Blackpool v Charlton Official Matchnight Thread 20.10.20

Madine's like a big feckin bear lumbering around. Should've taken him off instead of Ward
I defo want to see Yates in place of him. Chest, flick over head, repeat. Got the ball in the area in space at the end of the half, slow as a tanker.

Can’t believe he’s turned in to some hero with some Pool fans.

What a weird half of football. I think the only things you can take from that are that Husband is a liability, Maxwell's judgement is questionable, Mitchell's defending is equally questionable, but the team actually coped reasonably well while a man down.

Their lad that got sent off was arguably a worse decision than Husbands. Even if we'd scored, a team playing with 10 men who last home game shipped 4 goals is unlikely to hold out. He should've let CJ go, although I guess it's just instinct.

And Ballard is better than anything else we have at CB so far.

How much better do we look without Husband and Ward on the pitch! Excellent performance so far with 10 men and now it's all to play for. I thought Woodburn was fouled in the box and should have gone down after that long ball...

Actually thought we did ok that half. Obviously going to be massively shaken getting a man sent off in a less than a minute but did Maxwell have to make a save? Bit of a stay in the game and see what happens situation and it has worked in our favour. Hopefully now it’s even we will get a bit more of the ball and get forward more.

Yates to come on and score the winner.

Well it's never dull. We have actually restricted them quite well, although their delivery into the box is polar opposite to the tripe we've served up. Hopefully we can keep scrapping and pinch it.
Tripe We've served up? We ve been playing and playing well with 10 men.
If we re still tripey end of tbe second half then fair point

Why oh why would you start Husband at CB when you have Ballard??? Yes hes the experience in the defence but if thats vital start him at left back.

One other thing you can take from our performances so far is this season is going to be a long hard struggle.

Husbands wasn't a bad decision stopped a goal and we have all to play for now.

The extra man doesn't normally tell until the last quarter, so we held out well. All square again now. The new boys have done well. I'd like to see Yates on now there's more room on the pitch. Madine's not mobile enough.

I think Madine has done fine. Held the ball up and won headers. Yates won't be able to do that. If he does come on it will be for Woodburn surely. Like for like.
More space I think Mac and defenders with less players to pass to. Yates will work far harder than Madine. We need creativity I reckon not brute strength. Kemp for CJ and Yates for Madine at some point in the second half.

Ballard looks good.
Their winger with the bandage having to go to left back might be as big a help to us as them actually going down to 10 men. As someone else mentioned, this could help pull us together and really give us some steel and resilience.

Weathered the initial storm well, hopefully the second half can swing back in our favour now.

Husband is always rash, but at left back when he pulls someone down or snaps them it’s out wide. At centre half, they are through on goal.

He has never and never will be a centre half, EVER.

Whilst we have a N.Ireland centre half on the bench. I’ll support the Head Coach but that’s a pretty simple and big mistake.

I’ve just been awarded a trophy
can I ask why , what’s it for
trying to think for what for lol
can someone explains 🙈

I think Husband was just unlucky - I don't believe he is a natural CB at all - earlier he was caught out - I don't think he meant to take him out.

Based on that 45 mins, Ballard looks like a replica of Taylor Moore - very impressed!
Good looking player but what is Critchley thinking of leaving him on the bench and playing husband out of position at centre half. Might be a blessing in disguise that we will have to start ballard on Saturday. Really do wonder sometimes what goes through Critchleys head
