Blackpool v Charlton Official Matchnight Thread 20.10.20

Issues for me are -

Players continue to be picked in a position they have been shown to not be suitable for.

Better options aren't being picked when available.

Team has lost not just experience but also a lot of height and physical strength from previous seasons.

Trying to get players to play to a system rather than find a system to suit the players.

We all are entitled to our opinions based on the evidence out there. There is already a fair amount of evidence which so far is unfortunately distinctly negative regarding Critchley. It`s always possible he could turn things round but I wonder how the bookies assess his chances of doing that, long odds against I suspect.

As for the lottery unlike the`pool the only evidence is that it is completely random and nothing that has happened in the past has any influence on what numbers will come up next time so I`m afraid it is a lot more difficult to predict the lottery than the pool`s future.

Blimey, some really negative stuff being written. Was it really that bad last night - I don’t think so. A draw would have been a fair result. We’ve not been outplayed by anyone to date, despite a new team being developed and nurtured. Under Grayson we were a disaster, outplayed in almost every game. I still believe we will come good, we’ve got to give things time. As somebody said on another thread, Rome wasn’t built in a day!

Having read the whole of this thread I have to agree with most posters when it comes down to our outfield problems. However, I feel I must mention the problem stood between the sticks. I posted earlier in the season that Maxwell is neither a good goalkeeper or a good captain. It strikes me as ludicrous to have a goalkeeper as captain since he cannot cajole, enthuse or motivate players from inside the 18-yard area no matter how much he shouts. On his ability I'm afraid he doesn't instill the team with confidence. He doesn't command his area and his distribution last night was execrable. How many times did he find a teammate other than when rolling the ball out? I would hazard a guess at 10% of the time. His kicked clearances were often screwed into the stands, straightway giving away possession. Even worse, I hold him 50% culpable for Husband's sending off. He seemed to start to come for the ball and then stopped and retreated to his goal-line, leaving Husband to commit the obvious foul. Finally, he failed to make any reasonable attempt to parry the header which scored. He merely flapped ineffectually at the ball and fell over.
For his own good and the good of the side I believe he should relinquish the captaincy in favour of an outfield player, you chose, and be dropped in favour of Sims or Fojticek who can't be any worse and may be a lot better. Rant over!
