Blackpool v Sheffield United Official Matchday Thread 29.12.22

Well, having watched QPR v Luton and Pool v Sheffield United, I thought Appleton’s team performed much better than Critchley’s - and against a much better team
At least we tried to go forward and not sideways and backwards!

Can’t knock the players effort but tactics and formation wrong again. Why Beesley on the wing ? No wingers so we have to keep going backwards or sideways. Non or little pace.

Surely he has to go now ?

He has to go, there is simply nothing good about what he brought to our football club. Strikers on the wing, a winger in the middle. Not one player has been improved under him. Yes we lack quality but his tactics are exposing us far more than any decent manager would allow. Simon, swallow your pride, accept you got this badly wrong and do something about it now!

Not seen Pool live for a while - men against boys in first half - but could ea have nicked a point ….

seem a lot less mobile/ confident than last season -

He isn't going anywhere, get it in your thick heads!! He has been shafted from day one and you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. If they don't land 4 or 5 quality players in January then it won't be MA I will be pointing the finger at.

They know they have fucked it up and in doing so it has made things even harder for themselves as they are probably going to have to spend more money in January to get the players they needed in the summer when they could have saved some. If they fuck it up again, I hope people can actually see what is going on. And that's with me thinking they should never have taken on MA in the first place because with the feeling from supporters right at the start they HAD to back him, not sell our best player, lose our lynchpin in defence and just buy Thommo and Wright FFS!! They have to do something now and getting rid of the manager when the window is about to open for a month would guarantee relegation.

I can’t believe Sadler is content watching this and having us go down like this without a fight. He needs to fuck off this 40 million investment bollocks and secure us a manager that can actually coach and get some players in. This is ** terrible.
Lack of fight is just bollux, we have, some average players trying but failing to beat better quality players

If we keep Appleton but then fail to back him, he could well walk out. That would raise serious questions of the board.

I'm not even bothered anymore. I'm literally just expecting a loss every single game. Its just ** terrible... 3 points from 24? I don't understand how people can continue to defend this football.Jake Beesley playing on the wing. What the fuck is going on??????

That's the message I had written out... and then we scored 🤪🤪🤪
Cheer up and, Appy new year

None of the injured players would make a massive difference. Maybe Keshi.
Agree with that, not often I do agree with you.
They battled hard but we, are too easy to score against and have few quality players. That is not down to Appleton but probably a lone voice

Effort was there but lack of quality was glaring. Seen it back and what the fuck was Thompson doing just allowing the guy a free run on goal. There was other cover so he had to get across and it should have been pretty easy to force their player wide. Grimshaw didn't cover himself in glory with it either.

How can you be cheery after that result? And the previous 7 results? Unless you're a ** nobber.
Not a Nobber, we are struggling but ask yourself
1/ we're the players trying to win
2/what team selection was wrong
3/what substitutions did Appleton get wrong
4/ how many teams have Sheff Utd beaten recently

I just have not jumped onto the bandwagon of Appleton being the Antichrist.
By the way how did Critchley do against little old Luton?

How was he man of the match

So no blame with MA then?

Yep you are negative
Not down yet and if we battle as we did today and cut out the soft goals we will be fine
We will need more than that to survive.

In fact, I saw two kids in the middle of the park not battling which is why they were walking through us for most of the first half.

Carey not improved then?

He's the manager but give the bloke a chance, he hasn't had that at all. I'm fucked off with this idolisation of Sadler, he doesn't do it for me, all that effort to get the Stains out, the feel good factor, he's had to sort out an unholy mess but he knew that and to be honest I think he lacks experience and in hindsight probably wasn't the best person to take over the club. I wonder what he thinks? I wouldn't mind betting he wonders what the fuck he's done. I wouldn't blame him if he put the club up for sale, probably get a tidy profit too if we can stay up.

He’d sell if someone wanted it

I think the board had already agreed to back Appleton before any of the festive games were played. Even if we get a heavy defeat to Sunderland next up..I still think they'll keep him. He's on a tightrope but I think he's probably got another 6 or 7 games. From what I've heard the board seem keen to back him but I just wonder what quality players would want to come if we are rooted to the bottom w

The issue is MA being crap. SS made a gamble and it failed. I said at the beginning of the season we would be down by easter and ive no reason to change my mind. Get a new man in. Bring bk the loan signings and watch all of them in training. Bange has been on the books for a few seasons now. Maybe hes not good enough but id like to see him on the bench as weve no firepower. Madine, Beesley and Yates arent good enough.

1. Sometimes if we're lucky they even try for an entire half of a game!
2. A lot of team sections have been terribly wrong. Example. Beesley on the wing what the fuck is that.
3. He's made plenty of errors with subs. Maybe not today.... what does that have to do with anything? He's presided over 3 points in 8 matches 🤪🤪🤪
4. They've beaten a few but we gave them the game with easy mistakes.

Fuck little Luton. 60 points. That's what he gave us. If this carries on we'll be likely to get ** 40.

That’s comical, referencing Bange and players out on loan, then saying Madine, Yates and Beesley aren’t good enough. They are more than good enough, our core issue is midfield and it has been for 2 seasons.

None of the players out on loan are anywhere near good enough for Championship football, likewise none of our youngsters are ready at this level.

This team is capable of staying up I think, IF in January we can get a smattering of quality on the wing and a leader in the middle. There are no shirkers in there, and I thought we competed very well tonight against a side destined for automatic promotion.
We just don't quite have the cutting edge that the better teams have. Following Bowler's departure and Anderson's injury, we have no-one to take on a full back.
At least I thought we didn't, but Poveda was miles above any of our team in terms of movement, control and pace. Why on earth hasn't he been starting more often?!

Tonight I thought we'd get battered, but we didn't. It was a good effort but ultimately came up short which doesn't help us. That slip in the lead up their second was just the kind of luck you get when down at the bottom I'm afraid. And they had the player to take advantage.

I think Appleton's comments on new signings are interesting. He's said he expects 2 or 3 in "next week". He's basically really putting the ball back in the boards court, it seems like an ultimatum to me. He's making sure the fans know that if we don't then he's been let down. Next week will be very interesting I think. One things for sure, what we don't need are two or three 19 year olds that have barely seen first team football. We need players that are ready to go in this league. Not an easy feat on our budget.

One last point on MA. He got dogs abuse for not applauding the fans last time, and apparently he did tonight and got dogs abuse again. I'm not a fan of his but at least I can see he can't win with some on this point. Which would our fans prefer? He can't do both!

Bollox look at the goals scored. Clues in the total.
