Bowler

I would only allow him to go in January now and even then only after we had agreed a replacement of very good quality. We cannot afford to get his situation wrong

Outstanding today.... In fact on the way out I said... If I owned Blackpool then I'd probably just go "Fuck It" after today and make him a serious contract offer... However, SS is probably (in fact very likely) not as daft as me.
Posted the same on match thread. It’s worth the cost, because at season end the lad could be £10m, if he finds that final clinical element to his game.

Sure we have to try, he’s going to be worth a lot more if he keeps performing like today. Can’t see any harm in offering him a contract that might make him think, if he turns it down we sell him.

The trouble is we, like loads of teams, have a wage structure, it's a slippery slope if you break that, we could chuck the Brannagan money at Josh but then what do the other players or targets think?

Fuck being a chairman.
Decisions like that are best made after 4 or 5 pints of Stella IMHO 👍

The haze is lifted and everything just becomes so much clearer.

As someone said on another thread, if we sold him and bought a couple of quality players in with the money from his transfer, they would expect high wages. So why don’t we try and keep him by making him an offer he cannot refuse!
If he keeps on improving we can sell him for more down the line. Win win situation!

Tricky one because we wouldn’t take less than, let’s say 2 million now? If he was to extend his contract he’d probably want a minimum release clause which means he could talk to clubs in Jan if it was met.

Josh has magic in his boots and we 🧡 watching him. The Reading defenders will be having nightmares about him tonight.
We need to give him the contract that he's worth - providing he wants to stay of course.

We're only being offered a measly 2m because of this current contract. If we extended and left it a year, we surely get 8
That would involve him signing up to a longer deal, whereas all the financial cards are with him at the end of the season if he goes for free.

I was his biggest critic the first half of last season but the way he's playing now I can't remember the last time we had as good a player as this, the left back today was torn to shreds by him. Annoyingly he is now too good for us.

I don't know what happened between him and Critchbitch but the latter appear4d to have demotivated Josh.
He was unplayable today and was looking to make a pass or a shot.
I'm sure MA will develop him into a top player - sign a new contract Josh and this time next year you'll be a millionaire (in the words of Del Boy) 🧡

Had some superb moments, but they culminated in poor final balls, he either chose the wrong option or couldn't execute the cross/pass well enough. Hitting the post was unlucky but he should have had an assist or two today, that's why bigger clubs than Blackburn haven't come in for him.
bollux. No winger gets every final ball right. None. Yep, he got one or two wrong but his overall play was brilliant. His general passing was good, he knew when to take players on and when to pass. He was great and comfortably mom.

Agree.
He was easily the best player on the pitch, despite being double marked.

Yes, my thoughts exactly about Brannagan. I wondered if I was arguing the other way with Bowler, but I think his value can be a lot higher. With Brannagan he’s likely at his peak / max value, which is why I think Oxford might regret blowing so much on him.

As you rightly say, it could cause issues with other players.

It's not bollux though is it? We would have won much more comfortably if Bowlers final ball was better, as I said, he was superb at times but should have done better on several occasions and that's why since Fulham, Bournemouth and Forest won promotion they're no longer interested.

nah, just totally disagree. Like I said a couple of poor crosses but no player gets it right every time but overall his passing was excellent.

There are very few players in any league that excite you every time he gets the ball, I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t end up in the Premiership. It’s a shame we couldn’t persuade him to sign a new contract, even if he had two years left, he’d be worth a lot more than is being talked about.

I know we all want Josh to stay but if he (and his agent) doesn't want to sign contract then he will be gone sooner or later in the next 11 months. I do however think there may be a remote chance to do a deal with Josh.

The club has obviously turned down offers and no other club has yet made an offer that the club is prepared to accept. With the closure of the transfer window approaching the chances of an acceptable bid being made are reducing and, if one is made late in the window, it may get turned down if no realistic replacement can be brought it in the short timescales.

So where does this leave Josh ? On the opportunity side ,if he has a good season and continues to perform, he can look forward to a juicy signing-on fee and massive salary increase next summer. On the risk side he could have a career threatening injury and lose all the potential upside and future earnings or he could have a mediocre season (unlikely I'd say) and be scratching around for a decent contract.

For the club, if he stays, we have a player who, if he continues to perform how we know he can, will probably have the biggest individual contribution to our points tally of any of our players. That will come at a cost of the differential of whatever fee we turn down plus his wages against any fee/ wages and points contribution of any replacement.

So how could a deal could be done ? By reducing risk to both Josh and the club then maybe a compromise could be made. A deal structured with say a 3 year deal with a large (affordable) pay rise, a decent signing-on fee and a lowish release cause could work for both parties. That would substantially increase Josh's guaranteed income in case of serious injury and would still leave the window open to leave next summer. For the club we would get another year from Josh and, if the release cause is correctly valued, the additional transfer fee, over what we may get now, would cover his signing on fee and additional wages .

The risk regarding a career ending injury or significant loss of form would then largely be transferred from Josh to the club. We would also likely lose Josh at the end of the season for less that what his value could/should be.

I’am surprised Forest are still after him to be honest.
They've already spent around £85m on 12 new players this window and two as far as I can see are both wingers/wide men so would Bowler be a regular starter if he went? 🤔

Other than Bournemouth and Forest still being interested...

Desperately need him to sign a contract extension.
For a club our size to lose out on a 3-4 million windfall would be a disaster.
