Bristol Rovers v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 02.01.21

Either 2-0 to Rovers, who had 20% possession against Blackpool's shot-shy 443

OR

0-3 to Pool, with Yates, Madine and Kaikai on target for the visitors in a fantastic first half performance

Ineffective and lost in a 433. I’d give him another shot if we revert to 442, as like Yates & Madine (and Dougall, Ward, need I go on?) he was enjoying success in that formation

This will be a tricky game in my opinion. Firstly the weather, imagine the ground will be solid or at least a little frozen, also rain and snow showers are forecast during the game, not ideal for fast-flowing or even slow-flowing football. Secondly, as TT has pointed out, our record there is lousy. I too was at those games and they were abysmal. Hopefully, after the defeat on Tuesday, the team will be up to prove it was a blip.

The question is will it go ahead weather wise. Covers should help with the frost but heavy snow is forecast around kick off time. Orange ball perhaps ( if they still have them)

I feel that we have blown our two games in hand with the 0-0 draw and 1-0 defeat, but worse still, having one up front looks a bit toothless, like we were earlier this season.
When we played a run of games 4-4-2, we looked a handful for every opponent, and I cannot understand the formation change.
I think we will struggle to score if we play with a lone striker, but will win, and look good, with two up front.

Its about time we clicked going forward and bagged a few, surely its got to happen at some point.

How many games have we won comfortably... not many. Maybe today will be that day, break the Christmas curse, net some goals. Lets do it.

Not sure we have won any league game comfortably, but on the other hand apart from Ipswich no one has mullered us

Critchley still thinks we've an abundance of attacking players! Have we? We don't appear to have any goalscorers in the squad. Unfortunately, Critchley flooded the squad with forward players who have struggled for goals during their careers.

And if it is 0 for Blackpool again today then the manager needs to have a long look at what is going wrong...were not even particularly good to watch at the moment and shots on goal are way too low

Feeling pessimistic today, without CJ. I really hope I'm wrong and someone steps up and makes a difference, we have got lots of talent, they just need to attack the goal from all angles.

1 - 0 to Brizzle

Its about time a defender scored for us. 1-0 Pool with Expiteta notching the winner.

I think Kaikai only suits certain games. When teams play high tempo and close us down quickly, he is usually a bit of a passenger. If they sit back a bit or don’t play up tempo he’s dangerous. I’m thinking Burton Albion game. Just one of those things. I have to say I’d have subbed Kaikai against Shrewsbury and Hull early on.

Not making any predictions until I’ve seen the formation and line-up. 4-4-2 with Madine & Yates up front and Kai Kai benched, we can win this. 🥳

However, I expect NC will continue to labour his failed 4-3-3 system and Yates will be the one isolated up front for this match. ☹️

If he does, I’ll be mindful of my less swearing New Year resolution, expecting a tight scrappy game on a bobbly pitch. 🤨

Usual 0-0 or if Madine and Yates playing, maybe we will score 1.
Same team as Shrewsbury, no goals and probably a 1 or 2 nil defeat.

If he doesn't start Madine and Yates then it makes our job harder. Being the superstitious sort knowing we never do well away to Bristol Rovers I'm more hoping for a result than expecting one.

2 up front and we'll get the win.
If we persist with 433 it'll be 0-0, 1-1 or 0-1 to them.

I appreciate he really wants a front 3 to work, but at this moment in time we need wins, and having Yates up close alongside Madine provides us with our best chance of scoring.
