Book recommendations

If you think you'll have time enough during and after your holiday to read a series of crime thrillers, then the Bernie Gunther books by Phillip Kerr are excellent. They're very dark but very laugh out loud funny at times.

But if you feel you haven't the time for a series, then any James Patterson or Lee Child (Jack Reacher series but can be read individually) book would be a very good read

Anything apart from Lee Child! Jo Nesbo is good, Child 44 also excellent. If you want something different maybe Charles Bukowski Ham on Rye. Sad and laugh out loud at the same time

Read all the Peter James ones which l enjoyed . Something along those lines .
Try anything by these authors -
Linwood Barclay, Robert Goddard, Belinda Bauer, Harlan Coben, John Grisham and not forgetting Jeffrey Archer.
My own personal favourite is Linwood Barclay but all the above are good
If you want something a bit lighter and also quite funny try Mike Gayle. In particular one called Mr Commitment.

Mick Herron Slough House books but read in order.
First book, Slow Horses, has now been made into a TV series.
Has anyone watched it?
Any good?

Read the first two of those books and I must say they really didn’t grab me.

Michael Connelly or David Baldachi books are always a good read

Currently reading "inverting the pyramid", it's a history of football tactics from its birth to the late 2000s. Quite good if you're into that kind of thing!

Really enjoyed Utopia Avenue - David Mitchell.
Reading Imperium - Robert Harris. Again, a great read and can't really go wrong with his stuff.

Tom Parker bowles ,I can’t be doing with the royals but if you like food & travel it’s great,he’s funny, interesting & a year of eating dangerously is a great book, used to like Steven king back in the day & needless things was very good although probably very dated now
if it’s non fiction you’re into then anything by Anthony bourdain but I’d personally rather watch the videos on YouTube, food, travel & the culture of all the various places he went including the political situation of them ,can be a bit depressing from time to time when he shows his inner feelings
I like Simon reeve going on his adventures
conspiracy theories are another one I read & enjoy, can’t help feeling that a good 10% are true
anyway it’s all personal choice but good if you find something from this thread that you’re interested in
have a great holiday

Jonathan Wilson is gloriously obsessive. Love his stuff

Agree about Phillip Kerr a great pity he died relatively young at 62 with bladder cancer.

Michael Connelly king of crime fiction for me. Just got back into spy thrillers and enjoying Charles Cummings. Someone also agglomeraTion Avenue which I loved.

Beneath the Trees of Eden - Tim Binding
The Last house on Needless Street - Catriona Ward
Both recent great reads 👍👍

Any travel book by Bill Bryson, particularly notes from a small island, written about his arrival in UK. He has a very funny slant on everything. Just the sort of lighthearted thing you need on holiday.
