Blackpool v Hibs Official Matchday Thread 29.07.23

Just spotted that Hibs are playing away in Andorra in a Europa Conference qualifier this afternoon so likely they will probably be playing fringe players/ youngers on Saturday. Not that I could tell you who is Hibs first 11 anyway!!

Yep! Live on BBC iPlayer at 4pm

It certainly won't be the first team they put out, the unused bench from today plus fringe players probably.

And seeing as the first team is currently a goal down in Andorra, I would not hope for too much from what's left.

Make that two down.

Hibernian suffered a calamitous and embarrassing defeat at the hands of Andorran side Inter Club d'Escaldes in the first leg of their Europa Conference League second-round qualifier.

They might play their first team after this result😎

HIBS recovered from their painful Europa League exit with an impressive win over Premiership new boys Blackpool.

A rare Derek Riordan header and Liam Miller's sublime free-kick completed a cracking fightback after John Hughes' side had gone behind to an early Jason Euell strike.

Despite a ropey start the Hibees went on to produce a composed display against Ian Holloway's men and put a smile back on the faces of their 1000-strong travelling support.

The Edinburgh club were hoping to enjoy a few European trips this season. But after their crushing defeat to NK Maribor in midweek Blackpool will be about as far as they go for a game between now and the end of the SPL campaign.

Hughes' men made the journey to Bloomfield Road hoping to restore a bit of pride after limping out of Europe at the first hurdle.

The Hibees gaffer made two changes to the side beaten 3-2 by the Slovenians at Easter Road on Thursday night.

A bit of ‘Groundhog Day’?

I wish this game was up at Easter Road!
I Would have loved a weekend trip to Edinburgh.
The club could have arranged a couple of games against Hibs and Hearts, Friday night / and Sunday say, would have been a great weekend!
That could have been lively as Leeds are at a Hearts on Sunday!!

Noticed bookies odds 1/3 Blackpool and 11/2 Hibs. No idea how they got these for a pre season freindly. They don’t think much of Hibs.

Odd fixture really considering their season has begun. Did Hibs start training earlier than us so are maybe a bit fitter? Maybe that was the idea.

Thought Lyons would have started. Trialist on the bench. Should know by now not to second guess Critch.

Not convinced this gives that great an indication of our ‘starting XI’. In fact I’m not so sure we’ll have a starting XI this season. Critchley will trust every member of his squad to perform the role they’re assigned. This XI will be determined by the sports science and the need to play a certain way against a certain threat / weakness etc. Could be a whole different set up next Saturday and I’d not be surprised in the slightest.

I just wasn't expecting Connolly to be in the XI nor did I think Lyons or Trybull wouldn't be playing
Likewise but lets stay calm eh? 😆

Connolly works in a 3. Pushes Hubby iut wide. All good. Trybull is too good for the bench but playing one DM is less defensive. Critch seems to want to use 2 AMs this time round.
