Match abandoned because a fan falls ill.
How times have changed, my dad was at the Bolton v Stoke City match in 1946 where approx 30 died. Here is an extract from the report on the disaster
“ The dead and injured were taken from the Railway End terrace, with those who had died laid along the touchline and covered in coats. A little under half an hour after the players had left the pitch, the game was restarted, with a new sawdust-lined touchline separating the players from the corpses.
How dreadful!

Yes that was bizarre but many years ago.

Wycombe away for us just a few seasons ago. Helicopter on the pitch for a fan with an emergency. Kick off heavily delayed but the game still went ahead.

Yes I was there. I was more worried about the helicopter taking off without crashing into the crowd who’d been allowed in by then. High winds. Very dubious and took several attempts.

Tin hat on here, but why are games abandoned? It's not like incidents haven't regularly occurred before out of the millions that watch sporting events every week.

In the past they were dealt with - ST John's, medical personnel, and the game went on.
Seems strange the paramedics attending cant just work on him and then take him to hospital.Times have changed with the emergency services, god help us if there is ever a disaster.

Possibly because the air ambulance is deployed making the incident more high vis and possibly damaging the pitch

If my memory is correct didn't John Cravens's dad die of a heart attack while watching his son at Blackpool? I was very young at the time,
so I may be wrong with this, but I do know John Craven died of a heart attack at a similar age.

I remember a supporter in the south stand in the play off game against Barnet, 94 ? fell down the stairs and died with head injuries while the game carried on . It was shocking but they just kept playing .

I don't really understand why they stopped the game - I presumed it must have been to get an Air Ambulance in?
The guy was taken to hospital and was treated in a first aid room - how is that different from when a player receives a bad injury (leg break etc) when the game continues?

I had a cardiac arrest in my own GP surgery last year and my practice colleagues saved my life; I was also defibrillated in the ambulance.

They kept the surgery open even though everyone was a little, ahem, shaken up….

The club doctor will be treating the person having a heart attack, so there will not be a doctor available to cover the players in case of emergency.

I was thinking about that when I heard about the abandonment.

My Dad was also at the game as a 16 year old. My grandma was frantic with worry after hearing it on the news, while my Dad was oblivious to it in the ground.

It's the thought of laying the bodies along the touchline then drawing a new line that staggers me. I suppose they'd just gone through WW2, so were far more inured to death?

I used to work with an ex copper. HE had attended the after math of the Bradford Fire disaster in 1985. he said . it was awful. having to attempt identification on charred remains. he didnt stay in the police long after that.

Remember that like it was yesterday. All the stewards etc pissing about
It happened when we played Barnet in the playoff semi in 1992. Someone collapsed and died in the South Stand. Didn't stop the game.

Different times.

Fairly similar, my dad went to the pub so was home late and my mum had heard on the radio about the tragedy so was panicking too!

Anyone know what the Scum wrote?

Journalists from The Sun newspaper will not be present for Bolton's Emirates FA Cup third-round replay with Luton Town after the publication had its media privileges suspended.

The decision was taken following a headline in Sunday's print newspaper.

If you can cut through the ads:

Fabrice Muamba was the Bolton Player who collapsed with a heart attack in 2012. HE was clinically dead for 78 minutes. Are Bolton jinxed or is it just pure coincidence.

The headline in the early edition was on the lines of Woke game called off because fan falls ill.
