Blackpool v Stoke City Official Matchnight Thread 03.11.21

We`ve been getting results lately without playing particularly well apart from the Reading win and without our best goal scorer still then I think we may not win this one so hope I`m wrong on that but forecast 1-1.

When did we last beat Stoke at home?
Hope it was decades ago as another record will fall.
Will go for 1-1.

Edit. Just checked and unless I am mistaken it was February 1964.
Scorer was Graham Oates!
We have beaten them away on several occasions.

"Stoke City are expected to be without five senior players when they make the Wednesday night trip to Blackpool.

Nick Powell (leg), Sam Clucas (quad) and Alfie Doughty (hip) remain on the sidelines while Abdallah Sima's bad luck with injuries continues. The deadline day loan signing is nursing a groin problem.

Morgan Fox (hamstring) has returned to training today (Tuesday) but is likely to come into consideration after the international break after nearly a year battling nearly consecutive injuries.

Michael O'Neill said: "There's no real progress with any of the players (who missed the Cardiff game) with Clucas, Powell, Doughty and Fox still on their way back.

"Fox has trained today, which is a positive, but he's still a little bit away from consideration.

"Sima has a little bit of a groin problem which needs to be examined as well so none of those five we anticipate will be involved.

Have I missed the reason for this being a Wednesday Night game and not on our traditional Tuesday Evening - 15:30 here on the Gold Coast and looks like it will be a perfect evening for footy at the moment so will be a shame if weather turns tomorrow evening.

Sky red button i assume

Got a friend who’s a stoke fan but he’s kind of annoying so really don’t want us to lose this! My heart says a 2-1 win, head says a 0-0 draw... they have a few out, particularly Powell who seems to score a few for them. Hopefully we’re playing them at the right time.

It will not be a goal fest. Stoke are not famous for flamboyant attacking football away from home. 1-0 either way.

Some stats for the Stoke game:

Stoke have dropped more points from winning positions (12) than any other Championship side this season.

Stoke have only managed to win 2 away games in the Championship this season, the last one was on the 17th of August in a 3 - 1 win against Swansea.

Their only away win was against Swansea.

Reading comments across the board I am detecting a certain degree of nervousness for this one, our current form is far better than our visitors tonight so come on lets fill the ground and this board with positive vibes and as the 12thmanets get another 3pts on the board.

I do think it will be tough tonight. They've had a tough run of games and will be stinging from Cardiff's comeback. Interested to see how Critch approaches it. Some fresh legs and minds perhaps. Throw a curve ball at the Stokies?

How do you all think the difference in bloomers’ pitch size affects both our game and the visitors?

We seem to have good spells of quick passing in tight spaces.

Notice the bookies have us at over 2-1 to win with Stoke coming in just over evens, bizarre when Stoke have 4 points from last 5 league games and we have taken 12 points from our last 5 games

Reading their board they seem to be scared of anybody attacking down the flanks and reckon they do not have a left back at all. Could be a good day for Josh Bowler. 2-0 Blackpool,Yates 17 mins.

The goal scoring stats of both sides tend towards a 1-1 draw. But after Potters threw away a 3 -0 lead last Saturday, and with some of their best players missing I go 4-1 with Bowler scoring a couple.

A lot of people like me on this thread feeling its going to be a draw.

Wouldn't be a bad result at all when you factor in all of our bloody wins recently. COME ON THE POOL!

Tangerine TV mentions 4 camera viewing for tonight’s game. Does anyone know if that mean better than we’ve had so far or just the same ?

1-2. Think they’ll bounce back after the Cardiff capitulation. Hope I’m wrong, obviously

stoke not in great form by all accounts, not seem them play this year, Traditionally Stoke were always organised and and pretty physical, and a bit one trick ponyish going forward, long ball, win free kick or throw, chuck it into the box hope for the best. Are they still like that or have they changed somewhat.

if they have changed it migt explain why their supporters think they are going round in circles., newish manager (i think) lots of new younger players and expersive PL drop offs.

Im waiting for that one game where we really batter a team, because i am convinced its going to happen at least once this season.

Yes I'm aware of that!
I'm sure you are!

At the time of that udders defeat we were still finding our feet so the odd calamity like that was on the cards. But established and well fancied Stoke, going well, to collapse like they did against a poor side was a different matter all together. It was extraordinary.

Anyways, hopefully they will be feeling in a generous and devil may care mood once more tonight 👍

Got 5-2 on Paddy Power

Difficult one to call, this game, can't help feeling our bubble will burst sooner or later and this is just the sort of game we could stumble over. A point wouldn't be the end of the world, they can obviously score and concede if Saturday is anything to go by.
Here's hoping we can keep the run going, COYP
