Blackpool v Liverpool U21 Official Matchnight Thread 10.10.23

No, I have it on the best authority from people who really know - this lad will go places. Pure chance through a work connection that I have this information, but I 100 percent trust the source.

I'm rivetted
Chisnall is the most embarrassingly underprepared commentator pundit out there. He was questioning where Owen was last Saturday when anyone who'd done an ounce of research would know. It's not acceptable. He's a buffoon.
Absolute joke, he is.

I can't believe that it's his actual job that he gets paid real money for doing.

Have you no pride, Chiz?

A couple of weeks ago he didn't pick up his co commentator when he couldn't work out why CJ kept coming inside onto his left foot

Had me screaming at the effin screen

I know and we appreciatethe information, couldn't resist a little nibble.
The bloke who gave that judgement is a scout at Sutton with over 50 years in the game at several of the London clubs. Let's hope he's on the money. The bigger question is - what persuaded Kouassi and his agent to choose us over what must have been several other suitors? Someone somewhere at BFC, or maybe the whole recruitment team, did a great job here.

I like the attitude of our second string, and they are playing well.
Dembele is a box of tricks and Beesley winning everything in air and showing a nice turn of pace.
So we are winning 2-1 ?
How long left ?

NC

Apart from when he started the game before last.
He didn't start the game before last?

He played an absolute blinder against Reading and then found himself on the bench and hasn't started a game since? Critch did exactly the same with Owen Dale who made his debut, scored a great goal, set up a great goal and was then benched?

I've heard from sources it was the sandcastle.

For anyone who didn’t go and witness the Kylian Kouassi show you missed a treat. We have some player.

Second half sub and hat trick. Amazing. He terrorised the young Liverpool defenders and was mostly unplayable.

Decent run outs for Morgan, Weir, Lyons, Tharme, Marvin, Dembele and Beesley. Well done to Owen Dale for turning out in the circumstances.

Like most under 21 teams Liverpool caused us problems with fast attacking movements but ran out of steam late on.

Enjoyable game last night. A few player comments:

Dembele, he's small, and he'll need to be protected, but he can move the ball around and find little passes which I don't think any of our other players can. He's like Bowler but happy to pass. Hugely exciting, but we need to understand how best to use him.

Lyons, I've not seen him play in person for a while, but he's growing. Used to have a much slighter frame last year but I'm sure he has bulked up a bit and put in a shift last night, looked very fit. Had plenty of touches in the box for a wingback (if anything he was more keen on pushing into the box rather than finding a cross), but that's partly down to the weakness of the Liverpool LB who was terrified most of the evening.

Marv, I can't see him back in the first XI any time soon based on last night. I was sat just behind the dugout and Critch was chewing him out for the number of wayward passes and the time pondering on the ball, he got a lot more 'active coaching' than any other player on the pitch last night. The number of times he fucked up a pass and did his little wave 'sorry'... whatever sprinkling of magic Keogh helped him find a few seasons back is well and truly gone now.

Beesley didn't do anything to move himself up the pecking order. I don't see much of a player in there personally; he's 6'1", and it seems that when he has time to set himself, and put absolutely everything into a jump, he can just about leap as high as 6'2". Also, he seems so shot-shy for a centre forward. I'm sure some stat wonks out there could collate this, but it seems like he manages one shot every game and a half from the ball at his feet.

Tharme is a player who I'm really starting to like. He looks like the slightly unfit goofy lad at school, he doesn't seem to move 'fast', but he's almost always *exactly* where he needs to be on the pitch, he's physical, and can pass. Put in a good performance for me.

Kouassi has been covered elsewhere. He can easily play a Madine role in the team, he can bring down a high ball and then use it. The difference is that he's on the ascendant part of his career, and still young, while Madine struggled at times due to his age. Right now, Kouassi/Rhodes are our front two. Critch likely won't agree :)

Oakley-Booth, with the exception of a nice run to push us up the field in the second half, was pretty anonymous to me. Others seem to see more in him, and fair play, but he didn't stand out in my opinion.

Crikey, I'd take anything that Chisnal says with a massive pinch of salt...

He wasn't released, he ran his contract down with Sutton (ended in June 2023) and with no fee being agreed (and him being only 20) a fee will have been sorted by tribunal.
Surprised he did not make a mistake as to who we were playing ,he usually does al least once every match 😂.

Maybe we aren't playing him because the more goals he scores before the tribunal, the higher the fee will end up being.
The tribunal only looks backwards. It's about fair compensation for the time the previous club put into training and development, fair market value a the end of his contract, and interest from other clubs.

But the key this is it's all based around the player's situation this summer in June, not how he has performed since.

Glad you lot won last night. I don't think that these U23s teams should be allowed to take part in this competition and why should the Prem teams be allowed to take part. The more defeats these U23 teams get the better. If you have any more U23 teams to play I hope you put them to the sword.

Oakley-booth played the ball through for Kouassis 1st. Many times we've seen our midfielders not be aware and just go back out of safety. He turned and didn't mess about, could have just played it to Weir also, but first thought forward to penetrate theie back line and played a very good through ball.
