Bowyer as a Manager

As the name suggests I didn’t watch one match with Bowyer in charge - probably would have watched the Play Off final but was away - out of interest what was his style of play like?

Silk purse out of sows ear, succeeded in spite of the circumstances
Never praised Oystons but kept his Council on leaving.
I would want him in a mentoring role now though. He is better than all Critchley's sidekicks

Can we stop this ridiculous bigging up of Bowyer. Sure he’s a decent guy but he’s a bang average manager!!! Been sacked numerous times, just stop it!!
Bowyer took over a side bereft of confidence after 2 consecutive relegations and got them promoted at the first time of asking, hardly a "bang average manager". In fact I would say that when we got Bowyer that was the last time I went "wow" at an appointment as he'd previously done well at Blackburn in the championship.

I want:

Graham Alexander - manager
Gregan - assistant
Mckenna - assistant
Wallace - assistant
Billie Davies - director of football.

It’s inevitable that this bill board is going to turn on the manager and back office team so at least we aren’t abusing our own legends and tarnishing the memory!!

When you say he ‘kept his Council’ (sic), he’s done two lengthy podcasts in the last month.

It is so easy for these ex players / managers to be watching a match up in the stand where they can see everything that is going on (unlike team managers who are stood at ground level and cannot possibly see everything that is going on)
And as AK says it is so easy for them to sound good when they are set next to run of the mill commentators. And that is not being disrespectful to commentators.
That is why Bowyer, Thommo, etc, sound good, but, if they were that good why aren’t they managing?
And, typical of some on this forum, because they sound good they think they would be great as our manager

Sadler should give us what we want!

Dobbie - manager
Bowyer - assistant
Thommo - assistant
Charlie - assistant
Holloway- director of football.
Sadler picks up the tab so he has every right to decide his management team.
Grayson, Appleton and McCarthy were not good appointments however.
Would fully understand his wish to continue supporting Critchley, but not sure his team of yes men in the background is helping, an experienced voice as he had in the past could though if Critchley embraced it.
Stevenage we should have targeted a win not a draw

For a number of reasons (& not saying goodbye certainly isn't one of them) I'm not a NC supporter, but I will always support the team.
I don't understand why there are repeated threads on AVFTT calling for NC to be replaced & the reasons for me saying this are:
  • He's in the 1st year of a 4 year contract
  • With our current league position he can't be said to be 'failing' (especially as we've just strengthened the squad)
  • SS selected him being fully aware that it would split the fan base
  • SS will take no notice at all of supporters opinions. The only time this may change is if our supporters turn on NC - on mass like they did with MMc & MA (not at all likely).
  • SS probably doesn't read comments about NC
  • SS will replace NC as & when he deems him to be failing
  • NC is thick skinned, supporters grumbles won't lead to him resigning
In a nutshell NC is here to stay. We are right to comment on his performance, but we may as well get used to him being here & continue to support the players.

Critchley is going nowhere, but I do like Bowyer, who did a great job winning the title with Dundee as well.
I hope Critchley is going cos we BFC are going nowhere with him in charge of tactics and team selection .. ! Of that I have no doubts

Perhaps I have missed something but I haven’t read, on this thread anyone touting Bowyer as manager. Most posters seem to be suggesting him for a mentor/ assistant role to Critchley. I also don’t think anywhere in the EFL rules it insists on managers standing on the touch line with their hands folded. Perhaps they should spend some time sitting in the stand, where they can see everything thats happening on the pitch. They may then understand why we get so upset, if they were watching the same s**t as us.😁
