Blackpool v Wigan Official Matchday Thread 15.04.23

the ref today was one of the worst this season. just abslutely clueless. how do the efl and FA pick these people. he has his own whistle nd a black top and shorts. do you know the rules of the game? nah - doesnt matter youre reffing a blackpool game.

some of the decsions were truly bizarre.

It was absolutely disgraceful from start to end

Certainly wasn’t, had to go for a walk in the garden for the 9 minutes injury time as my nerves wouldn’t take it anymore!
I couldn’t believe they started the corner time wasting routine on 88 minutes as we thought there’d be at least 6-7 minutes added time. Which turned to be 9 very nervous ones.

The great escape has started. And will continue without Proveda & Husband I suspect. Bold team selection today which is what we’ve been asking for & it paid off. There are many areas to improve on but hey we won 🙌

Poveda just cramp apparently and Husband has cut on his head requiring hospital visit

sounds like poveda came off with cramp not a hammy problem which is good news. A wins a win but we need to seriously up our game if we want to get out of this mess

Hope so He didn’t seem to get fully over being clattered by the dugout

must admit I was actually at the game and there was one shocker from the ref where he gave a foul against out player when their forward fell awkwardly but otherwise didn't think the ref was too bad.

we won, that’s the main thing. Wasn’t pretty, was scrappy. We got 3 points on the board and I don’t care other than to be honest. I would have taken that at 1100.

Keshi was great. Good to see Yates back. Delighted to see Grimshaw.

They looked weak going forward. The possession they had was a lot and they did not seem threatening in the slightest. Didn’t worry about them scoring - weirdly.

However, is it a little too late? I think so unfortunately. If we had got this win on Good Friday it’d be different. But 4 games left and 4 points adrift is tough.

He was atrocious 20s. You get a better view of the intricate decisions and they got everything wrong all around the pitch.

Probably not noticeable because we won. The standard is awful in this league.

Seems like you and a few others get some sick pleasure out of him having a bad game.
Not at all, I just don’t rate the guy, it’s as simple as that. He’s played well occasionally in the past but he’s not done anything really since his return and even when he was in better form I thought him too greedy.

He's not done as well as I'd hoped since his return but there again who has done well over the last 3 months since McCarthy was appointed? I'd suggest as an attacking force, no one has. And why is that? I'd suggest at least two reasons are that McCarthy was obsessed with keeping clean sheets which nullified us as an attacking force and also that he constantly chopped and changed his forward thinking players around. But even in that time Bowler has got us two goals and at least two assists. Not many others I would imagine could match that. Mcarthy hamstrung our attacking players.
