Well unlike from our most recent results I`ve at least got some entertainment from this debate despite some rather unnecessary insults being bandied about.
It seems some are pessimistic and despondent about our teams performances and future under the current manager while others think that we`re not doing badly and major transitions like the one our club is currently undergoing need time before reaching the levels of play and results we`re all looking for.
Examining the evidence since NC joined us, the team`s record is 11 wins 8 draws and 10 defeats which reflects that currently we are very much a mid table team which of course we currently are.Our owner`s publicly stated ambition is that we play attractive winning football and challenge for promotion. In most people`s eyes that means successful attacking free scoring football.
With our current season`s record of averaging a goal a game clearly that is not happening so far and the results to date under the current manager with an almost totally transformed squad in terms of points won if not style of play are very similar to the results achieved previously under Simon Grayson, which is rather disappointing but we are urged to give it more time. That of course is the big dilemma, how long?. Is this the time to be patient or is it a case of SS spending good money after bad.Who knows. We want the team to do well but is that allowing hope to triumph over reality.
Personally when Simon Grayson was appointed I was one of the small minority on here who said at that time that he was the wrong choice, yesterday`s man taking into account his most recent management failures at that time. When Neil Critchley was appointed there was very little to measure him by,we just knew he had excellent coaching credentials and was at a top club but he had zero experience of managing a senior football league team.
So I had an open mind but actually favoured Ian Evatt after his excellent start in football management at Barrow and his close connections to our club. It is certainly true that IE is currently struggling at Bolton but that was as tough a job as anyone could take on far harder than at our club with the very supportive owner we have here.
As for my views on the job NC has so far done here I am bound to say that I am so far a little disappointed but given time he could still prove his worth .
One thing that no-one seems to have picked up on here is that you can in fact be a very good coach but not necessarily a good manager if you don`t possess the man management and motivational skills clearly needed to be a successful manager as has been well illustrated by some football coaches in the past.
