Blackpool v Burton Official Matchnight Thread 10.01.24

Noddy competition.
A chance for those recovering from injury, new players, try out new tactics etc. And hope that nobody else gets injured.
Otherwise not worth shouting about unless we actually get to the final.

Critchley wants to take this seriously though, he's said in past interviews that this is a chance to get us to Wembley so I wouldn't be surprised if he puts out a strong line up.

At this stage every team should be strong. The players should know the system we’re playing and their specific role in that system. If not that’s down to the manager and coaching staff.

Great opportunity to get minutes in for the likes of Dougall after a lay off, Marv and squad players like Virtue and Dom Thompson. Also a chance to impress for O’Donnell. All positive stuff

Perhaps a chance to put right that shambles on boxing day against this lot.

When is Kouassi back?

Also hoping a few fringe players can continue to prove a point or two.

I enjoy watching these matches, less pressure on and as said above see some different line ups, it’s totally different to a league game.

Derby out, Oxford out, so let’s try and win a trophy!
Must be one of the favourites now

Some of my favourite days watching us when I was younger was going to Cardiff and watching us win the LDV. I'd love to win this again. Day out at Wembley, my daughter has only been there to watch England women play so it would be her first time going to for Blackpool. Extra money into the club and a boost to lads if we win. Don't get me wrong this isn't high on my list of things I'd like us to achieve this season, but it's certainly not something to be scoffed at like some people do.

The winner will play one of the following later this month:

Bradford, Accy v Bolton or Donny v Wigan

Hopefully a good game tonight with another chance for our squad to show it's strength in depth.

Does the draw not become open after this round so we could play anyone rather than just Northern teams? Might have read that wrong.

I’m assuming it is still the same. A Northern final then play the Southern winners at Wembley.
‘The groups are made up of one invited Category One side, with the remainder made up of EFL Clubs from either League One or League Two, with fixtures regionalised until the Quarter-Final stage of the competition.’

That’s from the EFL website. Stupid change to make, if we win tonight we could draw Brighton U21 away from home in the next round. The old system was miles better.

I'm pretty sure the U21 sides all play away, so at worst it would be Brighton U21 at home. 🤣

O'Donnell
Connolly Ekpiteta Tharme
Lyons Carey Oakley-Boothe Virtue Thompson
Joseph Dale

Good to see Lavery on the bench.
I have a feeling Thompson may find himself on the right with Lyons on the left. I'd love to see Lyons played in his natural role of course.

Thompson on the right? Is that even a thing?
It could be you never know with the Critch, he usually inverts the wing backs assuming he's playing wing back. I'm thinking it may be Carey upfront with Joseph and dale playing alongside Thommo. Who can know?
