Blackpool v Burton Official Matchday Thread 28.09.24

You see Burton Albion at home and you expect an easy win… but this is League One and there is no such thing.

Ballard injury is a blow. We need that pace and hassle of the opposing back line up top.

It’s still winnable. 4 wins and we’d be in dreamland.
Losing Ballard is a problem to be solved. He has played so well in a sort of 10 role behind Joseph. I wonder if Bruce will go for embleton or Carey to replace rather than Fletcher / Rhodes

It’s interesting Carey has been mentioned. He’s actually had a decent return (by his standards, at least) when cutting in from the left of a front three.

Agree anyway. I guess the pace of Ballard/Joseph will be missed but Embleton/Fletcher will offer a tweak in our approach - Bruce will sort it!

Hoping Embleton has been eating just salad recently.

Ballard out for “at least 3 weeks” and Evans struggling with a “fragile knee” according to Bruce.

Burton will be a tough game without these two

It's always the way with Blackpool, your hopes are raised then things come along to dampen them, like injuries.

But we should still have a squad plenty capable of getting the victory, it'll be interesting to see what Bruce does.

I can't see past more like for like replacements, otherwise players are wondering when they'll play. If he did something different like Carey up top or even CJ with Coulson on the wing and Husband at LB then it could work, but if he's doing that the strikers who don't play won't be happy others are shipped in to their position.

I can't see it. Can see Fletcher starting or Beesley.

In the middle Morgan and Carey seems likely.

Carey isn't a bad player and with now playing on the front foot and being positive whoknows if he can look way better like others have.

He's best attacking but Morgan does that too so not sure who stays back.

Another option is Embleton who isn't firing fully and has a similar issue where he's better attacking.

🤷‍♂️

Fletcher will get the nod I'd say.

Evans will be a huge miss. In theory it's Carey and Morgan, but that's very lightweight. I can see a curveball coming with maybe Offiah in there. At a push he might put Husband or Gabriel.

Injuries have taken us from firm favs to slight ones I think.

The engine room, (Evans/Morgan/Norburn) when fully fit, makes us so much better in and out of possession.

For the last couple of games, I did think ‘the only thing stopping us now is injuries’.

Good sides deal with them and players off the bench have to step up for Steve, now.

Still 1/2 favourites with bet 365

Hopefully we can start with the same 11 but with Lincoln and at home to follow, will Bruce be tempted to rotate a little?

Just arrived in Bispham, not that arsed about formation’s and who’s not fit, out in Cleveleys tonight and going game tomorrow with my old crew from forty years ago, the football will be a bit of an aside tbh, obviously hope for a convincing win tho, exciting times for this kid!

UTMP🍊💪⚽

As said Evans, Morgan, Norburn are a strong three.
Is Norburn back - always liked him, composed, tough, and calm on the ball (relatively).
My son knows a few people in South London connected to Albie, Charlton cocked up there when they let him go.
Onward and upward.

If Fletcher starts today, he’ll have to up his work rate for me. I’m not sure if it’s fitness or laziness, but I’ve yet to see him put a shift in that gets anywhere near to the levels of Joseph or Ballard

Don't think work rate is the issue. It's more the quality such as finishing. Different type of player; can't expect him to run the channels and run as much as Ballard.

Maybe not the channels, but I’d expect him to chase down the CD in front of him. His game feels half hearted to me but I’m happy to be proven wrong today

I think he will play the best 11 available both matches, our previous manager loved to rotate for the sake of it. If you had a good game you invariably got rested if you were not one of his favourites.

Agreed, I'm more thinking about the likes of Evans and Ballard. Both seem like doubts and maybe resting them if they're not 100% would make sense. I'm not talking about the needless rotation Critchley used to do.
