Blackpool v Luton Town Official Matchday Thread 05.11.22

Right before anyone starts slagging the manager off, let's get this right, we are struggling do to gross incompetence in the transfer window.
Madine is having to be dragged out every single game, even though he's not fully fit and not exactly a youngster. Why did we try to sign Colby Bishop ? Was it because the manager though we needed an extra forward ? We didn't get him so was it Colby Bishop or no one ?
Connolly another playing 180 minutes every fricking week, second season in a row no plan B for right full back. I don't care we are getting one in January when we are dropping points right now, in games we could draw or win.
Things are that bad we have to sign injury hit free agents to bolster the squad. I like Bridcutt and Ward, but we have them because of piss poor recruitment in the summer.ooks like we've lost Anderson again for weeks, was he rushed back to add to numbers ?
It boils my piss when people blame the manager. The board, owner, transfer recruitment waste of time group, Chief Exec, need to take a hard look at themselves.
Hope they have plans for January, especially someone who can play down the middle and give Madine a rest.
I'm not hopeful and think this season could end in tears.
Bang on that

Absolutely right in every respect.

I can't understand how do so called Championship players fail to pass to a team mate or if they do that player can't do anything constructive with it

I think if we don't strengthen in January and the club sit on the Critchley and Bowler money they will have a hell of a job selling season tickets next season more so if we're league 1

Can I say I thought we were a bit unlucky there.

We were miles better than our midweek performance (s) and it just didn't go for us.

They were hardly peppering is with shots, and TBF to Brett, he says one goal would win it.

We got bullied by a good strong physical team, set up not to lose. Their game plan was executed brilliantly.

More broadly.

Maxwell can make some fantastic saves, but isn't convincing with things coming across him.

We have players who are playing too much football because we have so many injuries. That's an area that is not down to luck.

One loan out of five looks like it's working.

Or squad need some serious attention in the next window.

MA appears to be taking into the habit of making substitutions too late. Theo should have been on 10/15 minutes earlier.

I don't think we will go down, I hope the World Cup break gives our players a chance to rest; I'd give them 2-3 weeks off - they need it.

We never broke their defence. We looked down to the bare bones. Charlie wasn't up to it, Gaz wasn't winning anything in the air and Wright isn't good enough. Dougall posed a threat, as did Hamilton but their crosses came to nought.
Thornily was my MOTM in the first half and no-one was in the second.

Set pieces can have a big impact and once again they did today. Both teams looked quite poor but we conceded from yet another corner. How I wish we would sign a taller goalkeeper and someone who can take set pieces.

Hull have players on £25k a week we are a million miles from that and Luton are a strong physical side who we haven't beaten for 11 games

BTW when did you become so negative
Not negative. Just extremely pissed off we are walking into a dead cert relegation. Playing the likes of Grant Ward and signing kids like Callum Wright. Absolute passengers. Then you have Yates on the left and Madine as a lone striker. CJ now doing his one good game in 5.

It’s all just very backwards. Most clubs in this league would have progressed but we have gone massively backwards. It’s hard to take which is why negative. But I’d call it being realistic.

If we could defend corners properly we would have drawn 2 games this week.

Also Luton played within the width of the penalty area all game and we fell into it by going inside too much. CJ had the beating of the full back and when Theo came on he did his full back twice. Bit naive for the rest of the game really.

I don’t think we played too badly. Think a draw would have been fair. Really hope those injuries today are nothing serious when we are already down to the bones.

Bad luck gives you nothing - we lost & are now hovering very close to the bottom 3. Let's hope for 6 points next week, wih our patched up team of mainly first division players (10 of the finishing 11 played for us in L1 & the 11th Connolly is playing every minute of every game out of position). The board have not supported MA & it's they who shoulder the blame.

We have a taller goalkeeper, who never gets a sniff. I don’t watch what happens in training, he might not be ip to much. If thats the case he’s a waste of a wage , get rid and get someone in who’s going to try and command his area.

Disappointing overall. Not sure we deserved to lose. Crosses / balls into the box continually not getting past the first man.

I’m told Luton played without a “recognised” centre half today ?

I genuinely worry for you if you thought CJ posed a threat 🤯

Today was quite scrappy from both sides, you have to credit Luton with a very good defensive performance. Can't say Luton were great, but they work hard and they move the ball reasonably well. One of those games where it was could've should've but we didn't. Madine looks out on his feet, ward struggled to get up to speed, obviously Patino is still I'll, even Jerry seemed to have less energy than normal. On another day one of those scrambles would have gone in. C'est la vie

If I was fit I would be there , rain , hail or snow, til death us do part etc . I’d rather watch us play shit and lose , than not watch us at all ! UTMP
Your choice at the end of the day kid but I'm slowly losing the will to live watching the pool at the minute.
You know me well enough to know when I've reached the end of my tether

We need a keeper around that height. At the moment Moore is our third goalkeeper and not the answer. All teams have a third keeper and I imagine he isn't good enough to be first choice. I also imagine his wage is the lowest in the squad. If we did have a first choice keeper that tall though it would really help for crosses. Someone who would come and claim the ball and take the pressure off the defence.

Yeah it was a clear handball, we're almost unfortunate that immediately after we had that goalmouth scramble, if they'd have immediately cleared it 2-3 of our players were about the surround the ref and he would have had a decision to make.
Like the blatant corner we should of had when 3 of their players surrounded the ref and of course he changed his mind and gave them a goal kick. 😒

First half today was very disappointing again , given WBA performance I expected a reaction . Second half started with goal mouth scramble with a handful of efforts getting blocked . we then went back into shell until last 5-10 mins with another almighty pin ball episode without result . All in all we didn't do nearly enough to win the game maybe a draw would've been fairer but if you dont score at home thats what can happen .

Their makeshift defence at that

The bottom line is, we're fucked
We are almost half way through the season and we're still playing a makeshift right back no matter how well Connolly plays.
We constantly have players injured with no like for like replacements
We are constantly down to the "bare bones" without any signs of strengthening
Due to recruitment we have plan A but nothing beyond
We lost Bowler, our one player with flair with no replacement
Injuries follow illness with more injuries with no cover/replacements
We have an incredible team spirit but we are running on empty
I'm beginning to fear we just haven't got enough to stay in this division

Something has to change, the club needs to support Appleton by giving him the tools to do the job or just resign ourselves to relegation. We are in a big boys league here, we either want to play or we can just slip back into the mire of league 1

Missed the game thankfully. I think we all expected to be in a relegation battle after the managerial delays and lack of inspired signings.
Most of our players are below Champ level, we all know who they are.
We overachieved last year. Just hope we can scab enough points to survive.

Bullshit Ben needs to hold his hand up and explain why he completely bollocked up the Bowler transfer by not loaning him back to us, his parent club.

He only wins Ariel battles against small defenders
Most of the time. He looked good against Coventry but they looked very susceptible at the back the day we played them. I cant remember the last time I've seen us look so dangerous in the air. We haven't looked that dangerous since .

Theo should start as he was the only one producing chances, too many poor crosses from the right in the 1st half.
we’ll be back to winning ways next week 🤞
