Blackpool v Middlesborough Official Matchnight Thread 29.12.21

Mitchell or Critchley?

Or someone else?
I answered it above. Mitchell. Critchley was again too slow to react with his substitutions taking a ridiculous 13 minutes to make them because once he made them it was pretty much one way traffic from us but that is Critchleys style not to rush. Mitchells was a howler..

Mitchell you dîck!

Rest of the blame goes to Critchley again for his cráp starting 11, weird overly defensive formation and perplexing subs. Just pissed this match away. And he better not try and blame Covid etc with Bowler sat on the bench. No midfield of note. Absolute stinker. No luck either. 😡
I'm pretty sure Bowler wasn't fit enough to start.

Bowler & Lavery superb when they eventually got on. Madine and Yates worked hard all night. Anderson had an off night, Dougall was shocking in first half but clearly got a bollocking at half time and was a different player in the 2nd half.
Keogh and Big Marv superb. Greaterson struggled.
All that said….Very unlucky to loose. Watmore a handful. Referee poor and weak. 4 minutes added time….you serious.
Dougall wasn't fully fit.

On the blame game I think Hubby trumps Demi, just.
Demi shouldn't have tried to take the player on although if he'd beaten his man and run the length of the field and scored...
but he lost it and Hubby should have closed his man down.
He did the same for the first goal.
I'm starting to think he's a better CB than FB.
Overall though a great effort but a bitterly disappointing end.

So Dougal wasn’t fully fit, others have suggested Bowler/Lavery aren’t fully fit hence why they didn’t start, WTF then are we going balls out to get a game played when we’re obviously struggling to put 14 fit players out?

I heard from someone in the know that pool didn't want the match played. Boro kicked off as they were already here and that the EFL ordered the game to go ahead.

It’s such fine fine margins in this division. It seems more so than the last time we were here. I’m happy with the direction of the performances in the last few games. We are in danger of throwing the baby out with the bath water with player bashing due to mistakes and results not going our way.

2022 is nothing to be scared of!

One thing on the ref, 4 minutes added time ? 6 subs, Bamber sat on his arris for 2 minutes. He kept pointing at his watch every time they worked their way through a chain of players to take a throw in.
How he arrived at 4 minutes I couldn't get my head around.

I made a comment about Mitchell last night saying he wouldn’t feature if I was in charge as he’s too lightweight, just for balance that was his overall performance’s & not solely last night’s error. I’m afraid he doesn’t seem to have the attributes to succeed at this level, now whether he can improve & address this time will only tell. I would love to be proved wrong. In his defence when he is played up the field wide & he loses it there’s still plenty of players to regain possession & as he’d just come on he wasn’t up to the match speed. If NC did it as a time wasting substitution it certainly backfired, I’m puzzled why.
I also heard someone slagging Anderson off on my walk home, probably the same type of Herbert that used to slag GTF off, he was everywhere last night & really put a shift in, if he was half a yard quicker he’d be playing for a top Premier League club.

Just seen it again on Lee's video. Simply terrible from Mitchell. He tried to take the player on and lost it in a dangerous position.

Why would Critchley bring Mitchell on to time waste? The sub was made before we equalised, so it was done to take a defender off and put another forward on to try and equalise. It worked in that we scored but then we were left short at the back. He would've been criticised for not giving it a go if he hadn't.

Yeah you're right I probably got lost in the emotion of it all.

I can understand that.
I remember thinking at the time that it was a pity we didn't equalise a minute earlier then Keogh would still be on the pitch. We gambled and lost, but I'd rather that than lose 1-0 without giving it a go.
Main lesson for Mitchell; when you know we've just subbed two of our centre halves for forwards and only have one left on the pitch, you don't - under any circumstances - take any unnecessary risks. Especially when we've just equalised.

MoMs Connolly & Ek. Mitchell always woeful, and Hamilton, when they play. Need shipping out. Jerry looked great. Keshi been player of saeason so far. James for Husband at LB all day long. Wintle and Dougal fading fast over recent games. How about Connoly & Ek in centre mid, with Keogh and Gret as CBs - because our centre backs are better passers than the mid.

We traveled down from Scotland for our annual festive trip. A night in the Blackpool FC hotel and a Seasiders game. We were in back row seats necut to the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the game. i really felt for you guys at the end as I thought the team had put their heart and soul into the game. A draw was the least they deserved. I was particularly taken with the strength individual players showed on the ball, managing to retain it in tricky situations and find a man with a pass. I think you will stay up, as you look like a team that plays for each other, and that’s the main aim this season. It was heaven compared to the dross I’ve been watching this season at kilmarnock. Best of luck for the rest of the season and we’ll be down for a Championship game again next year.

I see a Boro fan commented that we have a tin pot stadium. After 30 odd years of Oyston ‘input’, I’d say, we were lucky to have a stadium at all. 😕
