-1 the other 99/100 refs with eyesight would of given it, despite how poor we were.

Not great generally.
Wide open at the back.
Right footed centre back playing on the left when 2 left footed centre backs on the bench ….
Striker playing on the wing when there are 3 wingers on the bench.
Immobile target man up top with the touch of an elephant.

Blackburn not putting the game to bed by the hour papering up a lot of woeful ness by us.

Midweek home hoodoo continues

Agree with most of that except the part about Appleton being out thought for the first time. He has been tactically second best for most of the games. He is rigid in his formations, no plan B and he isn't picking the players that are in form. Corbeanu is the best player in the squad at the moment. Play him! The nobber defender is crap at the moment. Drop him!

We were outworked, outclassed and outpassed tonight. We were bullied, naive, unprepared and second best. For me that is mostly Appleton's fault. The lads went out there with strict instructions to play to the plan.

The plan was flawed, ineffective and doomed from the moment they scored.

Midfield was non existent with a Huge gap between the back four and midfield.
Rovers seemed to be able to pass it through us at a slow pace whereas we were treating the ball like a hot potato and couldn’t string 2 or 3 passes together.
Need to get our injured players back and we’ll be ok.
Looking forward to Patino, Fiorini, Poveda, Stewart, Bowler, and Corbeano in the same team

There's no doubt for me that the game has been decided in the middle of the park. The injuries don't help but we have nothing there that resembles a Championship midfield.
Absolutely. I thought Blackburn really knocked it around well and looked dangerous every time they went forward

To me we only started playing some decent football in the last 10 minutes when they decided to up the pace, get husband back ASAP, but grimmie was Brill, Blackburn deserved to win fair enough

Blackburn have signed Hyam for 1.5m and Hirst on loan with a view to buy in the last couple of days. A bit beyond what we can seemingly do. They also have a top academy that has supplied proper talent like Wharton and Travis. Diaz cost them 5m. Dack is quality.

If we could get Stewart, Fiorini, Anderson and Patino fit it would make a difference. We can barely field a midfield at the moment. Connolly is a defender by trade. We had 4 strikers. There's no balance.

Re Madine, the way I saw it the cheer was for Jerry staying on after 9 was held up first by mistake and it looked like he was coming off - then 14 held up and Gaz came off instead. I can see how it looked like the cheer was for Gaz coming off as it was at the same time. Unfortunate timing of 4th officials mistake I reckon, he would have got the usual clap otherwise
