Blackpool v Reading Official Matchday Thread 23.09.23

First game at Bloomfield Road this season so one game sample. Thought Pool were much the best early and playing in the front foot and then the silly tackle for the penalty swung the game completely our way. Kouassi winning the duel that set CJ racing into the box. Great ball wide from Norburn and an even better one from Dale for the second goal Great leap by Kouassi. Great flick on again from Kouassi for the third well taken by Rhodes (keeper wants a rollicking for his effort). Nice ball from the tackle by Wsir and well tucked away again by Rhodes despite not catching it cleanly. Game effectively over Reading getting one back when Norburn let the player into the box too easily and an unlucky deflection from Husband.

Overall a good win probably a bit flattering due to how poor Reading were. Grimshaw good when called on and back three steady all afternoon. CJ and Dale were excellent attacking. Far bigger challenges lay ahead for this formation though if you get in behind the wing backs we will be caused lots of trouble. Norburn was steady and I thought Dougall played well until went off injured. You can’t knock the front two who wprked hard scored 4 goals and were involved in them all. That said they both looked to lack a bit of pace for me, but as I can’t knock them will keep quietish about that.

The team need to build on this now and get themselves involved in the promotion race. 8 out of 10.

He is. I saw nothing yesterday to suggest he's a top end League One winger. Or a Championship winger.

I stand by the fact that he's a very ** awful footballer who is a one trick pony and when teams (Wycombe, Port Vale, Lincoln, Leyton Orient) play close wing backs against him he's useless. He had a clear shot yesterday at goal and somehow managed to ** it at Jordan Rhodes when it was easier to score the goal.

One of the reasons we got relegated from the Championship is because of playing players of the class of CJ. He hasn't improved one single aspect of his game since he joined us.

He played well yesterday but it was still a 7 or pushing an 8 out 10. And the same against Wigan.

Yet that doesn't excuse the 3 out of 10 performance last week against Wycombe.
He was 9+ against Wigan and 8+ yesterday. You really are ** clueless and can't admit when you're wrong. Was it you who said it was 1 decent game per season for CJ or 1 in 10? 🫣. Either way you're wrong 🤣. Very poor Kurtis!

Not sure its been mentioned but the Reading forum had a preview of the game which included the following gem.

"Star striker Jerry Yates left for Swansea in the summer but Jordan Rhodes arrived on loan. In addition they beat Reading off for the services of Jensen Weir. Shane Lavery is probably the striker to stop while midfielders Alex Lanksheer and Kenny Dougall could be ones to watch."
