Bristol Rovers v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 02.01.21

And Critchley has outfoxed the opposition almost as consistently.

Anyway, its been fun. I'll leave you to your opinions.
Well if you believe that then there's no hope for you. At least we've had a decent debate. You know me, I say what I see and don't sit on the fence.

as much as today was frustrating you have to say it was entertaining. Under grayson we were all saying we didnt like the dirge we were playing week in week out, hoof to gnands foul, free kick to the opposition, one in 15 hoofs forward gnads got a flick on, one in fifteen of those went out to feeney and one in five of those ended up on the head of Gnands

Today was not necesarily the entertainment i want, i hate to see us lose but to have had a dozen shots on goal, putting fairly serious pressure for all but 20 minutes of the game on the opposition, there was some good movement and passing which i can appreciate at one level anyway but it also gives me the hope that the next game it finally comes together, it might not in which case It will be even more frustrating. But thats football.

How is it a good team? Just 20 goals scored and 9 defeats in 20 league games! 13th in the league. I think you need to give your head a wobble.
Because we’re in transition. Change takes time. We’re not the finished product. You sound like someone who expects instant success. It doesn’t happen. Give your head a wobble!!

I never expected success under Critchley. He hadn't coached at this level or coached senior professionals before and it's shown. Also, signing league2, out of contract and reserve team players wasn't going to work in league1 and it isn't.
Pool are a poor team at the moment under a coach who is easily outwitted by opposition managers.

Yes. Although our finishing needs to improve. We’re in transition. Who do you compare us with - Barcelona?
"full of attacking flair and goals"? They can't even use wide-open spaces when they have them, far too slow in making a decision. Notice the difference between Rovers and 'pool when in the box. Rovers had players there every time, Blackpool passed around the box far too many times instead of getting players inside. But we are a team in transition and I won't look for promotion until next year, Critchley should be given the chance to build the team for next season. It will be interesting to see if Bange and Apter can make the grade.

There'll be no promotion under the clueless one. Downbeat and out of ideas after making far too many poor signings and selection / tactical errors. He isn't learning from his mistakes.

What I meant to say is that as a league 1 club I think we do have attacking flair but are poor at finishing. We’re a team in transition but are still a good team. I don’t understand the negativity from a number of fans given where we are. To me, Critchley’s doing a good job. Some people need to put things into perspective.

Somebody who could read the open spaces would be a big improvement.

I’m extremely disappointed with the result and very frustrated. The expert media analysts are reporting an entertaining game with Blackpool having all the main chances. I didn’t see it quite like that Unsure why Anderson wasn’t took off earlier than 79 minutes and why robson was brought on at 90 I really don’t see us going up or down but who even knows if the season will finish

BBC Bristol were saying we’re one of the best teams to have visited the Mem this season so far!

I don't get why you think he's doing a good job. His signings have been poor, team selection and tactics poor, and 9 defeats in 20 games. Is that good?

Critchley must be hoping the season is cancelled as it might save his job.

Well unlike from our most recent results I`ve at least got some entertainment from this debate despite some rather unnecessary insults being bandied about.

It seems some are pessimistic and despondent about our teams performances and future under the current manager while others think that we`re not doing badly and major transitions like the one our club is currently undergoing need time before reaching the levels of play and results we`re all looking for.

Examining the evidence since NC joined us, the team`s record is 11 wins 8 draws and 10 defeats which reflects that currently we are very much a mid table team which of course we currently are.Our owner`s publicly stated ambition is that we play attractive winning football and challenge for promotion. In most people`s eyes that means successful attacking free scoring football.

With our current season`s record of averaging a goal a game clearly that is not happening so far and the results to date under the current manager with an almost totally transformed squad in terms of points won if not style of play are very similar to the results achieved previously under Simon Grayson, which is rather disappointing but we are urged to give it more time. That of course is the big dilemma, how long?. Is this the time to be patient or is it a case of SS spending good money after bad.Who knows. We want the team to do well but is that allowing hope to triumph over reality.

Personally when Simon Grayson was appointed I was one of the small minority on here who said at that time that he was the wrong choice, yesterday`s man taking into account his most recent management failures at that time. When Neil Critchley was appointed there was very little to measure him by,we just knew he had excellent coaching credentials and was at a top club but he had zero experience of managing a senior football league team.

So I had an open mind but actually favoured Ian Evatt after his excellent start in football management at Barrow and his close connections to our club. It is certainly true that IE is currently struggling at Bolton but that was as tough a job as anyone could take on far harder than at our club with the very supportive owner we have here.

As for my views on the job NC has so far done here I am bound to say that I am so far a little disappointed but given time he could still prove his worth .

One thing that no-one seems to have picked up on here is that you can in fact be a very good coach but not necessarily a good manager if you don`t possess the man management and motivational skills clearly needed to be a successful manager as has been well illustrated by some football coaches in the past.

Your final para is similar to what I've been saying for months, but the tangerine spectacles brigade just won't have it, their blind faith in Critchley is baffling.

Were Rotherham and Coventry from last season and Lincoln from this season fast attacking entertaining teams or did/do they have good managers with experience and always find ways to win games?

Quite a lot of awful passing yesterday.
Too many balls were put where no one was going to get them.
A few into better areas, where our players actually were, could have made a different result. Passes going too far out on the wing,
quite a few to a place where no one was.
Got to sort that one out.

Well nigh impossible to sort out everything that's going wrong on the field under clueless Critchley.

Unlike you 50,s put up a balanced debate. You’re just rude!
I fight fire with fire. Always have and always will. I don't sit on the fence and wear tangerine spectacles. I say it how I see it...at present Critchley and his players aren't up to the task. Performances & results back that up.

So 2-1 down after 38 minutes with Kemp never in the game and Anderson having a stinker. 5 substititions after 75 minutes ! Really ! getting bored now Critch you don't seem to be able to manage the game !
reason he doesnt make subs early is he wont admit he has got his selection wrong that is the difference between a good manager and a bad one

Our league position is a fair reflection of how we have played, mediocre.
Every team above us have scored more goals, and all but Oxford have let less goals in.
To say out defence is rock solid, is simply not true, we have still let more than a goal a game in.
Can Critchley improve the players at his disposal enough to move up the league, only time will tell.

Water is far more effective

The most frustrating part of yesterday for me was the fact that we created so many good opportunities but we just can't seem to put them away. I can think of 4 really gold opportunities and we messed all of them up. Most other teams in this league will score at least 2 of them and thats the why we are where we are in the table.

Agreed and it's very frustrating. Personal opinion is this is what you get when you do not play a settled team who gets to know where each other are, instinctively.

Your last sentence (only time will tell) that’s the idea. He needs time to implement what it is he wants the team to do. It’s never a quick fix, we need to give the bloke time to sort it out or we start from scratch with potentially a poor manager and soon and on we go.

Your constant negativity is baffling, what would the definition of BFC supporter be? Not you for sure. In case you hadn’t noticed we were run into the ground by the previous regime, we are building the club back up from below bottom. We have come on leaps and bounds in a short space of time and will Continue to grow under Sadlers stewardship.

Off the field I wholeheartedly agree. On the field much less so, Critchley and his players have underwhelmed so far.

We have a poor manager (head coach) now. His decision making is atrocious as is his failure to learn from his mistakes.
